  1. Seems a lack of knowledge by Prosie mob to me.

I came over there recently at 1500ft due weather going Mackay to Townsville and had a Dash 8 doing a let down at same ETA. No problems - arranged seperation by CTAF and the Q- Link aircraft monitored my transponder position on their radar.

I would suggest that flying below an aircraft doing a let down through weather would have more potential for conflict then actually landing at the airport - Might be the real reason is point 2 regards landing fees.

If point 1 (falality) was the reason then jets would be banned - bad accident involving a jet in 1990s.

I know my points don't help but couldn't help adding them.

Only been to Prosie half a dozen times in 30 odd years of GA flying so I guess it won't worry me now either.

  2. I intend to be there and would like to put a face to some of the people from this site but with all the forum names even if I meet you I am guessing that I still will not know if you are a member of this site or just another pilot be it RA-AUS, GA or Airline.

Not a big problem but it is nice to put a face to a name and obviously this site contailns a cross section of all of the above.

  3. Does anyone know the reason for the "lift spoiler" mid way along the wing of the new 170s.

I have seen similar devices on wing roots to induce the wing root to stall before the wing tips for better handling but these ones are at least half way out along the wing.

I'm guessing they are to reduce some of the lift on the larger wing for handling on landing - but I am only guessing - thought someone here might actually know?

I had trouble strating my 230D at Wangaratta after an overnight - too cold. The problem has not appeared since as I came back north. It took over an hour with the top cowl off to get some sun to heat it up enough.

I have since purchased a 12V hair dryer which I will carry when next going that for south - should solve the problem [i hope from reading other post from cold areas]

  5. "that makes 6...."

I would like to hear the details of the 6 problems is possible. I have a J230 with no problems as yet and am about to do a 200 hourly.

Any details would be of of interest

"Jabiru will not accept that they may have had a fault in their batch of legs"

What batch of legs are you referring to [mine is 18 months old] I accept mine is a J230 and not a J170 but the legs look the same to me.

  6. I read into this as including RAA licenced pilots to enter CTA as is already the case with PPL or higher in an approved aircraft.

I don't see the dropping of Approved aircraft and communications [& transponder where necessary] and the requirement to submit a flight plan.

I would be surprised to see approval to all RAA type aircraft????????????

I also suspect there would be a CTA endorsement on the licence necessary.

  7. I am "told" it is the validity of the security check - 24 months - so to avoid running out renewing early is necessary.

I sent the application about 6 or 7 weeks before mine ran out and thus only got 22 months.

Don't shoot the messanger - and this info is not official, I have only heard it so it is hearsay at best.

If you are flying a J230 as per your previous post - I have just recently been to Temora from Townsville in a J230 - used the following route - good motels and fuel available.

Townsville, Emerald, Charleville, Cobar, Temora returning for different scenery via

    Temora, Moree, Toowomba, Rockhampton, Townsville.

Many options but this one was good.

  9. I have no more comments on this matter - I will be interested in the reply from RA Aus but the other comments I will be interested in a court result should you be charged because the situations referred to are so fanciful that I do not want to comment further and I have my own opinion as to the result of any legal proceedings.

My only comments in relation to this matter was to clear up where the authority to fly above 5000ft was in case I was missing something - that has been done.

It is not me you will have to convince but a magistrate should you be charged - best of luck - I will continue to fly RA Aus regitered aircraft legallly as I read the law
