  1. I fitted a shroud over part of the radiator and ducted it air through an in-or-to waste valve. It worked a treat, no chance of ex gas, and no need ........wait for it........wait for it..........to........wait for it.........SUIT UP, before flying.011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

    Hi Qwerty,

Could you give us some more details how you get heat from the exhaust shroud without danger of carbon monoxide poisoning? Thanks.

  2. I take your point about the difficulty with fuel leaking from the tanks as the wings are folded.

In the 'Zenith Aircraft kits 701' part of the forum on this website, micgrace wrote: "Apart from that, they fly reasonably well as claimed. (mine had R582 and no wing tanks)".

I wonder if he chose NOT to put the tanks in the wings because it is a pain to fold the wings due to the fuel leaking from the wings once they're folded.

I was also wondering, if anyone else elected to put the fuel tank somewhere else for this reason? If so, where may they be located safely??

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I read in the 'Zenith CH-701 --> folding wings option' part of the forum that it was a pain to fold the wings because of the fuel tanks in the wings. I was wondering, did you elect to put the fuel tank somewhere else or is this a later modification?

To me, the best solution is to avoid wing tanks altogether and make folding the wings a much easier exercise. Perhaps this is too simplistic?

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

  4. I am going to be doing a bit of traveling in Australia over the next 30 days from mid-December to mid-January. I will be in Darwin, Alice Springs, Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney. Are there any CH-701 owners who could show me their pride and joy in those locations?

  5. I have only ever seen information in magazine articles and on the internet about the Zenith CH-701. Because I live in an area of New Zealand where there appears to be no Zenith owners and/or builders in the vicinity I have not yet ever seen one "in the flesh" ...let alone flown in one! 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

I am interested in either building or -if the price is right- buying a STOL aircraft either the Zenith CH-701 or a similar aircraft. I am looking at different options but, because of hangar costs I am now considering the folding wing options on this plane (or similar).

I have read quite a bit about this plane and the things I like about it are:

There are more than 1,000 CH-701s flying in different parts of the world

    It is a high wing plane;

    It has tricycle undercarriage

    Its good STOL capabilities

Appears to be a robust design

    Short landing roll

    Short take off roll

    All aluminium construction

It has a 20+ year history with a number of improvements carried out during this time

It has a steep climb angle

Seems to be pretty good for cross wind landings

There seems to be a folding wing option to help avoid hangarage costs

    Low stall speed

    Reasonable VNE

    Has good landing gear

Is able to land on unprepared strips

Does anyone have good experience with one? I would be very interested to know.

  6. I am interested in either building or -if the price is right- buying a STOL aircraft similar to the Zenith CH-701. I am looking at different options but, because of hangar costs I am now looking at the folding wing options on this plane (or similar).

I understand that folding wings can be retro-fitted as well.

One question which I would like answered by anyone who has one: how long does the whole folding process take?

A similar (looking) aircraft, the Eurofox, claims that the wing folding takes 10 minutes for one person. See:EuroFox sport planes, light sport aircraft, sportplanes.

Would the CH-701's fold time take a similar length of time:hug:?

  7. Hi everyone at this very interesting forum.

I am Hank, an Australian presently living in New Zealand. After having lived many years very close to Schofields aerodrome in Sydney and watching many people fly every weekend, I have always wished to learn to fly myself.

Additionally, I am interested in constructing my own plane.

It's great to be here and you'll 'see' some more of me in the forums in the future.

    Best wishes,

    Hank.
