  1. Jeez, you guys - looks like time to ramp up modelling skills so I can keep up. Last serious drawing for me was 2D AUTOCAD last century! And you don't want to know how long ago IGDS was. Great concept, good idea with the crown and pinion.
  2. And came across this while surfing: Ring Around the Tail Boom - Sustainable Skies Weight of the hub and vibration into the boom can't be too much of an issue if these are able to be installed on gliders?
  3. Thanks, mnewbury and cscotthendry. Good tip about building OR flying. Matches my experience - no boating while building the boats and still no "flying" while finishing the hovercraft. And always good to get opinions on what is available. I hadn't run across the Nynja before - it looks a remarkably good plane for the dough.
  4. Tractor does make a lot of sense. Probably the reason why so many are designed and built! But doing something because one wants it done that way also has a place. Darkpilot's design idea does solve a couple of problems - vibration coupling, getting away from twin booms, and additional boom loading. There is a lot to be said for unobstructed view, and shape. Personally I'd be happy with a Sadler Vampire or Winton Grasshopper (showing my age, here).
  5. Deskpilot, neat design. Yes it would need a top bearing or one could go with three bearings at 120 degrees. Four bearings would probably be easier to center and align. Did you have anything put together to take thrust and provide axial location? Remarkably similar to the bearing setup that held our previous washing machine tub in place and its belt drive. The current one is direct drive and havn't had to take it apart yet.
  6. Hi, previously had my PPL (got to Night VMC, constant speed and retractable) and glider many years ago now, but let them lapse due to the usual - house/marriage/children/work/expense. Now retired and have just had first lesson on my way to a Recreational Pilot Certificate! Ultimately I'd like to build a plane, but first steps ...
