  1. Damn rules are funny things arn't they..... I have never been able to figure out why you need a commercial licence to take a photographer up to take a few snappies if your getting paid, but you only need a PPl to let people jump out of your aircraft?????

  2. I think that healthy debate is good, as long as a product is not just knocked because of a bias towards another which may be unjustified. By all means qualify your statements and back it up with facts, don't just knock over the tall poppies.

Its a good thing we all have different tastes as we would be waiting 10 years for a Jabiru hey..............

  3. Just an interesting observation, with all the replies to this post, I read pretty good support for gary Morgan, and rightly so, he makes a very fine aircraft indeed. The interesting thing here is that when a member asks for advice from the forum on the purchase of a Jabiru, all manner of negatives come through. Gary uses both Jabiru and Rotax engines in his aircraft but alas no negatives in relation to the reliability of his aircraft. I ask myself, why is it so?.... Is it that some people just knock the Jabiru engine when installed in a Jabiru aircraft or by the time Gary is producing the aircraft numbers that Jabiru are will he be subjected to the same criticisms. (as Jabiru rarely are criticised for their airframes).

Not being critical of anyone here, just throwing something out for thought.i_dunno

  4. Thanks geoff, was having a good look at these units on the web, sound like they would do the job at a hell of a lot less than JPI, I take it you would endorse the unit based on your experience. Did you find accuracy an issue?

  5. Yep, when I used to fly IFR everywhere things were simpler in lots of respects, very little issue of see and avoid , there was always someone on the other end of the radio to advise of possible conflicting traffic while climbing, descending or en route. The use of a device that will advise of traffic in close proximity and alert if they become a risk (on most occasions) is a little like putting a seat belt on when ever you get in a car, they may not always work, but will increase your chance of survivabilty. Your'e a long time dead so why not use every avenue available to increase situational awarness. They may not work all the time but they may just alert you to an aircraft that may be descending onto your tailplane that otherwise you would not have a hope in hell of seeing, no matter how vigilent you are with see and avoid.

  6. Thanks Russ, I have read on a few places where there have been some problems with fine strands from filters etc causing the turbine to not function properly in the Fuel Mizer, have not heard of the same issues with the JPI. Do they come with another filter or do you rely on the in line filter of the aircraft?

  7. All very good points. One of the features that I am looking for is to know exactly what fuel burn I am having at various power settings. As I have an anologue guage for RPM, just a slight movement on the throttle setting can mean that I have moved the needle on the jet to go from burning 25l/hr to towards 35l/hr.

Another advantage as I see it is, when I am flying at A095, I have full throttle to maintain 2850RPM. It will be nice to know that the pressure compensating carb is doing its job. If I see that I am burning around the 25l/hr mark I know that I am getting sufficient cooling from the fuel/air ratio. (I will happily be corrected if this logic does not stack up).

  8. I suppose I will have to spend the extra $$$$ on a JPI FS450. Again if there are any experiences good or bad I would like to here them.

I considered going for the marine unit which by all accounts is probably identical however, call it what you like but "there's boats and there's planes".

  9. I am considering purchasing a Zaon traffic alert, would be interested to hear of any ones comments on these. The XRX is a 3 times the price of the MRX, is it 3 times as good?

Am I asking the obviuos here but will these systems only pick up another aircraft which has their transponder on?

  10. Sometimes the obvious is right under your nose... I tried the original hands free kit that iphone provides with the phone, the ear pieces fit very nicely while wearing your headset and don't impair the audio quality of the headset. The mic sits snugly against the boom mic of the headset. The quality of received phone calls is great and am told that the other party can hear very clearly. Obviously with local radio chatter you would not be on the phone but for enroute phone coms I think it will work fine.....

  11. Seats

I went to Bunnings and bought two padded seat covers that are designed for out door settings. They fit like a glove on Jab seats and provide the extra padding needed. They look good and are priced at about $15 each from memory.keen.gif.9802fd8e381488e125cd8e26767cabb8.gif

  12. Goeff,

I have also had problems starting my J230 on cold mornings. I have not done any of the mods. I find that when I hook up the jumper leads it starts in 1/2 a revolution. I have a 50 amp Anderson plug which I intended to hook up so that I could use a jumper pack without removing the cowl and so forth. Do you believe that the 50 amp plug is sufficient?

    Regards

    Danny
