Anyone heard any information about the SAAA MPC that's going to be run out there the couple days before? I've registered & paid, but haven't got any info about when, where, who, etc etc.. I'll put a call into the SAAA tomorrow chasing it up but figured I'd ask here first...

Do you have a schedule for the seminars as yet? Some sound very interesting but won't be able to make the entire event.

A couple of years ago I got my Rec Flying name - Neil_S - printed on a plain white T-shirt for exactly the purpose of hooking up with others from here at Fly-Ins.A lot of places will do printing like that for you. Cheap and simple (like me!)

The current CASA Safety Seminar talks about communication and CAR 166. Worth going to one if you get the chance. Then what is legal/illegal becomes clearer, along with what is mandatory and what is recommended.

The financial situation should be looking good soon. I see that they are going to charge $50 per day for the upcoming fly in. I won't be there. I went to the last one at Narromine and wasn't impressed and at a 30% increase they can do without me.

abeam only works if you've specified a track of say tracking from xyz to abc 10 miles east at 3000 time one five .. It's an orientation thing. You want it simple but with clarity.. Perhaps over (suburb) (when) at 3,000. tracking for (someplace well known.). Nev

Derek,My understanding is if not RAA, then you will need an AROC at minimum to use a radio.

 

I am an AROC instructor and I still personally think it’s just stupid not to make a 6 second radio call to let whomever might be there know you are there.

 

I just don’t get why anyone would want to sit in an ivory castle and stamp their feet like a spoilt child complaining about making calls. Simply ridiculous!!

When I was in my late 40's I asked the local flying instructor about lessons. Kindly response was, 'what does a girlie your age want to learn to fly for?'. A few months later I moved for work. Flying myself home about 18 months later he asked me why I hadn't told him I was serious about learning to fly. And I have too many stories of refuellers and the like asking me if it will be long before the pilot gets back to the plane. Still so many have helped me on my flying journey that I can't take any/too many negatives from these type of comments. If you want to learn to fly just do it!

We've planned Shepp a few times. But didn't know about lunches? Thought it was breakfast? And even at 10 it's proved too hard to make it from Moorabbin in winter. Landing fees haven't been what's stopped us.

Rosemarie age shouldn't be a barrier.

When I was learning at Swan Hill a decade ago lots of the RAA students would come and stay for 2 weeks. They seemed to achieve a lot given the ability to fly several times a day for a fortnight. The consistency and currency really pushed them along. If I could have taken the time away to do it like that I probably would have. I did most of my dual navs (PPL) with MMFS doing an outback trip over Easter. The flying every day, alternating PIC and PAX with another student really helped reinforce everything for me.
