  1. My last lesson after takeoff instead of switching off the fuel pump I pressed the switch adjacent to it, turning the landing light on. My instructor waited until we levelled off before advising of my error. I was horrified! Although not something that caused any issue, I still can't believe it. With only 13 hours it certainly has put the willys up me - what if it was something more significant. I'm certain to be more careful next time. Nev
  2. I read somewhere to check for cows in your fuel.... Colour, Odour, Water, Sediment.
  3. Agree with most posts above, the absence of feel I believe can make it more difficult in flight sim than the real thing. Stalling lesson far easier in the real world. I've purchased a Carendo cherokee and the Hervey Bay airport (my training airfield) by Orbx to practise with and I believe that it is helpful for remembering checks, procedures (in particular circuits). The airport is frighteningly realistic - right down to wheelie bins and airconditioning units on airport hangers! Being only able to fly once every fortnight I also found it beneficial to learn the position of aircraft switches and pre take off procedures through the sim. (although my wife rolls her eyes everytime I announce CLEAR PROP from the computer room. Nev
  4. Hi Biggles As a student myself, I've just purchased an Altronic C9073 (the bendy one). Have only had one hours use but found it quite good so far, slightly more comfortable and quieter than the very very used David Clarke flying school set I've been using. Given my instructor uses a C9070, I figured the Altronic would be more than adequate whilst training. Down the track I might get an ANR and keep the Altronic as a passenger/spare. But for now, I'll put the extra investment into my flight training. Good luck finding the right set for you. Keep us posted on what you decide. Nev
  5. Hi Splitty Might be Skidmark1975 you've seen, another forum member (whom I'm yet to meet) doing training in KEP also. I'll be sure to look out for you and say g'day when I next have a mid week lesson. Cheers Nev
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome folks. Sorry Farri, but I don't think I'm brave enough for the openness the drifter. However, there's a local school with a tecnam that I always see doing circuits. Despite the costs I've set my sights on a ppl for now, although the thought of training in something only a handful of years old certainly is appealing.....
  7. Just thought I'd say Hi. I'm 33 and from Maryborough Qld and will soon commencing ppl training with ADFA in Hervey Bay. I've not flown before with exception of a TIF in a Cessna 172. Hoping to get plenty of tips and info from the forums to assist in my upcoming challenges. Cheers Nev
