Hi,

I just wanted to introduce myself as a new member to this forum.

The reason for joining is I have just bought a quarter share in a Zenair CH 701 based at Old Sarum,

near Salisbury in the UK.

I am looking to having many happy hours cruising low and slow !

Welcome Paul,

There are really good people here with a wealth of knowledge to share. I'm envious of your ownership, they're nice aircraft I had a sit in one at Natfly this year. Fire away with the questions and you'll get lots of answers.

098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif Paul it is good to see a UK pilot on this forum, looking forward to some of your contributions.

Great to see a Salisbury Plane flying over the Salisbury Plains 109_groan.gif.66f71fc85b2fabe1695703d67c904c24.gif.

Sorry Paul I have that weird Guernsey sense of humour and flying upside down in Australia it goes to my head a bit.

Hi Paul, 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif

Cool! Zenair 701s are nice planes. How's the flying down your way? My brother lives near Holcombe down in your neck of the woods, and we have been to the Henstridge Fly-In and Classic Car show the last couple of years when I have been on holiday in the UK. Fun event. We drove rather than flew as he is into cars, and my Aus RA licence is not valid in the UK....

Cheers

Neil

Hi Alan,

Four years ago we retired from sail cruising after 35 years, and Guernsey was always our favourite destination. Do you ever go back?

It is a great place for me to fly into and the controllers at Guernsey are very helpful.

Hi Frank,

I have just joined this 701 syndicate, four members, and eagerly awaiting to be checked out!!

If only the weather would settle down!

How many hours did you notch up in the 701?

Hi Neil,

Holcombe is not far along the coast from me as we live in Weymouth. We could probably see it on a very clear day. Next time you are there find the small private grass strip at Branscombe just east of Holcombe by about 17 miles and just inland. There are a couple of guys doing excellent aircraft restoration work there. The strip has an annual fly in plus car show which we sadly missed this year. see http://www.branscombeairfield.co.uk/index.htm

Sadly the strip is surrounded by Nimbys who restrict air movements so it is nearly impossible to fly there unless for the big day , usually June.July.

Hi Paul, Came to Australia in 1970 and have been back to Guernsey four times since the last visit being three years ago.

I was the founder member of the Guernsey Aero Club in its present form, check the history on the Aero Clubs web site.

I used to also be heavily into boating including building them. It's good to meet somebody with similar interests.

Not sure if I will ever get back again (now a 72 year old re-cycled teenager ).

Welcome to the forums Paul,

I hail from Wimbledon and even used to play a bit of tennis there.

It was mainly in the local park as a kid, but it still counts.

Have flown into Guernsey a few times fom Shoreham and Biggin Hill but that seems a lifetime ago, and probably is.

Encourage some of your fellow aviator mates to get on this site as they'll have a lot of fun and can learn a lot.

Wot's more they won't even be sent a bill. How goods that!001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif

Keep your posts coming, even if it's only to whinge about the weather. Then I can phone my Mun and tell her when to take her washing off the line.

Cheers for now.

Hi Planey,

Nice to hear from you. For a minute I thought you were from Padstow in Cornwall and then saw NSW, so presume you now live in Oz?

I certainly will encourage other flyers to use this site.

All the best

Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul.

No, definately not Padstow Cornwall, though I was once engaged to a beauty who was awarded the title of "Miss Looe" in beauty pagents three yrs running. Possibly an award of convenience, to coin a phrase.

Presumeably you have to be careful not to stray into airspace around St Maugan unannounced, which now seems to have jet and turbo-prop passenger services.

Last time I was there, they had BAC Lightnings operating from the field, which were sent up to do live target shooting off the coast. Now i'm showing my age.
