Site Update - extended Likes - UPDATED

The "Like" system on the site previously just had a link in each post that enabled a user to "Like" a post made by another user but that doesn't help to say why the user liked it.

 

We then installed a new Like System that we purchased from a software developer however I discovered many issues with it and advised the developer who has now released a fixed version that is now installed on the site. Now ALL your historic Likes are displayed in your settings...previously left out due to a bug.

 

So the Like System functionality has now been extended to provide a more broader range of "Likes" that gives some more meaning to the reason of why you may have liked a post.

 

NOTE: This system provides a way to broaden the meanings of your Likes that will provide a poster with more detail then simply saying "Like" as ALL these Likes are positive encouragement to those that create great and interesting posts for everyone.

 

In the bottom right of every post you will now see a group of icons that you can click to add a "Like" to the post:

 

 

If you hover your mouse over each of the icons, a popup box will show what type of "Like" each one is:

 

 

On a User's Profile Page you can also see a breakdown on the different "Likes" they have received and given:

 

 

There are other areas where the "Likes" are incorporated into the site like your "Alerts" will alert you to individual "Likes" that other users have given your posts and a full list of all the "Likes" that you have been received and given are shown in your settings pages.

 

All "Likes" are like users giving your posts small positive comments and we hope you will enjoy seeing them on your posts, and naturally if you feel another User's post warrants a specific type of "Like", maybe because their post is funny or helpful or informative, then please click on the relevant Like Icon and encourage them to post more of the same. We have the functionality to add more Likes with other descriptive terms should you require them...simply ask if you do.

You will also see on the Thread Listings page in any of the forums any threads that have had 3 or more Likes attributed to the Opening Post of the Thread.

 

This is a great enhancement to the site and will allow, down the track, to have competitions and so on for say Posts with the most "Funny" Likes or say Posts that other users have liked the most as "Helpful" etc. It is interesting that this same enhancement is used on very large sites like Sony etc so I hope it brings an extra dimension to the community interaction of the site.
