kgwilson Posted June 26, 2014 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Yes the Spitfires was the glamour machine but the Hurricane outnumbered the Spitfire 2 to 1 in the Battle of Britain, shot down enemy aircraft by a 3 to 2 margin & on an average morning 63% were serviceable compared to 37% of Spitfires. There have been many comparisons made since 1940 but it seems that in terms of which was best the jury is forever out.
