AntekInCanberra Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Greetings, I am planning to depart shortly for a flying trip AROUND AUSTRALIA (that would include overflying Cape Byron (E) - Cape York (N) - Steep Point (W) and South Point (S)). Around 60 hours of flying over 4 to 5 weeks in a Cessna 182 (or a similar aircraft). If you are interested in joining me, please, send me a message. Cheers, ANTEK 1
skippydiesel Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) Hi AntekinCanberra, I have fantasised about such a trip for years. Not sure from your post, if you are looking for Pax and / or other aircraft to join your safari??? I have my own aircraft, so would be "flying in company". From where and when do you plan on departing? Do you plan a clockwise/anti clockwise rout ?😈 Edited June 25 by skippydiesel 2
AntekInCanberra Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 Someone who would assist me on this longgggggggish trip 🙂 Ability to help flying the plane would be appreciated ....
AntekInCanberra Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 Start in Canberra in late July 2025 / finishing in Canberra 4-8 weeks later. Moving anticlockwise ....
skippydiesel Posted June 25 Posted June 25 So northerly direction from Canberra - how does that fit the prevailing winter wind direction? I guess it will depend on the prevalence/location of the low/high pressure systems at that time and luck😈.
AntekInCanberra Posted Wednesday at 02:02 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 02:02 AM New ETD (from Canberra) - the first week of August ..... Still looking for someone to join me .... A
facthunter Posted Wednesday at 05:45 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:45 AM Wet or Dry season is what matters on such a trip. Over 4-8 weeks a forecast won't be available. You might have to stay somewhere if it turns pear shaped, weather wise. Could be unsettled in the Southern Part in Spring and some icing getting back to CBR. Be a full bottle with your weather information. Fuel in remote areas may be expensive. I wouldn't fly over the Gulf Just after Cape York and I'd consider being near roads when POSSIBLE & CARRY WATER. and 2 radios. Nev 2
AntekInCanberra Posted Wednesday at 06:46 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 06:46 AM Good advice - thank you. I won't have HF but a Garmin inReach should be helpful. If you are "collecting" flying hours: I would pay half of the cost of the C182 hire, but you could be a PIC for the whole flight. I will take over only when required to go IMC (unless you have IR)....
facthunter Posted Wednesday at 06:52 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:52 AM Pretty good choice of Aircraft. Nev
