Guest imflyer2
My pal bought a J230 and I'm pretty involved in the maintenence. Neither of us have experience with wood props so i thought I'd ask the "experienced" out there a few questions. We have the plane under a shade hanger but it is exposed on all sides. Do you recommend a cover for the prop? Any tips on maintenence or things I should watch out for would be appreciated. Jess
djpacro
Specific to Sensenich props but also some general stuff on page 4. Note the heading on that page is "Continued Airworthiness Requirements" - I'd ask the manufacturer of your prop for similar guidance.
facthunter
Props/Jabiru. Not an expert here, but keeping the bolts tensioned when the moisture content in the hub changes, seem to be a high priority. I think the drive flange getting heated-up on long flights could be a factor that doesn't seem to be given the importance that it should.. Nev.. facthunter
More... Oh and I forgot the obvious.. don't fly in rain. If you inadvertantly end up there, reduce your revs to minimum for safe flight and get out of it. This seems to be the biggest complaint . Upside, wooden props are the best at handling torsional vibration..Nev

Modest Pilot
Keep the prop horizontal not vertical when not in use. Stops moisture build up in one blade. Cover doesn’t hurt outside probably over kill in the hanger. Read the bursts on the Sensenich prop site.
