Mystery yellow Kadina plane

Hi Guys,

Just last week I went on a road trip, Adel-Melb and back, I'm fairly certain that I was on the Western Hwy on the SE side of the town, when a saw a zippy little yellow aircraft.

I thought I was seeing things and didn't say anything because, quite frankly, my friends and family have had enough of listening to me spotting aircraft. Until they were all wowed by it too and we were all watching it

Then, four days later on the way back to Adelaide. Behold, there is the little yellow plane taking off, a few paddocks to my left beyond some trees.

As you can see, it's been a week and I'm still intrigued. Part of the fascination is the look of the plane and partly the lifestyle of someone who clearly takes their pride-and-joy up for a spin daily  or perhaps they are training for an event? or learning?

Are you the pilot? and could I please see some pictures of the plane? what type of plane is it?

I wasn't sure what you meant, but after goggling some images, I'd have to say; yeah, some of them are pretty close to what I saw. Though I was driving so it was difficult to get details.

Back before they had GPS guidance systems, you'd be the person with a flag and mark out where there next run is.... it was pretty heart beating moments! not to mention all the spray drift you get!!040_nerd.gif.a6a4f823734c8b20ed33654968aaa347.gif

You stand there with a Flag and wait until you think they've line you up and then count out the next one... sometime you'd have to duck if you weren't quick enough!!

Thankfully you don't have to do that anymore now!

I will see If I can find some pictures of some of them around here now... In summer that's all you hear... spray plane after spray plane... especially if the ground is wet!

Yellow plane

Could this be what you saw?

They really do like buzzing around trees... and have a habit of jumping out from behind them, like startled rabbits... and don't they move quick!!!!

Redair.

As you can see, it's a fairly risky sort of a job. My Dad has had to rescue two spray aircraft accidents, one an aeroplane who collected some power lines, and crashed. And a Helicopter, who collected the power lines to I think. And obviously crashed. Both pilots were Ok, only badly bruised etc...

Cheers guys,

The pictures Redair had, look very much like it but it was so quick zipping across the road that I couldn't see whether it had the struts along the bottom of the wings for crop dusting. I'm supposing it did though

Great video Tomo, never seen them actually crop dusting

At first I thought it was an oversize RC plane in a field! then it came closer and I could see someone in it. Great flying by the pilot though, very low and precise, great to watch

Yes they are good fun to watch, I can stand and watch them spray a whole paddock and not get bored! The older Radial spray planes are a bit boring though... Nice noise, but real slow compared to the Air Tractor turbo Prop!

Actually a spray plane just flew over head the house as I type! Our house is kinda a bit of a land mark for them, due to its size! and shape from the air.

It's pretty cool. The closest I've ever lived to the country/farming was between Tyabb and Tooradin airfields in VIC.

So farming/tractor planes, and the tail wheel craze are new to me  Definitely see the appeal and can't wait to start training in cubcrafters and aerobatics. ie low level, tailwheel and aerobatics endorsements.. A long way to go yet 025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif

Ok, Ok... Here is a the photo you've all been waiting for! I guess it's just a bit of a unique roof pattern! Not a really good one, but you get the idea! for some reason or other the bottom of the photo went all weird on me, so had to crop it off!

Very impressive Tomo - Thanks for sharing it with us:thumb_up:

Thanks Dexter, It's been a work in progress for something like 10yrs! mainly because we've built most of it ourselves, so only little bits get done each weekend! or as time any money permit...

Just ask Maj Millard, He saw a little bit of it! 021_nod.gif.30c66a33e1ed960b5b5d3fc7b345b58d.gif
