12 092300 is 0900 local. There isn't a specific time for the city but, given the route, I would guess earlier rather than later. Might depend on how long it will take to find one that will start ;-)

Don't quote me on this, but we are taking photos of the "Gov. Bowen" re-enactment at the Botanical Gardens. The Fly Over is supposed to be towards the end of that but before the march to St Johns Cathedral. Probably around 1000 to 1015 local. Sorry I can't be any more specific, they keep us in the dark also!

I walked out of the office I work in Milton at about 9:40... looked out over the river and just by chance - F111 (didn't register at first, then the sound came and I figured it out lol).

Was banking left over the River at Coro Drv Milton inbound to City - hooking along as well (I suppose thats what jets do though)...

Yeah hadj a great view from work here at east brisbane. Heard on ATC that they were inbound from amity and just as I got outside they came almost overhead. Couldn't actually see the dump and burn over southbank but still worth it nonetheless

Here's some F111 stuff for you. A double dump n burn at night, one during the handling demo where he actually let loose about three times.

Now unbelievably I had an F111 maintenance guy deny this at an airshow recently. I was in the Air Force when the F111s came along, and they often shared the ramp with our Mirages at Darwin. There was a bit more to look at than on the Mirages, so we would hang around them a bit, when we could as they were sort of 'secret' back then, even to us. When they had the power on, there used to be a silvery looking half globe right up top at the rear of the fin. With power on it used to sort of smoke, for want of a better description.

The story I got was that it was and automatic ifrared missile detector. When it detected an incoming missile fired at the aircraft, fuel would automatically be jettesioned and burnt which provided a 'false' heat source for the missle, in lue of the aircraft. It was all automatic, and a light would alluminate on the panel to let the pilot know the system had operated. Now as i say the IR globe is no longer on the tails, but we still have the dump system which provides us with the great 'dump and burn' capability.

We used to always be amazed at how long the F111s would take from start-up to takeoff.

A Mirage once started is usually in the air in under 10 minutes or so. The F111s would line up at Darwin, and 20 minutes later would still be sitting there exercising flight controls !...They were also the first military fighter to be fitted with Turbofan engines, which is why they didn't end up on carriers as intended. They found the turbofans were too slow at spooling up for power.........................................................................024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

That's what i was told back then, I would like it confirmed also. I do remember the 'smoking' half sphere up on the fin, even though it was the 70s', they are not fitted now, and the area has just been covered over. Why else would they locate a pump-powered fuel jetterson outlet between two jet exhausts ?. Most military jets don't even have fuel jetteson capability......Yes the 'Miracle' was a great looking jet, especially the dual which was faster than the single by the way with the same engine. ........024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

HI Major, i never heard of the.Missile detector (doesnt mean it didnt happen). The Fuel dump Toggle switch is Safety wired with copper lockwire. Because they hold around Approx 32 000 LBS of fuel just with internal tanks. It was designed purely to dump fuel in an emergency. The story i was told when doing my F111, fuel system course, was that the dump and burn came about purely by accident when a US aircraft dump fuel when he was in afterburner. And the fuel ignited . The fin tank is a vent tank.
