Where to park at Broken Hill

Hi, it's me again with yet another question about Broken Hill. To those who have parked their aircraft there overnight, which apron can you park on (out of the three shown in ERSA)?

I just called the Broken Hill council and Kate had no idea, there was no one out at the airport and Geoff didn't answer his mobile.

I'm making the assumption that I can park over by the hangars where the other light aircraft are parked (looking on Google Maps) which is just off taxiway Bravo.

I'm on the eve of embarking on my first long cross country flight since gaining my license and have a lot of things running through my mind and this is one which I hadn't thought of earlier.

Cheers

Michael.

gidday Mikey,

Haven't been to Broken Hill for a while now (copped a really rude and unfriendly fuel guy so I flight plan accordingly) but last time I was there there are plenty of tie downs east of the terminal in front of the hangars. have a good trip

THe local aero club will make you very welcome. Jimmy Nesbit is CFI. nice bloke. I was there in Oct last year and will be again in about 4 weeks. The local "Flying Pardre" has a hanger and for a small donation you can hanger your plane.

Gidday Mikey, we may see you there as we have 2 182's leaving Wang at about 10 to head to Broken hill via a lunch stop at Pooncarie.

We will be at the races and leave the hill on Monday to come home. Are you going to the races ?

Have fun at the races, the town was a buzz with excitement about the races when I was there during the week, wish I could have stayed until the weekend!

Ok, here is a quick report on the Broken Hill trip.

Well, out of the Jab230 and into a Cessna 182 for a few days. Man does the 182 seem big now but oh so stable and all the landings were great. I think the Jab has helped me heaps in that area.

We departed Friday about 11.30 which was 2 hours later than I wanted to but 2 aircraft and 8 guys couldn't seem to get organised- doesn't matter, at least we were not at work.

Because we were max weight we headed to Hay for a fuel stop to then get us to BHI. Ian the gentleman who came and refuelled us was fantastic and gave us all a lift into town for a pub meal and then dropped us back to the airfield later. So if you need to purchase a vehicle in Hay area, make sure you see Ian at Lugsdin Toyota--thanks Ian.

Back in the A/C and off to BHI. Now what was different this year ? Not very rough at all and green with water lying around the place en-route. It was beautifull to see. An uneventfull flight but quite picturesque. Yeh I should add some pics but the camera was in the bottom bag in the rear-damn it.

Friday night was spent in various watering holes and playing two-up at the Musicians club- what a great experience with a room full of people yelling to the spinner- head em up or tail em up and money in large amounts changing hands with every spin. I usually go OK but not this year.

There were 140 Danish students staying at the Palace Hotel (Priscilla queen of the desert fame) where we had a few ales and found that they were creating some land art that can only be seen from the air ( sounds a waste to me).

I am rambling here so lets wrap it-- the races were fantastic and on the Sunday everyone goes to Silverton which is about 30k to the north west for what is called recovery day.

We departed Monday morning and did a low level run to the Menindee lakes which are filling rapidly- I am so happy for the locals having water in there lake again. Hang on, back one step-- after taking off we flew over the Danes land art but couldn't see anything so then went to Menindee

The rest of the flight home was uneventful with us all looking and planning for next year.

I will post a few pics from the guys when I can.
