  14. Hello All, Just a thank you to all who made the effort to come. It was a stunningly successful weekend. The Friday night social get together in the "Padre's Hangar" was great, 80 kg of fresh yabbies were consumed along with various camp oven stews and salads and damper, all washed down with a very modest quantity of ales, wine, and soft drinks. Saturday saw a display of old and new aircraft , including the DHA3, Drover, used by the Australian Aerial Medical Services, forerunner to the RFDS. The Loacal RFDS base was also thrown open to the public and was a great attraction with over 1500 people from town taking advantage of this. Saturday evening at the iconic Silverton Hotel was again brilliant with a superb buffet dinner followed by and auction raising over $7400 for the RFDS. Our guest speaker, Capt David Evans ,(check Capt on QF32) had everyone spell bound and thanks to David for making the effort. we had 84 aircraft fly from all over Aus to make the event. The longest flight was from PNG ,a great effort. Unfortunately weather prevented 5 from overseas (TAS) coming. Again thanks to all who made this a great 75th Anniversary. Bruce Nevill Secretary Aero Club of Broken Hill.

  22. THE AERO CLUB OF BROKEN HILL 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION 18TH – 20TH OCTOBER 2013 With The Royal Flying Doctor Service, who celebrate their 85th Anniversary this year Greetings to all aviation enthusiasts, Australia wide, past and present club members. Don’t miss this event! Mark in your diary, calendar or electronic device the above dates. We are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of The Aero Club of Broken Hill which was officially incorporated on the 15th July 1938. A great program has been planned for all to enjoy. We are pleased to also mark the 85th Anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctor Service at this event. A “Fly-In” has been scheduled for the weekend of the 18th to 20th October 2013. We aim to provide avid aviators from all over Australia with a unique outback cultural experience with a very distinct country aviation theme. Friday the 18th will see a hangar get together to acquaint with old and new friends over a feast of fresh yabbies, camp oven stews, damper and a quiet (noisy!) beer. Saturday the 19th October will showcase a static display of modern and vintage aircraft and for the thrill seekers among us, an “Extra 300” aerobatics aeroplane will be on field to take those who desire for the ride of their life. The display of Aircraft on Saturday will consist of a vintage “Drover” one of the first aircraft used by the Australian Aerial Medical Service, forerunner to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. It is fitting then, that our display will be located at the Royal Flying Doctor Service hangar at Broken Hill where you will be able to view demonstrations of this vital Outback service in action and tour the base and Visitor Centre. Also on display will be Vintage Aircraft from the Vintage Aircraft Society of Australia, Warbirds, modern Ultra-Lights, Light Sport and Light Aircraft together with modern Corporate Aircraft. In keeping with our outback location we have endeavoured to incorporate some legendary and iconic Australian places of interest. A planned unique outback adventure will follow the “Fly-In” on Saturday with a late afternoon bus trip to the outback town of Silverton, where the filming of “Mad Max” took place. The “Old Gaol” and “School House” museums will be privately opened for our friends and visitors, followed by a short walk to the most renowned and filmed hotel in Australia, the iconic “Silverton Hotel” where a Special buffet dinner of “gargantuan” proportions will be served with some complimentary wines. Other drinks may be purchased at the bar. The highlight of the evening will be our guest speaker, an exciting addition to our weekend. Captain David Evans, Qantas A380 check and training Captain will present on his unique experience and the crucial role teamwork played in the safe recovery of a crippled Qantas A380. The aircraft suffered a catastrophic uncontained engine explosion soon after take-off from Singapore on 4th November 2010. Funds raised from the Silent Auction on that night will be donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. For those who wish to flyin registration will be essential. Package highlights include: Package 1 ALL INCLUSIVE WEEKEND REGISTRATION per person $180.00 (Includes: Entire weekend bus transfers to and from accommodation/Airport, Bus Transfers to and from Silverton, ALL meals for Friday Evening - Hanger Meal, Saturday -Breakfast, Lunch and Gourmet Buffet Dinner (complementary glass of wine), Sunday - Breakfast, unlimited landing fees) Package 2 SATURDAY Gourmet Buffet Dinner ONLY per person $140.00 (Includes: Entire weekend bus transfers to and from accommodation/airport, bus transfers to and from Silverton, Saturday Breakfast and lunch, Saturday Night Gourmet Buffet Dinner) and Sunday Breakfast.
