  1. I have decided to put a strip on the farm at home. As can been seen from the photo, the area is basically level , however as this paddock has been previously ploughed and then seeded and returned to pasture there is small hips and hollows down the selected site. I have considered running the grader down the strip to just take off the high spots, another thought would be to either plough over and over or rotory hoe then drag smooth with mesh or similar.Clearly I need the grass to grow back quickly and thick. Has anyone faced a similar situation and if so, what did you do and what was the end result??

Definately the best to grade it with a slight fall off to the sides. Then tow a sheet of mesh behind a car to level and pick up any small sticks.

I then seeded mine with a 40 to 1 mixture of Siberian Millett and Couch seed.

  2. Pehaps the next renewal will be twelve months from the process date not the now past renewal due date.Cheers Mike

Interesting. If it is renewed from the past due date then you won't have been unregistered at all !

  3. Now that raises another question. To what extent has RA-Aus made reasonable efforts to ensure that all of those whose registrations have not yet been processed are aware that the are not yet able to fly? Joe Bloggs lives in outback Queensland, has no internet and has been a member for years. Every year he has posted in his renewal, and every year it has taken quite some time to come back due to slow postal services. So he keeps flying, blissfully unaware, thinking the paperwork will turn up eventually. What has been done exactly to ensure that all members are aware that if your registration has been delayed, you must not fly?

Depends if they renew it from the due date or from the date when eventually process the renewal?

  4. This is a deliberate move to reduce air safety. In the past all one needed to do was google say, Area 30 NOTAM and it was all there.

It is airservices fault that many more will now fly without having accessed the NOTAMS.

Safety info should be easy to find.

    Airservices has failed.

NAIPS Internet Service has encountered an error

    What happened

There has been an unexpected error in the NAIPS Internet Service system.

The system administrator will be advised of the details.

What you can do about it

Attempt to repeat the series of actions in the lead up to the error.

Log off and on then repeat those actions.

Close and restart your browser, logon and attempt again.

If the problem persists, contact the Airservices Australia Desk (24/7) on 1800 801 960.

Great! Been trying to login for the last two hours to get forecast and lodge flight details.

  5. Shell got out of their cards a year or so ago, except for big users. The bowsers have been converted and accept mastercard, so it is even easier. Gladstone accepts mastercard.Old Station can supply fuel, but I am not sure if they can accept a card. I used a cheque with them.

I used a credit card at Old Station at the fly in last May.

  6. I take it this does not mean the actual RPL is now available? This still needs to be approved by CASA before we start seeing it available?

    Approved 29th June 2012

On 29 June 2012, the Acting Director of Aviation Safety granted an exemption, CASA EX68/12 against the holding of a medical certificate by holders of a CASA issued Student pilot licence, Private pilot licence, Commercial pilot licence and Air Transport pilot licence - when a pilot is conducting private operations and agreed to comply with the limitations and conditions in the exemption, which includes being subject to a modified driver licence medical examination. 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

  7. Hi All,Just doing something at work at the moment. If you were to purchase the lease on a hangar (Say it cost $50k or something). Are there any ongoing costs payable to AAC on top of the purchase price? Wouldn't there be body corp or some kind of regular fee to AAC or something (not counting landing fees)?

    Cheers,

    Shags

Annual Ground Rent is payable to AAC based on the area (m2) and is at a rate equivalent to adjacent industrial property rents in the area.

  8. You must of missed the late night riding of the mechanical bull by some of the local ladies. The funniest of these was my wife trying to get up on to the bull ( which is difficult as she is so short ) when Ronnie Creed valiantly tried to help but only suceeded in pushing her right up, over and straight off the other side!!!!As part of the team greeting arriving aircraft I took photos of every aircraft there. I will tally up some numbers and report later but the Savanagh was definitely the highest number of type.

Definitely another top weekend at Old Station, lets hope the weather is kinder next year.

Great weekend as usual at 'Old Station' Missed the jelley wrestling but managed to see the womens cross cut saw comp with Leonie and the girls getting into it.

Good to catch up with you and Helen again. Departed OSN 8.30 this morning (Mon) for Talegalla . Had a good run in the Tecnam. Pity about the 20kt headwind.

  9. I have fitted a vernier throttle to my under construction RV4, but now my Technical Councillor is suggesting that it will no be safe as you have to push in the knob on the throttle to move it either way. Not a problem adding power as it is all in the same direction, but could be to reduce power.I can remember flying 182 Cessnas with this type of throttle, but my TC cannot.

Does anyone here have any experience with these throttles?

All the Beechcraft Bonanzas and Debonairs I have flown had vernier throttles.

    ....Mick

  10. Yep, in 400 hrs, we have never had to add any oil at all between the regular scheduled changes. The only issue I have had in the past has been a few cracks in the muffler. And maj, you might have a solution to this, just finished a 200hrly on the 912, but over the last 5 hrs it has developed a vibration between 3900 and 4200 rpm, outside this range she is a smooth as a Rotax can be, after the 200hr inspection and maintenance, the vibration is still there, so it's not carby balance issue, the only thing I can think of is, the throttle cable for the left carby is straight, and about 6 inches long, the cable for the right side carby originates next to the left hand cable, but is routed in a giant S turn and it's about 3 times as long as the left hand cable. Could flexing in the s cable be causing A imbalance in carby throttle position at about the 3900 to 4200 rpm range? Apart from that I can't think of anything that could be causing it! Maybe a spinner imbalance? Or a blade that's a few deg, or out of pitch with the other 2 blades cause it?

Apart from that, it's the most reliable and trouble free engine I have ever flown behind..

Also check that both chokes are fully off.

  11. I'm not sure about the economics of gun administration but the taxes on fags go part of the way to paying for the damage done by smokers to the hospital system, their families and society in general.I would imagine that the cops do incure costs administering the gun licencing laws.just like all computer databases

If only we could find a way of stopping all those unlicenced guns which are used to kill stock, shoot up traffic signs, farms and houses, rob banks and murder people. That would go a long way to reducing the vast amounts of time the cops have to put into firearm related crime.

Little Jonny Howard promised to do that with the big gun buy back.

Mean while back on ASIC's I have had an ASIC issued to me with someone else's photograph on it. Don't know if it was a mix up with the photos of someone with the same as me or not. Then when I went for my last Class2 medical renewal and my DAME brought up my CASA details on the computer screen lo and behold there was this other blokes or terrorist's picture on the screen complete with my ARN number and address details. He said 'thats not you' So much for the validity of CASA's info if it is gathered from ASIC application mix ups. Ah well just like all computer databases: "Garbage in = Garbage Out"

  12. Old Station Flying Club had a meeting today and the Wings ans Wheels is a goer for the last Saturday in May. We now have our own website. oldstationflying club.com.au so you can check it all out for yourselves. The strip looks just great now, miles of grass and neverending green.

That's good news Yenn. See you there again this year.

  13. We're located USA and own a 2006 Tecnam Sierra. We need to change out tire for regular maintenance but are unable to locate the axle spindle nut socket needed to remove the spindle nut. Does anyone know where this can be purchased online or otherwise?

Should be able to get one from your Tecnam dealer. I got one here in Aus from my local Tecnam dealer. If you are handy with metalworking you may be able to make one once you see a picture of one.

  14. We have found two restricter one on a T piece just after the outlet from the fuel pump that goes inline with an outlet on one side to return back to the tank, the other one that we had problem with was on the four way, one side being the inlet one either side going to the carbs. and the fourth one going to the fuel pressure gauge being restricted. some how we did not pick up on this one in the manual

    Dave

Yes Dave my Tecnam Super Echo also has two restrictors as you describe. I was aware of the one in the return line to the tank and noticed the one in the line to the fuel pressure gauge when I was replacing fuel hoses earlier in the year.

  15. Does the Tecnam have a return (bypass) fuel line back to the tank (with or without a tap)? I experienced this once in my Z at 500'. Had the return line turned off. Turned it on & all was good again. I've never turned the bypass off since. My situation was different in that I had just landed & shut the engine down for 5 minutes before starting it & taking off again. I deduced that it was vapour lock due to heat rise under the cowl at shutdown.Cheers

    Dexter

My Tecnam has a restrictor in the tee where the return line to the tank tees off the main fuel line from the pump to the carbs.

  16. Good evening all,Could someone please help and tell me at which airports one must display an ASAIC card. Is there a list somewhere or how does 1 check? This mat be a silly question but all I can find on the "official" sites is how I must wear it and how I can be locked up and fined if I dont!!!

I understood that it was at all airports where RPT ops took place but was also told there are some exceptions to this rule and have also been told I need to where it at Archerfield by some and others say no???

Too much grey here, need black and white!!!

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    DB

    From CASA website

NOTE: Some airports are classed as security controlled but do not have RPT operations. An ASIC is not required at these airports.

Essendon and Moorabbin airports have an area for RPT operations that is designated as security controlled and an ASIC is required. The remainder of the airport is not security controlled and an ASIC is not required. If you have any queries regarding whether or not an ASIC is required at a particular airport, or in a specific area of a particular airport, you should contact the airport direct or contact the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

ASIC is not required at Archerfield
