  1. This is my best app on my iPad and also have a backup on the phone. Before I used it in the plane I experimented with it in the car and on the bus on the way to work. Works a treat!!!! The developers for this App have done a great job... I quite often sit and go through some of the many different tools to get the best suit for me. Better to do it in the lounge chair than when flying and there is a lot happening. Now can submit flight plan direct from the application..so easy.
  2. This is something that I have often thought about. Think it may be worth sitting down with the Mrs and give her some advice. At least the basics that she needs to know that the radio would be her lifeline. This weekend she will be flying with me and I will advise her the basics on how to use the radio.
  3. I have quite often flown into Northam to get out and stretch the legs. BUT every time I have been there it is deserted. Are there any activities planned during the year. Do they have an active club, or regular fly ins.
  4. PPL now Completed.. It has finally finished. I got my PPL the other day. Such a weight off my shoulders..Now to plan where my first trip is going to be
  5. Good decision Tigerfish, Good decision that you have heeded the advice of people on this site regarding Cyclones. Cyclone season is just starting and as mentioned inland the temperatures are excessive creating thermals. I flew locally last week, temp was 38 degrees and thermals were throwing me up 400 ft in a few moments, That was in a Piper warrior. Very hard to maintain altitude. Dest Devills or Willy Willys a problem that day, not very pleasant to fly through one of them. Gave me quite a scare. :ah_oh: Did not see it as it had not picked up any dust. i was performing climbing turn at 500ft in the circuit, so you can imagine how I felt. Just returned from a vacation in Adelaide...very nice country to drive around, next time it will be in the air. What ever you do, take care.
  6. Hope you guys may be able to help me. I have a friend who is colour blind and is desperate to get up in the air. Medically he is fit and fine but has trouble discerning Green and Red. Is he able to obtain a recreational licence. What are the medical requirements. I understood that if you were able to hold a driving licence then medically you were fine for recreational flying... I do know that PPL and CPL are out of the question for him. He is based in Canberra and so what would be the best option for him???
  7. Where are you flying...Beautiful scenerary...That is what flying is all about
  8. Congratulations. Well done Flighty girl...It is daunting but will giv you alot of confidence. You will be finished your training and then off on your own. Such a good feeling..Well done..
  9. Any reports, positive or negative on the latest changes.??
  10. Congrats Horsefeathers Well done on your first SOLO it is quite an experience. Something you will not forget for a very long time, may be never forget it.... Enjoy the feeling. It is a funny feeling when you realise you are alone and it is all up to you. Your Instructer know you competencies and skill or she would never have let you attempt it. It is also a good feeling for the Instructer to see one of their students acheive this milestone.. Well done...
  11. Thanks for the info Guys Just wanted to say thanks to you all for the information. Made things alot clearer for me. Appreciate your comments..
  12. Apology,,,, Hey I have just looked at your location and I have seen it is Bindoon abandoned... My apologies...but calls are very fast.
  13. Comms Great video.. Only comments are that I found the location in all the calls very muffled...listened many times. I know it is Bindoon but can not make out the rest...sounds like 'Bindoon abandoned'...May be that you are saying very fast, perhaps need to slow down a touch. You also tend to favour the left corner of the runway rather than the centre, or is there a reason for that. Other wise a good job...well done.. PS.. These are not critisims but my observations..:black_eye:
  14. Response Thanks for the reply So flying an RA aircraft, a PPL at the controls, with Transponder and all the legal equipment would have no real restrictions with regards to airspace. Is that the correct assumption.
  15. Could I get some clarity with regards to RA aircraft and their limitations with regards to airspace. Are recreational aircraft allowed to fly in controlled airspace at all, or are they restricted to Class G airspace? Are RA allowed to land at GAAP (Soon to change) airports. What if the RA plane was being piloted by a PPL and had a transponder and all the legal equipment. Where would they be able to fly then?
