  1. Well I'll keep an eye out for you every morning and afternoon on my way to and from work. If you look down on approach or departure and see an idiot waving madly towards the sky, that'll be me wishing I was up there with you......although, it's a bit hard to fit three in a Sportstar, so I guess I'll be wishing I was up there instead of you.

Have fun on the forum and again, welcome.

  2. over 300 hours being the number one passenger, in charge of navigating, radio frequencies, photography and of course, in flight entertainment! Kaz

You've probably got a lot more air time than a lot of pilots on this forum....especially me. I'm more than happy to have you join us, after all, it is for those who love flying. For those like me who haven't done the cross country rating yet....we know who to speak to for advice ;)

  3. Lee,

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones when it comes to time. I managed to get all of my training done and have my pilot certificate issued at 20 hours.

I found that, like you, being at the coast I was doing a lot of flying with the instructor in reasonably heavy winds and I think it helped me learn to FLY the plane better so that when it came to solo, it didn't matter what the conditions were like. Luckily, my first solo was on a calm day.....for the first 3 landings, after that it started getting a little windy. In the 16 months since then, I think I've had 2 or 3 calm(ish) days.

I do agree with the others, if you want to fly in calm/light winds, get in some early morning lessons, trust me, it's worth it when you see how great your first solo is.

  4. Welcome Sain.

I'm in Canberra too. I too learned to fly in a Gazelle and still fly it but in Moruya. An easy aircraft to learn in. You'll have an absolute ball flying, especially when you get to your first solo. Be sure to let us all know when you get to that stage how you went and how much you enjoyed it.

  5. That's excellent. Went for a quick fly in one at the Top End Flying Club near Darwin about 4 weeks ago....made me want to get one too. Now it's just a choice between doing that or going GA.....hmm, I just don't know at this stage. If you do get one, I'll come up and have a look when I'm in QLD.

If you ever get the chance, drop in and talk to Wayne at Lismore, if there's anyone that knows Drifters, it's him. He seems more than happy to answer any questions.

    Good luck with it.

  6. I was in Lismore talking to Wayne Fisher just last Sunday. He said it would be around the $2500-$3000 mark for new skins. You can email him at [email protected] He mentioned his business was the only one that makes and sells new skins. Give him a call or send him an email, he can tell you anything you want to know re: drifters

  7. Hi Paul,,

I saw you yesterday at Moruya, I was flying around in the yellow Gazelle. What a great day it was down the coast yesterday, three helicopters coming in and out all morning and the weather was just great. And such a nice coastline to fly over. Should have followed you down to Montague Island.

  8. Hi all,

I'm new here, thought someone might be able to help me. I'm thinking about getting a Drifter for my first aircraft. Anybody know of one in a decent condition for less than $15000. In fact $10000 (ish) would be good, leaves me a bit of cash for improvements. I've already emailed Wayne Fisher and he's going to send me a list so I'm looking for the 'word of mouth'.

Also, I live in Canberra where there isn't many places to keep an ultralight. Does anyone know of somewhere near Canberra for hangerage?
