  1. Contact the airport manager before you fly in. You will find them in ERSA. They will charge you for landing and parking and can provide all the details you need.

When you start flying in youwill need an arrival clearance (into the CTR) and a ground taxi clearance once you leave the runways.

Talk to your school as well as they may be able to offer you tiedowns.

    Which school are you with?

  3. Hi Hemlock,There are also various Jab 160/170/230's at Bathurst (Central West ??), Mudgee (not sure of name ) and Orange (Orange Ultraflight). Further west I think there are Foxbats at Forbes; also Foxbats at Scone (Aero Club) in the Hunter.

I did a few hours out at Orange for much the same reason as you are contemplating, before passing my Certificate back home. Ken was very precise in fixing some of my sloppiness and I found his briefs and notes outstanding. I also found it extremely valuable in an unfamiliar environment and handling the performance differences flying from a 3000' odd aerodrome as opposed to one at sea level. Jabs take a LOT more runway there!

    Have fun!

    And Orange has

  4. Reluctance to vote is a worry. How many people in the world would die to be allowed to vote and can't get that right extended to them. We take too much for granted because we as individuals did not have to get off out backsides at all to achieve it.How does the song go?... You won't know what you have lost till it's gone. I applaud those who offer themselves for these jobs and good on you Col for your posts as well. Disappointing the voting turnout.. Nev

    Thanks Nev.

And thanks to all those who vote - no matter how you voted.

    Cheers

  5. And yes, I can't see how a venturi can exist in an open (ie above a wing) system.

It can. Think of it as a venturi with an infinite width throat. Like water, wind can't move out of the way instantly and thus provides a laminar barrier to moving air closer to the airfoil.

If the airfoil shape didn't add lift perhaps we could replace them, propellors and racing boat mainsaile with flat planks.

A simpler explanation might be "majik". This sometimes helps when I get a head ache thinking about some of this stuff.

    cheers

  6. Announcement: Stolen shoe apology. A very formal handback ceremony due to the great importance, will be held to return the stolen shoe in return for the stolen land.

In the meantime, Julia will be provided a voucher for replacement footage only at specified shops. Footage from SBS and the ABC will not be acceptable as these providers may be too difficult to manipulate. No further mileage from the incident is to be made.

Julia will be eligible to make a shoe title claim which will take approximately twenty years or more before this is seriously considered. This will be dependant on Julia being able to show continuous connection with the shoe. This may be difficult to prove as she will not have had the shoe for 20 years.

Julia will also have to provide evidence she is a full-blooded shoe owner.

Well aware of the mileage he would get out of this footage incident, Tony was willing to cede sovereignty of the shoe without resistance, proving he doesn't have a leg to stand on. In the spirit of reconciliation, Tony is offered a voucher to assist in costs to cover his crutch.

  7. Read a lot of them from age 10 to about 14. Don't have the copies anymore ... maybe mum still has them.I remember when I started high school at age 12 in Form 3 (we started high school at Form 3 in NZ) when our English Master asked the whole class what books we had recently read ... no guesses the response I got when I told the whole class I had just read a whole series of Biggles Books, not to mention the condescending response from the English master. He really was an arrogant condescending old bastard (see it still affects me to this day ... 049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif )

and as a consequence you have trouble string one word together?

  8. Yes TB and I agree that's what you would expect from a 2 party government political system...I just personally think that it wouldn't be right in just an Association of members type of thing because we are all together...there isn't us or them, there isn't fractions, all candidates are also members as well that the rep is suppose to be representing...we are just all together as one and the board member will still be representing the losing candidates thus their association members after the election.

Sorry Ian, you are dead wrong. It is not about parties, factions, or conspiracies, it is about an informed membership making informed decisions about their association. If you shut down board member comment then you are allowing the old boys wall of silence to win. Fred Nurk claims 54 years experience on the board - what did he experience on the board? Did he contribute to the board? Was he effective? or was it the same 6 months repeated 108 times?

I think the last election "campaign" was illuminating and the RA-Aus politic is much better understood. A big issue was board secrecy and non-disclosure.

I certainly have more faith in this board and executive than I did in the last but I still want semi-continuous disclosure of the board function and board behaviours and in much greater detail than I get from the current board summaries and candidate statements.

If Don Ramsay contributes to that better knowledge I say more power to him.

    Cheers

  9. ! in 60 should be used as part of a flight planning process. You plan your flight, you choose waypoints based on a number of criteria including "can I see it if I am off course and will it assist me in getting back on course" and a method of gauging how far you are off course and how to get back.

Some people use angle markings, some people use 1 in 60. Others use a GPS and others are lucky to find that everytime they fly they are bang on the mark of every waypoint. Others just follow roads and rail (IFR) NB following powerlines is not recommended as they can become invisible - we need to have them painted bright orange..

If your waypoints are in miles not minutes and they are in simple divisions of 60, say around 20 or 30 miles apart then the 1 in 60 is easy to use. (oh, bugger I have just got into the miles v minutes war - oops)

1 in 60 is OK provided you don't complicate it.

  10. Snip - snip

All that aside, Col I wish you luck, however please do regularly contribute here as otherwise members may think that you have signed up to further your political position.

Hopefully you are able to contribute here and use the collective wisdom to assist with your position if successful.

Thanks Avi8tr for the gentle suggestion you made. Whether I am on the board or not I will try to have a face and contribute where I can be of service, my responses aren't too lethal and my questions aren't too stupid.

    Keep well
