  1. G'day Redair, I've just started training and have bought the ' Student Pilot Kit ' by the Aviation Theory Centre. Costs about $140 and has BAK manual, Flying Training Manual, Flight Radio For Pilots and a Pilots Log Book. It's a basic kit for PPL and covers everything for RAA. Also handy if you decide to go further (eg PPL) regards Case
  2. A quote from The Brisbane Courier Mail newspaper below suggests that the aircraft may have broken upin flight. ===================================================== NRMA CareFlight senior pilot Ken Vote, who first spotted the wreckage, said the tail of the aircraft was some distance from its fuselage. "I would suspect that it's suffered some sort of in-flight break-up," he said. "It's hard to imagine that this piece has hit the ground with the rest of it and bounced a half a mile through the trees. ==================================================== Case

  7. G'day All, I was just looking through this months RA-aus mag. and was wondering if someone could tell me the type of aircraft that is pictured on page 30, bottom right. The one title 'This is a recreational aircraft isn't it'. It's not the CH601 talked about in the article. regards Case
  8. Thanks Michael, That is clear enough. regards Case
  9. Hi All, Can anyone tell what exactly is the difference between certified and uncertified aircraft engines ?. Do certified engines have different (better quality) parts ? Regards Case
  10. G'day Gavin, Not sure if you have noticed, but I have put a message in your Inbox. regards Case
  11. Thanks Bruce. I had not seen this part of the RAAus site before. This is the type of info I would expect to see. The only problem is that the last reported accident was May 2003. regards Case
  12. G'day All, We hear the news on Radio and TV and read it in the newspapers and without knowing the real details we can only assume that the reported details are accurate. This accident was again reported in today’s Sunday Mail (Brisbane) and it has a couple errors that make you wonder about anything you see or hear from the media. In the article they say the pilot had 30 years experience, yet in one of the post above he is quoted as having 13 years experience. In the same sentence in today's article they report that he ' put the landing gear down '. Even a cursory inspection of the accompanying photograph shows that it has fixed landing gear. The article suggests that the reason for the accident was that the fuel cap was inadvertently left off and as a result the fuel tank was sucked dry. This may or may not have been the reason given other discrepancies in the article. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, where do we get the real info ?. GA accidents/incidents are investigated and reported on the ATSB website for everyone to read and learn from. But what about RAAus aircraft accidents. I haven't been able to find any factual info on these events anywhere. Am I not looking in the right places or are RAAus investigations not made public. To make flying in recreational aircraft as safe as possible we should be able to read the real facts and learn from the hardware failures or mistakes of others. Regards Case
  13. Thanks Ian, Seems like cheating though. regards Case
  14. Hi All, This is my first post in this forum (in fact the first post on the site). I've probably missed something in the documentation but can anyone please tell me an easy way to find the refueling bowsers at airports in Flight Sim 2004. I know not all airports have fuel but in some of the larger airports around the world I seem to be taxiing around for hours trying to find fuel. Sometimes with no luck at all. Also, when I'm planning a flight, I'm never sure if there will be fuel at the destination. Is there any way to tell if there is fuel at the destination without positioning yourself there before the actual flight. regards Case
