  1. Nice choice T87. Did you order it direct from the US ?.
  2. Nice picks and presentation Mike. Would be nice to see more pics of British Columbia and the Rockys from the air
  3. I've seen the allowance for floats in the official documentation but I can't say I've read anything about an allowance for a recovery system. Can anyone point me to where it's written ?.
  4. Excellent! The XL is on at the top of my list when I get my certificate. The price keeps getting better by the day.
  5. G'day Ian, Are all 3 kits you (and your friends) have bought going to be built in Brisbane. I've been looking at a Zodiac kit myself.
  6. G'day Ian, Garry Sweetnam is based at Coolangatta and has a Zenith Zodiac XL. He is also the Zenith company east coast rep. The aircraft is VH registered as Coolangatta is controlled airspace but I've been down to see him and have had a fly in the XL. Not sure what he charges but a flight up the beach to Southport and back will certainly impress your brother. Garry had the XL down at Narromine at Easter. Garry's contact details :- Mobile 0409 939 007 or via email at [email protected]
  7. Hello Andrey, Welcome to the forums! You will find a lot of excellent information here and lots of friendly people. Ask anything you want and you will find someone with the answer. Again, welcome and enjoy your stay
  8. And I've put it on the Airstrips page so we don't loose it again.
  9. Found it ! It's actually closer to Tamborine village than Canungra. If you use Google earth - put -27.924744, 153.116317 in the search and it will take you there. Got it by comparing the picture on the Flying Tigers site and following the creek/road and finding the sheds in the background.
  10. Hi Sabre, There is a listing for Canungra (YCGA) but I can't find any details of an air strip. The location is 28 01' 00" S, 153 10' 00" E. I can't see anything that looks like a field on Google Earth at that location. The Canungra Flying Club appears to use Kooralbyn airfield for their meetings.

  12. I think it will be a fairly basic set up. Your phone will need to be GSM. 3G (or Next G) phones will use normal GSM as they do on the ground if 3G coverage is lost. They will probably run a 'leaky coax' antenna above the passenger seats connected to a base station in the aircraft similar to terrestrial bases. Direct connection to a terrestrial base is not possible as the Doppler effect makes it impossible to maintain GSM connections when travelling faster than about 250Km per hour. The aircraft will have a satellite link for it's external communications. GSM phones have separate voice and signalling channels, SMS uses only the sig channel so I suspect they will only provide a signalling channel on the base station. Not sure how email is achieved.
  13. Onya Ian. Look after the family. Support works both ways. All (except Ian) - I'll bet he can't resist having a peek in here while he's on " holidays " ;)
  14. Hi All, I too had a great day at Narromine on Friday. Unfortunately we only had a day but what a great experience. It was good to meet (and put a face to) some of the people on the forum. And so many aircraft - fabulous!
  15. Thanks for the info JL. Had a ring around Dubbo last week and there is still some (motel) room left. Couldn't get anything in Narromine. It's only 40K Dubbo to Narromine, half hour drive isn't too bad.
  16. G'day All, It looks like I will be able to get down to Narromine (driving) for Friday. Does anyone know if there are official daily opening and closing times for the event.
  17. Hello Ko, Welcome to the forums. You will have a good time here. There is lots of good information and very friendly helpfull people. Enjoy Are you trying to get a full PPL or a recreational license ?. regards Case (Kees)

    Master Fuse

Paul, From experience, a fuse blows because there is a fault (short circuit perhaps) in the electrical system somewhere. Especially when it's a 100A fuse ! It takes a very low resistance (~ 0.1 ohm) to blow a 100A fuse at 12 volts. Nothing in the aircraft would be that low resistance except the starter motor. The power supply to the starter motor is not fused because it drags very large currents. Batteries themselves don’t blow fuses. It’s just the amount of current you try to drag out of them that will. My concern would be that it will blow in mid flight. I'm not familiar with the wiring of a Technam so don't know if you would loose spark in such an event but you would certainly loose everything else. I would start the engine, then remove the fuse and see if it still continues to run. At least you will know the worst scenario should it happen after you've left the ground. I would be checking the wiring everywhere I could get access. With that amount of current draw there is very likely burn marks where the short is occurring. Pay particular attention where wires pass through the airframe. Vibration of the insulation against sharp metal airframe parts will soon turn into a short. There is a possibility that an instrument (gauge, radio, gps, relay etc) could have an internal fault but this is less likely than a direct short to the airframe somewhere. Does it always blow when the engine is being started ?. If so I would be looking around the starter solenoid/starter switch area. Electric trim motors and their wiring would also be high on the list. You may need to get in behind the panel and check there if nothing else is obvious.
  20. Couldn't have been a couple of F111 doing a dump and burn ?

    P92 Tyre Pressure (PSI)

Sam, Tristo is close with the pressures. If you put ' convert 1.4 bar to psi ' into Google search it comes up with the answers. 1.4 bar is 20 psi and 1 bar is 14.5 psi
  22. And this from the Seven site --------------------------------------------------------------- Pilot critical after light plane crash The pilot of a light plane that crashed in Sydney's west is in a critical condition after emergency crews managed to free him from the aircraft. The man and his male passenger, both believed to be in their 40s, were injured when the plane came down in a field adjacent to the M7 motorway at Horsley Park at about 4.50pm (AEDT) on Monday. The pilot was trapped in the cockpit of the crashed plane for almost an hour before rescuers were able to free him. He is in a critical condition with head and limb injuries and has suspected spinal and neck injuries. The man was being airlifted by the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter to Westmead Hospital. His passenger has already been taken to Liverpool Hospital with head injuries and was in a serious condition. --------------------------------------------------------------- Case
  23. Just found this on the ABC news site. A lucky escape considering there was also a fire. Quote - ABC News Pilot escapes light plane crash with minor injuries A pilot has had a lucky escape after his ultralight plane crashed and caught fire in far north Queensland today. The ultralight went down shortly after midday today, just outside of Atherton. Police say the male pilot was trapped for some time in the wreckage before rescue crews arrived. Brian Smith from Atherton police says the man crashed near the Atherton Aerodrome. "The ambulance have been at the scene and they've attended to him," he said. "He's got minor cuts and bruising, he's got a bit of whip lash." He says the plane caught alight after crashing but the blaze had burned out by the time fire crews arrived.
  24. I'm sure he would have just said :- "Golly Gosh, they should be much more careful with those tow cables"
  25. Has anyone heard of an accident in North Queensland today. Got the tail end of a radio news report but have been unable to get more info. Case
