  1. flap switch

     

    Hi there Jimmy. I know the flap sw.

     

    is hard to reach, I made an extion on it , have you flown the aircraft with it, if so is it still hard to reach. I have been thinking of where to put it, for both inst. and student to reach. may be we put it on the stick for the center stick. Glade to here you like flying the sierra.

     

     

  2. flying school

     

    The Sierra 200 started in a flying school this weekend at Taree and Kempsey, we had some good feed back, and fine tuning it to new students, to suite them. the adjustable rudder peddles has made a big difference for pilots that have had trouble in the past with other aircraft, we have improved the take off to get airborne, now you dont know that that you have left the ground, untill you see the ground moving away.

     

     

  3. Each time a different student gets into the aircraft,he can use the rocker switch on top of the throttel to adjust the rudder peddles to suite, 300mm travel for the short and tall pilots.   4. WE are looking at streaching the Super Daimond mk3 twister fuslarge to a tamden tail wheel, extending the wing to a 4 piece to get into the hangar 17m span, and a 2.2 jab up front . I spoke to GFA and looks OK to build it with them, I can get into more airfields then, and the council here will get off my back operating the sf27m, and i can fly inland more to better lift.

     

     

  5. All the paper work is now in the RAA hands, in the next month we should have the Sierra 200 passed to put a 24 - on it . As a trainer the 200 fusalarge is wider 3", and the rudder peddles are fully adjustable 300mm foward and back, we have fitted a 2.2 jab in it for running costs in a school, still cruise 110kts. Goes to the paint shop next week.We will offer a very good discount price for schools.

    Yes Black Rod the cheetah stays, the sierra 200 for the 24rego, the 200 fuse is wider. 2"at the steel frame, normally it is 1"narrower at the shoulders, but the 200 is 1"wider at the shoulders + the 2"in the steel frame.when a kit builder wants a wider fuse we will supply the 200 fuse, as now we have the set up , and all the tubes are cut to size.

     

    We hope to have our paper work in to RAA next week ,

     

    You are not far from Taree so when you go for a fly, come up and ill take you for a ride in the sierra.

     

     

  7. first cert. sierra 200 avaible in about 6 weeks

     

    All paper work will be complete in a week and delivered to RAA for there processing.

     

    Fully adjustable rudder peddles are fitted for training, a wider fuse for all sizes, and a gas spring on the nose leg. The sierra 200 will be one of the most robust training aircraft on the market, the sierra has been designed for very rough handling, and will take rough treament in the field for years. It has been shown that where little damage has been done to the aircraft, most others would be written off.

     

     

  8. Sf 27m

     

    After nealy 3 months or crapy weather i got my sf out of the hanngar on saterday and got 1.4 hrs . it has an old 26hp 4 cyclinder Hirth motor. it is slow getting up there but thats all it neets to do. It was to be able to work the lift easier with an off shore wind as we are often chasing the sea brease and broken lift.

     

     

  9. Flaps now avaible

     

    Flaps have now been fitted to a few aircraft, I find that they do give a greater rate of decent, but better landings are made with up to 1/2 flap.

     

    The Sierra 100 should have its cert. done by spring.

     

     

  10. load test sierra 100 wing

     

    the load testing was done this week under supervision or our ennginer, At 6G the wing spar still hadent gone into yeild state. The wing held at 8.5G load. After the test the wing had no perment damage and looked good as new, We then cut holes into the skin to inspect the spar web, there was no rippling or damage to any part of the wing it self. in the testing the spar end that goes into the fuse buckled at 8.5G

     

    The fuselarge had a 600lb twisting load aplied to the rear end, not even any skin ripplies where seen in the test. also the a test for the drage spar was performed with out any problems. the fuse strength is 3.5 x the 6G requirment before the 20th skin is allowered for. In the fuse tested we have left out the dianognal tubes in the bottom eccept the the fire wall nose leg brace.

     

    This aircraft will the strongest trainer avaible, with great controlabailty at all speeds, good cross wind handling, and most of all easy to fly, and not wear you out on long trips.011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

     

     

  11. materials

     

    never listen to any one other than the manfaucture. do not use 2024 alloy in our aircraft. the spars are 6061 t6 with a release report of the material. also never change the material or conponets of any kit with out the manfaucture knowing, it is to easy to get caught out. the fuslarge is 3.5 x the 6 G required for the british standard, this a lot higher than the europan standard, the wing was tested to 8.5G

     

    Also most of the imported aircraft dont use approved materials or bolts, do not comply to our standard ( brithish sec S) are so lightly built 12 months in a flying school and they are worn out. our australian aircraft are some of the very best out there because we build to a proper standard, we use steel fire walls as most of inports are alloy.

     

    The sierra is now under going certificating in australia and will be one of the strongest and best you will find.

     

     

  12. rotax in sierra

     

    There are 3 sierra aircraft fitted with rotax motors a cheetah in Auckland is flying with a 80hp 912 and i heard cruising at 115 kts. another in the south island with 100hp rotax in a sierra will fly this week. dont know about the other one.the 100hp rotax looks to perform as good as the 3.3 jab

     

     

  13. OK here it is , on our demo flights we are not on MTOW and we may pull up the nose. The CASA requirment for certificatian is that the aircraft is still under control at the minium speed , not stalled and nose falling.

     

    The stall speed to CASA requirments is 32kts with flap and 37kts clean at MTOW

     

    the ASI at times shows lower speeds than this, because of the lower weight and pulling up the nose.
