    1. register airframe with CASA once in lifetime and get issued VH- registration to display.

    2. operate and maintain airframe under RAAus techmanual and opsmanual with:

      a. annual certificate of validity on airframe registration

      b. annual certificate of  validity on pilot certificate

Yes, Easily done if they wanted to,, but why change the rego number? It's pretty much how you identify the exemption it's operated under.

An Annual isn't problem we are required to do them now, and much like GA, who's policing it?

We already have BFRs, just as GA do and the same goes for policing it. Those who do them will have it recorded in a logbook just like GA.

and they're picking up the 30 year old women with $84,000 clocked up in parking fines for a bonus.

While I have no problem with picking these people up, if they haven't paid $84K in fines, why would they start paying now? I'm quite certain that the regulators that come up with some of this stuff really haven't thought it through.

Reminds me of Hans Blix threatening Kim Jong Il in Team America.

OK you should know that admitting to committing a felony that is not as bad as others is no defence - you should have claimed undue persecution, in being singled out from a crowd ie why weren't all the other noise makers charged? (hinting that he police officer involved in your case had something against you personally)

Probably wasn't the exhaust noise they were worried about....Most likely the screeching rear tyre and smoke  while OK was doing donuts out the front of the cop station🤣

No offence intended M61A1 but you clearly have no concept of how a highly infectious epidemic/quarantine situation must be managed IF IT IS TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF SUCCEEDING.

The problem with the NSW & Federal Governments is that they are putting short term economic interest ahead of human health.

It has been understood since ancient times, that for a quarantine to be successful it must be 100% This concept of outbreak control is complete BS and can only lead to greater economic and human suffering.

We still have a chance of eliminating the virus from within our national boundaries – SA/WA/Tas/Qld/NT all understand this. I suspect Vic (Dan) does as well. Without the co-operation of NSW, total elimination CV-19 is unlikely (not impossible).

The naysayers point out that C V-19 will still come in from overseas – true that’s why strict NO EXCEPTIONS (no special circumstances/wealthy/politicians/sports people/media personalities/etc) quarantine for all incoming persons must be implemented – that way the virus can be kept out of the general population and any positives can be handled appropriately in quarantine.

Australia used to have quarantine stations, in the vicinity of our major ports. With modern medicine we fooled ourselves that they were no longer needed. Nature has a way of demonstrating how arrogant we have become. We need new purpose built quarantine stations, strategically located (Central Australia would be good and bring a few much needed jobs or Christmas Island or similar) able to handle thousands of entries into Australia - the only way to keep us safe and still have some semblance of international human movement. I doubt very much that the "Bubble" concept will be manageable in the long term.

With a clean population, life has a chance of returning to some semblance of normalcy – within our national boundaries.

Those industries that have been built on short term overseas visitors (international tourism) - I don’t think it would be wise to invest in any related activity for many years to come – this includes passenger airlines.

What of an effective vaccine? Could be round the corner. Could still be years away or never. Even if we get one, what will be its efficacy and for how long will immunity be conferred? Then there is the problem of distribution – will the wealthy West supply sufficient vaccine to the poor of Africa, Indian Sub-Continent, Asia, Pacific and the Middle East, for a complete control/elimination? If they don’t the virus will continue to circulate, probably evolve and come back to bite us big time.

It has been well publicised that some of Dan's measures were not ever recommended by his CHO, infectious disease experts or anyone, and much discussion about the lack of effectiveness of said measures. Unless you only listen to the ABC, in which case Dan is god.

I will leave this discussion right here, as we've had this discussion many times over and the thread ended up being terminated.

There are various opinions on how bad the virus is and whether the response was appropriate and clearly we are poles apart. So I will leave it there.

    As for "Danistan"

In Victoria, the person making the rules since the original State of Emergency, and in the current State of Disaster, under similar temporary legislation has been the Chief Health Officer, Professor Brett Sutton.   So you are shooting the messenger aiming at Dan.

As has been mentioned many times...Dan put these people there, and  some of them , it turns out have not made some recommendations that Dan has claimed he is acting on. So no matter which way you look at it....Dan is in charge and is ultimately responsible for Victoria and the mess that it's in. Same goes for the idiot we have running QLD, she'd be a Dan in the blink of an eye if a few people became infected.

It may surprise you to learn also that the airports are generally well monitored, and just because Turbo doesn't approve doesn't make it illegal.

For what it’s worth, the SAFETY  buck stops with me......doing a preflight with a CASA guy and his book of rules looking  over my shoulder  will do nothing, because he probably does not have clue on the aircraft I am preflighting.

When I am flying, am I gonna consult the rule book before I do something at 4000ft?  No, I am flying the plane the best way I know I have been taught.  I will fly as safe as I can, and nothing CASA ever does can save me from a disaster if I get it wrong.

Like everything in this life, I just do my best......

CASA will never save my sorry arse......

Exactly....No one else can do as much to keep you safe as you can do yourself. Dan's trying hard though.

Is it really defence force personnel outlook causing the problem? It could be just bureaucrats, people who make rules and cannot believe they are stupid. When queried they fall back on the old position of I am in charge, I know what is best, I will not change.

    All they want is control.

I see it as part of the problem. That and the "Safety at all costs" mentality, and other issues.

Their experience seems to have been "If it's broke, chuck it and put in a new one". They never had to deal with the economic realities of life in the public sector.

That would be an understatement......My experience is....

Tradie-" I think it could be worn"

Supervisor- "Replace it anyway, I don't want to get in trouble for sending it out U/S"

Tradie- "This bolt is corroded" (looking at a tiny spot of surface corrosion on the head)...." We have a whole box of 'em. I'll replace it" (even if they didn't have a box of them, they would order it AOG at great cost)

That's why I cringe every time I hear we have ex-defence people getting into RAus management. ( I'm ex defence too BTW)

War is a shitty business and never fair, those involved will do whatever it takes.  Proves that Rotax reputation for reliability is second to none, for all the wrong uses......

Some may remember the old "From the wonderful world of General Electric" jingle from the Fridge ads.

The 20mm Vulcan cannons That I serviced were also from the wonderful world of General Electric. Many day to day companies have produced weapons. I also recall ads by Ford Aerospace for AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles.

As for fair....Yeager reckons that if you went into a dogfight thinking that it was going to be "fair" you would probably lose.

  9. Here is someone who used an MT CS prop.

Perhaps there is generally silence because your responses are abrasive and bordering on rude.

It appears that every response is met with ridicule.

  10. For those in the industry it's far from hilarious. The Original article may be a joke, bit I assure you that it's not that different in reality.

It bothers me greatly that our Police Service now thinks it's the Special Forces and our Defence Force is now more like a "Special School" competing to see just how "woke" they can be.

    It's not a good sign.

MS1A1 - I understand all of what you have said my question are:

What reputable CS propeller suppliers are there out there

What are the relative merits of the above

On your comment "WOT 5500 RPM" - if I were to set my existing ground adjustable prop for this, I have no doubt that my high speed cruise would be in the vicinity of 125 knots (an improvement of about + 6 knots) BUT my take off role would be very much longer and my climb less - in my situation this puts my life at risk.

Aware of that Skippy, that's why I said a CS prop would be beneficial.

Airmaster is the only significant experience I have. No problems with them and they are available with different blade type options. If I was buying one , they would be my choice.

If you don't understand the merits of the CS pop, don't get one.

Hi M61A1 - Never tried WOT in strait level - Waaay toooo scary seeing the RPM climb so quickly into the red. Take off, I get 5800 RPM  easy - never stay there for long , throttle back as soon as I get to 2000 ft. Static WOT is 5200 RPM @ my current prop settings.

    See data attached:

Then, I think that a CS prop is probably going to provide some benefit.

The Rotax owner website recommends setting up for Max continuous (around 5500 RPM) at WOT straight and level.

If the Zephyr is a clean as you reckon, there may well be another 10 kts to be gained.

The only CS prop I have had a few hours behind is a 3 blade Airmaster in another slippery airframe. I think that it does a great deal for the aircraft. It gets full power on takeoff and climbout around 60 kts while knuckling down  with speeds over 130kts at times. It is also simple to operate and can be feathered in case of engine failure.

That is a bit subjective though, as in, If I had to spend $12k on one I might look to see what else I could do

All laws are there to be challenged -

Tell me how Robin Austen's Sonerai VH-SRS, can have a high speed cruise of 170 knots, an every day economy cruise of 160 knots and a stall speed of under 40 knots, all in a little  2 seat aircraft, powered by a Rotax 912 ULS, that can easily fit into RAA standards ?

His Sonerai is 50 -60 knots faster than my aircraft, is limited by the same power potential & fuel consumption constraints as mine. Sure his airframe may be optimised for efficiency/speed, the Zephyr is non to draggy by everyday standards either,  though not in the Sonerai class , so all I would like is a miserly extra 10 knots. Where is the problem?

What that means is that the Zephyr must be aerodynamically dirtier than you think.

The laws of physics remain....Increase thrust or reduce drag.

For something with a broad range of speed like your Zephyr the CS prop is likely to give some good gains. At which end, and how much you won't know until you try.

Not being silly, but isn't that a condition that you could reach at the end of a long flight?  But by then the weight  would have reduced due to fuel burn, so the CofG might have moved, but still be within the envelope, wouldn't it?

I had to tell an acquaintance that I couldn't take him for a fly. I could have been under MTOW if I took a light fuel load and had a short flight, but would have exceeded my aft CoG limit even before I took off.

putting aside the obvious (knowing various pre computed or weighed scenarios which can cover most likelihoods : )

ahhh tricycle : ummm check how easy it to tip the plane on its mains, -  by pulling down on the tail tiedown point , nose wheel off the ground ?

ahh tailwheel - hmm dunno.  maybe check how heavy the tail is by same way - pick up the tail ?

    Hahaha.....Nosewheel.......🤣

It amazes me that some bright spark hasn’t produced a reliable cockpit aid that uses pressure on undercarriage to compute actual CoG.

OzRunways has section in the aircraft library where you can create your own W&B envelope and load different configurations. I have set up several configs and find it really helpful.

The loss of power is easy to understand. Why the mixture became very rich is a mystery to me. I would assume that when the engine was being "throttled" by the exhaust the constant depression carburetor's slide would drop and the fuel air ratio would be maintained?  Anyone got an explanation?

Do you think it possible that the balance tube might be a contributing factor? Balancing the the negative pressure in the manifolds despite the fact that one can only use a portion of the other.
