1. Hi Nev,I had a 1937 empire star BSA 250cc, with foot gear change, & it still had the bolt studs on the tank for the hand gear.

Was offered 1000 pound and any new BSA in the BSA dealer's shop.

Shame, my mothers boyfriend took it for scrap to pay his gambling dept.

Bet you're 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif, it would fetch around $20grand today, in good shape.

  2. DARWIN POST (Last Tuesday), Woman saves herself in Crocodile attack using a small Walking Stick.

This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a walking stick against a fierce predator.

Here is her story in her own words:

"While out walking along the edge of a creek just outside of our house in Darwin, with my soon to be ex-husband discussing our property settlement, Kids and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 5 metre crocodile which suddenly emerged from the murky water and began charging at us very fast with its large jaws wide open.

The Croc must have been protecting her young and her home because she was extremely aggressive.

If I had not had my little $5 walking stick with me that I purchased from the Reject shop, I would not be here today!

Just one Hard Wack to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took....The' Croc got him easily and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace.

The amount I saved in lawyer’s fees was really incredible and I wound up with the lot.

  3. Just a little extra note, should some one have their drivers licence disqualied or recommended not to drive for medical reasons including mental illness then the RAA PC would be invalid. This has happened to someone I know.

In which case they would not meet the criteria of fitness to drive, which presumably then also applies to flying an RAA aircraft.

I don't think the ownership of a driving license comes into it.

  4. I went last time they had natfly there. And met a few of the forum members. Ian had a tent set up there.

I remember it well, weather turned crappy, but lovely company. It was a race to get the tent closed up before it all blew away with us still hanging on.

Not the best place to be with all the lightning.

  5. I found that so interesting FT.

I love seeing developments like this. This is what progress in design is all about.

I have no doubt that in a few years time many of our LSA's will be electric powered.

Having worked for 19yrs with the pioneers of the photoelectric industry prior to coming to Oz, I can see that not only the wings, but the majority of the airframe itself becoming one large solar panel would be very achievable to give even greater range.

All this stuff gets my old development brain working overtime.

If I don't sleep tonight, i'll know who to blame. 070_sleep.gif.1c8d367a0c12958f2106584470af404d.gif

  6. Many years ago with only about 4hrs up my sleeve, I mentioned to my instructor that I had taken the family to Australia's Wonderland the previous day, but they didn't get me to go on the Bush Beast rollercoaster. He replied "I have a cure for that".

Later out in the training area, he got me to climb to 3500 feet, reduce airspeed, pull on first stage of flap and trim for straight and level flight.

The same procedure followed with carby-heat on another couple of times, until we were hanging in the air on full flap at a much reduced speed, and the bugger then threw the flap lever to the floor.

The PA28 dropped like brick with no sky in the windscreen and wings out of level. With a wicked grin on his face, he talked me through restoring it to normal flight, then said "now go and try that roller coaster you chicken". 086_gaah.gif.afc514336d60d84c9b8d73d18c3ca02d.gif Not quite the lesson I was expecting, but I did learn how much lift the flaps provide.

  7. New boots :)

I thought i saw that same picture in "Trade-a-Hubby"

The ad said something along the lines of "Good looking gentleman with personality, interested in aviation, moviemaking, and a real man of the land with property:thumb up:.

In pretty good nick for the vintage, and very well maintained. New hips, new teeth, new clothes and above all, a flash set of new boots as modeled in photo which should last a lifetime.

Low maintenance with a good service life remaining.

Looking to meet lady of means with appropriate property.

Please send photo and dimensions of the hangar".

  8. You should have ducked next door to Bunning's for a cordless screwdriver dutch, and given it to them on the house, but the bastar*rds would have probably still hit you for $200 bucks for the charger!022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif but at least you might have saved $100 towards a few of your enjoyable aero's.

  9. Thanks for posting those videos Dominic.

I miss Biggin Hill, as I used to be a regular there when I lived nearby in Selsdon.

Occasionally, a pilot would do a fast low-level run heading west along the runway, cross the road, and drop out of view into the valley.

Everyone's heart was in their mouth, waiting for the bang and puff of smoke to appear, but they'd swing around out of sight and to much relief reappear again from the other end of the runway.

Got a short ride in a Lancaster at Biggin which was being restored many decades ago. Bloody noisy thing inside, thought it was going to shake itself apart.
