Light plane mishap on landing Port Pirie
RobS2107 replied to Happyflyer's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
A distant photo in this report. Two hurt when light aircraft flips on landing in SA -
The blue haze was almost certainly not visible. I am pretty sure it is an artefact of stitching two adjacent images together, the ground is fine but because the aircraft moves between shots it doesn't fare as well. If you look at this (https://goo.gl/maps/gWETFPDKmm52) aircraft lifting from Runway 25 at Sydney you will notice a similar haze. If you scroll east the TWY 25 threshold you see a very distorted plane. https://goo.gl/maps/AWhXXzcfVnJ2

Aircraft Missing Near Katoomba
RobS2107 replied to Ron5335's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
The wreckage of the aircraft has been spotted, no word on the pilot. http://www.9news.com.au/national/2016/02/28/06/29/search-for-missing-pilot-and-light-aircraft-over-the-blue-mountains -
Looks work in preparation for relocation of CFS fixed wing aircraft from Woodside to Brukunga. http://www.powerfmsa.com.au/news/local-news/47985-relocation-of-fire-fighting-aircraft-base

The report also mentions the operator uses both 10L and 20L dipsticks, there is a possibility it was dipped with a 10L stick and calculated as 20L hence only about 55L fuel. The same aircraft was involved in a fuel starvation accident in 2011 where the investigation found that there was probably more than one dipstick in use.
