Have owned one for 36 years nearly 3000 hrs and it still has not learnt how to landOr good for going from A to B as long as A and B are not far apart You can land them slow as long as YOU aren't too slow. When I first flew them nobody else wanted to, so they were the cheapest thing to get hours up on, and in those circumstances speed doesn't matter a lot. Someone at Bankstown put a fairly big "Flat" motor in one and it would exceed Vne in level flight and leave the ground nicely. You have to make sure you don't overcapitalise them, but I have seen some very nice restorations. NevMick

Auster the best pointA to point A aeroplane ever builtThe old girl has a massive 37ft wing span Franko, a bit of a bitch in the flare with gusting winds. -
Unsure of the two tests you have mentioned there but haven't been told to do them as of yet. And as good as a result that would be Nev i would be rather pissed off.Story so far,
30/11 told i had been accepted into course starting 28/6/13.
6/12/12 told that course wasnt running and have to join 28/1/13.
18/12 routine medical shows ecg issue.
21/12 told ill need to go away to see a cardiologist (means quitting job 5 weeks early and 7.5k short)
25/12 fly out
So now i will be going broke and most probably in debt instead of a nice lil safety buffer.
its only money brink the CX4 project with you for stress relief one flying two being built within 20 minutes of YPPF

the known fact comes from the fact i signed the preflight inspectionIf you are going to quote known facts I would like to know where you are geting them. They certainly havn't shown up on my computer. maybe the problem is that I am not psychicMick

again we jump to conclusions this engine was built by someone other than jabiru (known fact)Didn't see the earlier posts, in fact going back to the start I still cant see them. But that would explain it.It must be about ten years since I first heard of the problem.Mick

trueThere seems to be an argument that if you have a 24 registered aircraft then you cannot re register it as a 19. Can anyone tell me if this is true. -

the one problem with this site is all the opinions being aired by people who later openly admit they dont know /heard it from some one elseI haven't looked up the differences and only going by what I had heard...all the promotion was on a medical like a car license so I am obviously not up with the finer detail of it...sorryplease get the facts before posting so as to maintain the integrity of this forum

bulk strip equates to overhaul refer jab maintenance manual 10 &25 hr checks required--- specifically refers to induction and exhaust mountings section 5:3 and 5:4Andy. No the entire aircraft went back to them post accident. Sent it back with clean bill of health.Removal of the top cowl is not part of an ordinary daily. We are just a bit anal about it but don't do it everytime. At least once a weekend is normal for us. We never remove the bottom cowl. That requires dissambling the intake hose etc which is again, something only a l2 can do.Mick

the flex boom altronics were prone to this problem on different radios the wire booms did not suffer the problem we sent many back to altronics in my time as an avionics techI have a new Microair Rev Q M760 transceiver and 2 Altronics headsets. When the old headst (C9073) is on transmit it is fine. When the new (C9075) is on transmit a loud high pitched tone drowns out the transmission. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?never found the answer

tank was made to fit space avaliable same design as plans made from aluminium and welded the aircraft was built totaly from the plans with very few deviations the main change was the conopy lathing mine can be flown with ganopy open about 3 inches by the time you need a canopy we should be making them in S.A.Cheers Mick! might try and get a few photos off you of the tank if i could? Also did you make you spar or buy it?Mick

And there is a heap more that i havent posted as well, Just more times where i have chased them up. My question is how long would it take to get prefab parts if i chose to use them.... I want to stick with the all alloy idea as ive done allot of research into this build and Tooled up for this as well so i see it better to keep with a similar idea. Designs would be... Teenie 2, Thatcher CX4, or Zenith 601... And one last one of the sonari 2Im in a few minds. The CX4 is closest matching tto the overall goal to the HBird i think, The Teenie would be closer to the original economic goal, And, The 601 was going to be the second build if i made it through the first OK, So i think i need to do more research into these three but would take any advice

fully plans built approx 2 1/2 years i did not keep a record of hours but was only worked on as a part time project
airframe less engine / prop /instuments /avionics approx $10,000

Thanks for the update Mick. Mind if I ask how many hours you put into the build? And was it plans build or did you buy any prefab stuff? ie. wing spar..Sounds like you've got all the 'bells and whistles'. I've run the materials list through Aircraft Spruce and Wicks and there is a fair amount of difference between the two. But, they are miles away from local Aus prices.... Anyone know why al extrusion costs so damn much in this country??
More than happy to purchase plans from David himself and agree he is on to a good thing here. I just thought I'd see if anyone had bought a set and decided not to build - give them an opportunity to recoup their outlay too.
Cheers
Alex

I am using 80 hp limbach 2litre (certified VW) Arrow 54 x 46 prop 6hrs flown allin cct area so performance figures not real accurate (goes Quick)
all extrusions ,chrome moly ,tubing assorted hardware from Wicks other bits from Spruce and Great planes all great to deal with Considerable savings over AU prices
even with frieght all sheets from Airport metals Melbourne
Please purchase plans direct from David he deserves a little reward for producing them plus he is a great bloke always ready to answer emails or telephone calls
