Hey turboplanner, yeh spoke to Jim Kuthill (cfi on thrusters at benalla) all 3 socks are different mateirial and different size,s ,2 are free and 1 on bearings...so drag/wieght etc.. 100% issueFantastic success story flyerme, you're a hero!I was wondering how you were going and spent an hour yesterday trying to find the friggin thread. What size are the wind socks?
Are they all the same?
Do they have bearings for free rotation?
Above a few knots they should both be facing the same way, so I'm thinking the problem is drag.
so conclusion......just have 1 sock...lmfao damn my obsession with sowing up windsocks.......
thanks to all ,and now relaxed and back soloing, Im in heaven...
.whats that ? install a radio? did you not hear me? ..im in heaven...ahhh the serenity and no "thruster 0404 are you coming down now you need to take the bin out...and ya son needs changing"
take care my good people and Ill see you in the air sometime.

Thanks Pud, had my best mate at the end of the runway with a cattle prod...lol yeh all happy and the paranoier and anxiety all gone....I really love my thruster and the ground loop factor! non exsistant..what a beautifull little planeCongratulations flyerme, awonderful feeling flying your own Thruster eh? I think we get a bit paranoid about wind direction and speed when first taking a new, unfamiliar aircraft for a flight - especially a Thruster which can be a handful and prone to groundloop if you aren't 'on it'. When I took my Thruster to her new home on my mate's farm at "Wirraway" North Gabbin the wind was from the West around 5kts. I landed on 28 which has a downhill component, then took off on 28 to do some familiarisation of the area. I landed on 10, 24 and 28 - left out 06 for no other reason than I wanted to land and have a talk:smile: Always took off on 28 though to take advantage of the head wind and downhill component.Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that once you are familiar with your Thruster, light winds shouldn't be any problem at all, and varying wind direction indications from different wind socks should be no cause for concern in such light wind conditions.Pud

OK,at 6:30am on 6/1/12 the wind on all 3 socks was blowing a southerly at a steady 2-3 knotts. I took off and turned south only to descover accuall wind was nth at 7-8 knotts. at 100 ft(climb out very shallow, followed by 30 Deg right ailron downwind(7-8knt x -wind) ,bass leg had me hovering ). my thruster performed perfectly with no apperent weather cocking on final just a slight drift and at around 200 ft she tracked strieght to a perfect greased wheeler......hmm.. me love me new birdy.... only the slightest turbulance on finnal over next doors header...smooth as a button

already come back form benalla doing my time is jims thruster and last flight we encouted severe wind layers.. wind sock was dead and at 50 ft I hit 1 layer and 200 ft another in other direction and so forth.
coming in to land the same thing, and still a dead wind sock...that said my thruster was test flown and plane handels very different compared to its two seat brother and was told to fly it first in no wind or under 3knott head wind...so mt question remains if 1 wind sock says per fect 1 knott head wind due nth and the other 300 mtrs away and 5 ft taller and lighter wieght reads 1 knott cross wind est is this s ign of wind layers? of the differwns in sock wieght lenght hight etc..... ps have a new stip

thanks to PUD , Steve Vette and the Tony Hayes,"Thruster single seat owner and I.D manual" and OZZI ,im starting to get some usefull info.
Here's what it appears to be
: Thruster T83 ehf un-finished ( ok origanally a T83)
un-finished because the ailrons were never converted to flaparons(flaparon being the"F" in ehf)
EH being enclosed house.
also the rear boom strutts have been changed with T85 strutts(moved to back of cockpit)
also should note the correct wing span as mesured is accaully 29.6 ft as apposed to my old owner manual stating 29.5 ft..
its more likly a copy but slightly enhanced version of the first and presumed only T83 ehf..
enhanced because the doors and winscreen are a fair bit more streamline ,they do not pertrude if looking from the front ,you can barely see them at all.
I would still like to know the history on this but can't trace the reg number = 10 - 404....who retrofitted it? how many hands has it passed threw?why was the boom replaced and the I.D not re-riveted
and mainly what is the I.D? , oviously 1 of 49 built but what number in that 49?
will still take detailed photos, hopfully tomorrow ,ill have to un tarp her (bloody sparrow shit)
thanks againall you kind folk

It seems it may have already dissaipated and spread to the far winds as Ive been chacing the info and keep coming up short.really short.
Q.Why would someone aquire somthing (from Tony ,weather it be knolage, info or a product) just to leave it in a heap to rust away so the rest of us CAN'T enjoy it?
Now if some one pays for a product its only fair to give them that product,Ive noticed a couple of you good folk had payed to re-scribe only to have the site shut down.
.Heres my problem:Not only is the TOSG shut down but tying to get the info from you know who?..well, seems to be his last priority,(or not a priority at all) and im still waiting here paitently for my return email with the model I.D and the wight and balance details..I think its pretty sad when theres all the info I need just sitting there and I have to come on here to beg for help..
I don,t mind paying for it,as I did in the end ,not much choice but to just guess the model and order the manual from Kaye Hayes(a very helpful person indeed)
right about now I recon Tony may be turnning in his grave..R.I.P you wonderfull man, wish they all had your passion and good will.............................
Im thinking some seriouse letters are in order cause this is wrong, does HE not relize what Tony went threw to obtain such info? so very very wrong and sad
Tony left us a legacy so lets restore whats rightfully ours.................

Cant some one else take over the TOSG? get it running again?
I'll raise my hand.

Ill take some more pics in detail of the engine mount the reduction drive etc..Hi,It looks like a late '83. Although there were so many changes as they went along. They were built in batches of 5 to 8 and each batch had refinements. Then a lot of the early ones were upgraded to things like larger diameter lift struts heavier compression tubes in the wings etc. I'd like to see a photo of the engine mount. The original fuel tank was just a 20lt plastic drum.I preferred the Robyn 440 over the Rotax engines that we also used a little later. If the reduction drive is the original it was made up by Lewis Pulleys in Alexandria Sydney. The shaft must be the later version as the early ones snapped at the bearing support. The original prop was a 2 blade wooden Catto. There were also several different winspans.
Tony and I spent many hours going over what knowledge i have on these. All changes were documented by Brian Fimmell and each aircraft had it's production sheet listing the specs., then David Belton later destroyed all the documentation. I am surprised that Tony was able to sort them all out. Good chance that this was built at the Caringbah factory not at the Kirrawee site. So Steve Cohen was probably still involved. if the stainless fittings are original and not the newer type that Tony had made i would keep checking them carefully espesially the wing strut fittings. I never did like the way they were designed and constructed.
Hope this is a bit of a help.

Hey Pud,Yeh I didnt want to say Bob but, what you say about priority makes a lot of sence...I spoke to Bob but apperently his email is having trouble so his not sure when he will look at my email.
also just spoke to Kaye and decided to go ahead with the order for the T83 manual...She is Quite accwainted on the subject and very Helpful.
in regaurds to Steve ,after an un-impessed comment made to me by ..hmmmmm , well lets just say Im reluctent to start a conversation..(I am a little shy and introverted already without being made to feel unconfortable). comment being" ah you have a thruster,,your oviously rich, when I can read youre email Im sure I can tell you everything you need to know ,itll cost you around a $1000".. now was he seriouse ??I guess this was proberbly ment to be funny? ( I really wish i could have called Tony),but I make no miss conception when I say I AM A HONEST PENNYLESS FLYER..I am a carrer(pension)and have had to use smarts and some good old luck (not dollars) to get my dream off the ground. I believe if you own the 1 plane from the early 80's you aint rich!!!! your like me a dreamer and a believer.determination is worth more than the dollar......
on that note
take it easy and hope to hear soon

Can anyone help I.D my beast? what Model is this ? Ive tried every where but no go.. waiting to hear from the fellow who took over from Tony but not looking to promising!! I was told its most likely a one of kind modified T83EH(enclosed house)?
I bought it as a T83 and the but old owner had no other info and wasnt 100% on the model.
theres No I.D as it most peoberbly had the boom replaced (as theres no rivet holes for the I.D badge.)
as you can see it has been modified at some stage . mods are fully enclosed cockpit long rang 70-80 ltr tank with aerodynamic fairing and larger wheels and spatts.
ok ,it has the following specs
single seat
engine Robin FUJI 44 ec 50 hp(440cc)
wing span 29.5 ft
area 150sq ft
length18.5 ft
it has 18 top wing ribs
NO bottom Batons just the colaspable frame.
has 2 wing strutts either side with 1 wire support (innermost)
the pod has a join down the centre (halves)with an (origanally black )seal joining the halves(looks like a car seal of some sort).
any info would really be appreciated.

Wow thats some tuff terrain...nothing like man power no matter how many the hands..impressive... It may be hard work ,but the end result will be very satisfiying knowing I did this with not much more than my 2 hands...Achievment is grand and prepares you for the next challege, what ever it should be...................take it easy and thanks every one for your kind words, may the air support your wings each and every flight and I pastoe good fortune to each and evey one of you...
Excellent work flyerme! Your hand work reminds me when I was in PNG helping to built an airstrip... all by hand, @ 6000ft in the mountains. Except there were a few hundred people, four wheel barrows, some canvas bags, a dozen shovels, and a heap of hand made picks made from timber. -
I should mention that bunyip was 1 of 2 I owned.I also had a later model with larger pod and bigger rotax(elactric start) they were owned by a cattle farmer and were used up north for mustering..I lernt to fly in the better of the two(thats another storey) and after some time and damage, she 2 became inoperable, trying to find a pic of the second bunyip,it was blue ,red and white (the origanal coulor I believe).Ha Ha funny that was mine!!!I was the who sold that old girl.....I was the second owner and never flew it past a few bunny hops as It was not airworthy..they do have a connection with the tyro both built at goolwa ..theres only three left for good reason...the tail fell off if not re-bracketed and the wings constanly tore rivetsand cracked, and the frame pod mount cracked etc....ahh glad for my new thruster.. -
Thanks David, Sherlock is 30kms sth/est of Tailembend,or 50 mins drive sth/est of Murray Bridge(on the Mallee hwy) take it easy .Great job buddy,Where exactly is Sherlock SA? I have a son on the Eyre Peninsular.David

cool let me know when ya vid is done...Well flyerme, you've certainly got some motivation there and all power (muscle?) to you:big_grin: It looks like the beginnings of an excellent airfield there; just what your Thruster needs eh?All my Thruster landings have been on a sealed runway Nev, so I'm looking forward to the dirt strip at North Gabbin in a few weeks. The sealed runway does appear to be unforgiving and let's you know when you haven't got everything just right - as you'll see in the new video I'm currently working on.Pud

put some pics of the runway upHi Flyerme, I've never lost tail control even at very low speed on the ground so I don't think what you describe is typical of thrusters. I suspect it's unfamiliaraircraft that is the problem. Thrusters have little querky responses that can catch you off guard if your not on the ball. Having said that once your've mastered it you never need to think of it again. It would be better for you if you had someone show you these things with a couple of check flights. When I did my conversion for tail wheel in a thruster [ because I own one] my instructor let me go on my merry way until he needed to take over. Without him both our first experiences would have been the same. From there with some help it was quick and easy to pick up and it does become second nature. Good luck. -
put some pics up of the runway for you10/10 for your effort flyerme! Sure there isn't a neighbour with a 3PL grader blade with a wheel?
