Hey Aero28,your plane looks good ,now the kwaka440 38 hp, may be a lil under powered, although your plane looks slippery.my thruster ways empty 192kg and runs a robin 50hp also has the single surface wing creating a lot of drag but has plenty of power, off the ground in under 100meters easy,..my supercat(when it goes)runs a rotax 44739hp and has loads of power, the kwaka's a good ol engine(under rated) alot like the robin which has never let me down, but the rotax is in a hole new level if you can get em to run..lol Hiya Fellas, Gotta join in this thread about the lighter side of flying. I have just finished the 95.10 in the pic , it has a Kawasaki 440 with a 5 belt drive on it but not enough power to lift off. It weighs 156 kg's empty. Do you think the Kwaka has enough pull to do the job. How heavy is your thruster?Cheers..what prop have you got on? more importantly what max revs you pulling?is the engine fresh?or done some time?take it easy keep me posted

Hi peter, anytime, would love to check out you chute also,,. Geelong! I grew up in Rosebud(vic) and my Pa,grew up at williams town....if I can sort out the superca(as still not going,we think its the modified exhaust)I was hoping to join a flight late this year flying the coast from warnabul ,...any way did 2 hours in the thruster yesterday, longest Ive stayed up there in her,..she.s handleing awesome,,and with the new engine the climb is phenomanal...take it easyHey Flyerme, would love to take a (road) trip over to you and check out your new strip with the 'chute one day. Be good to check out the Supercat and Thruster as wellPeter -
also ment to mention to add wieght to a blade (or repir chips etc) use super glue and bi-carb soda (baking powder) its the same wieght and stength as plastic/carbon fibre, aso if need a lot of wight use paint..

STILL no GO? just purchaced another 447 near new and put it in,So new engine and carbie also new prop new fuel and still same prob diconnected all electrics no change only leaves 1 thing thats origanal(the only thing I havn' changed) the exhaust system..well turns out some hillbille somwhere along the way decided it would look nice undernieth and so cut the power chamber and added a piece of car exhaust did away with the elbow ..so its now a 2 piece system thats longer than origanal...Not a smart thing to do as the rotax requires an exact distance as it is a TUNED pipe,,so now looking fro an exhaust!!! anyone have an exhaust floating about for the rotax 377,477,503 need elbow and power pipe(exspansion chamber).

Now that would be a real treat, never seen one other than on a screen,,,shouldn,t have any probs with the strip... and just got back from leeton NSW picked up my new x2 447's for my supercat and the old quicksilver..can,t wait to fit the new rotax in and see if the supercat runs,if have the same issue it can only be the prop or fuel delivery..anyway bung it tomorrow..I reckon that our illustrious RaaUs rep Ed Herring should visit you in his Powerered Parachute after all to be a good rep he needs to visit the members personally.Alan Marriette. -
had the grader out today ,so run way is graded and rolled (rocks removed) so all you nosey guys and gals,so feel free to put all 3 on the dirt now without any problems..oh except for the length..320mtrs...take it easy and still waiting for the first aircraft to land !!!!! got the kettle brewing........... where are all you low performance guys and gals?who dat? a beautifull flybye in a jabi monday, just skimming the dirt..awesome,,not sure how a nose wheel would handle at the moment (few rocks),will lay some new dirt in next few weeks but all you tail draggers No worries,,heres a vid of me flying the Thruster to Peake and landing on my new runway at Pa's1 way in 1 way out and between trees 240 meters grass easy but lil bounce or 2.lol.....real spot landing... -
feel free to stop bye for a lil hanger chat..take it easyHowdy flyerme, driven past your property at least half a dozen times so far this year (latest was yesterday at some very late hour in a receding thunderstorm) but not ventured that way above ground level yet.... -
awesome love your work.........yeh my thruster's pretty old school!! still has the origanal single surface wings, which keep its take off short and airspeed slow,,and makes control very dosile,,love it..

why thankyou sir..take it easyHi Flyerme you must be a footy player to put that aircraft through those goal posts. Well done.Alan. -
hey Richo, what is the old beast? im picking up an old quick silver single seat in the next few weeks will be my next project..at this stage thinking may have to sell my trusty thrusty to pay for the new planes(supercat & quicksilver) but will be hard to part with the pride of my fleet(and the most interesting) will see if I can pick up some extra work in hope to hang on to my beloved broom stick but if not she will be very reluctanly on the market....yep ya really get attatched to these thrusters. ..lolReckon that might have been Crommelins... I seem to remember getting a new CDI unit from them about 12-13 years ago. Some research I did sometime ago also led me to US snowmobiles... a Polaris or something was a Robin derivative as a source of new barrels and pistons.Hey FlyerMe I'll have to look you up sometime for a chinwag. I am building a Sonex which is keeping me busy, and not FLYING! Hence the idea of getting tho old beast runnning again.
I reckon I might have spoken to the Loxton fella bout his Robin at Truro.. picking up a near new Robin with 17 hours, thats gold!
Cheers
Richo

45-50 knotts cruise low and slow, built for mustering.. -
Hey Richo, your not far from here!! blew the cylinder gaskets in this video (you can't tell) but fuel mix seeping out the sides and slight poping....Lucky my mate dropped off a new robin (only done 17 hours from new and well stored) so I put it on yesturday, fired up very easy and runs nice, just waiting on the weather... theres a fellar on here willing to part with an old robin(don't now how good it is?) he wants a couple of hunj for it but its been sitting in his shed for 10 years,,I think his in loxton? I can find his number if interested..there is still a few robins kicking about just have to hind em... what you need?whats your 95-10? welcome to come check out my lil thrusty any time ,or just for hanger chatt and cuppa's...for the matter anyone else keen,,call Tim 08 85743031 Sherlock(15 mins from tailembend...:),take it easy P.S both my robins are 30 years also ,,they don,t build em like they used too,,,hahah proberbly a good reason...lmfaoPretty cool! I have a Robin powered 95-10 homebuilt that I haven't flown for 5 years.. you've inspired me to think about getting it airworthy again.Have you been able to get spare parts for the Robin, mine's nearly 30 years old!!Cheers

Thanks Peter ,had my flying instuctor here yesturday and I put it up in a long circuit, was 5.5knott south but smooth..took it up this mourning 6.6knotss southerly, and rough as guts, but she was very responsive and I mushed her threw the extreme sink and turbulance for a lovely landing,,,handeling awesome and that reliable ROBIN never skips a beat...I ve put a new Runway at my Pa.s proprty in peak(nth side of hwy est side of town, running est west,,now this is a challege !!!!!!! its 1 way in 1 way out as a powerline is at 1 end its only 260meters fence each end with the approch(est end) at start of runway will be between 2 40ft gumtrees with a gap of 85 ft, the Thruster should drop in their easy enough given perfect weather,, ,whats that perfect weather? ha ha as if...Well done Flyerme! Congratulations! All safely done too - most importantly.Peter- 1

Update: put the a new Tested carbie on and it made no difference still rough..,so then Jim Cuthill (CFI "Falcon hawk" benalla) adjusted the pitch from the origanal 10deg setting to 4 deg and she ran beautifull !!! we both ran a series of taxi tests, Jim doing some small skims,Unfortunatly twas blowin a gail,so no real flight test but engine didn,t skip a beat all temps now perfect no roughness at idle or when backing off and shes now pulling 6200rpm instead of the initial 5800rpm,..so will take her up in the next couple of days ..will sit around 2000 in my training area( just incase I can glide back to my strip...hopefully..lol) and keep her up for 1/2-1 hour in cruise and see hoe she goes?

Thanks TonyOn ya Tim. -
thank youcongratulations -
After much work and adjustment..........................
every now and again my balls retract....as I sat at the start of my runway I became nervy and sat a good 5mins then out of nowhere my balls dropped I hit the throttle and became airborne..wahoo I fixed my lilplane,,she flies beautifully, very impressed concidering how rough it was..just a quick curcuit and back on the ground..awesome.
.stick just sat centered. stick very stiff but very sensitive.....did not need anymore than a 1/2 an inch either side compareed to a foot either side pushing into my leg...work done: all aileron controls re bushed and tightened,Ailerons supports fibreglassed All skins re-tightened,stick control rod bushed and tightened, wing strutt ends to leading and trailing edge bracketts shimed and tightend ,flew streight with stick centered, and turbulance was no match for the trusty thrusty....very impressed with its handling Now...it may even make the bridge now ....

you would be correct, the only recorded fatelity in a thruster was a twin seater that had the wing attachment brackets Fail..they failed because the aircraft had had 2 minnor crashes prior and bent them and the owner just bent them back to shape and of coarse weekend them..these were the seem welded ones and the AD says to replace these with the spot welded ones,,anyway back to my beast, the centre gap cover skin is sowne one side and valcro the other,I had another piece of valcro made up in the begining to keep the cover tight and secure,so definatly not prob...I suspect it will handle better now with all the worn bits taken care of and the adjustment made to the ailerons ,also removed the aileron skin tension cords and replced with zip ties which made the skins about 10% tighter.it feels different all ready,,,, before the stick was sort of bouncy rather than solid and now feels tight and smooth...and always check ALL ss brackets..their shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also single seat wing box 's must be replaced..mild steel will do the trick. If I remember corectly there was an AD out years ago to inspect all SS wing brackets before every flight. But back to your problems, if you don't find anything wrong with the mechanism, have a good look at the piece of skin which covers the gap between the two wings. I do not know the single seater, but if that skin was loose or defective in any way it could affect the handling of the two seater. -
these are the newer brackets that are spot welded and not seem welded as the ones that faiedl ,they have been replaced, but I agree and have done (made up safety cable prevously) also tail has extra safety wires holding it to the boom should the tiny thin stainless toungues that are welded one side break .the tail will still be held in place...safety first.....keen to see how she performs this time as long as the weather has no suprises???? Ive been thinking about its roll performance and can best describe it as if it were attatched to a bunggy cord...you move the stick to say the left then wait for the plane to slowly bank then move the stick to the right fully and ever so slowly she rolls back level..I never liked those strut wing attach brackets that are made of stainless. If i had a Thruster of any type today i would make up some safety straps using SS tangs and short cable and fit one end to a strut fitting bolt and the other to the wing strut attachment bolt. That way if the bracket failed like they have done previously the strut will still stay near where it should be until you can land.
