  1. Can you legally fit a single joystick to a Jab170 24 registered instead of the U shaped joystick?

Yes you can. However it needs to be one supplied by Jabiru and approved by them. I am sure you will be able to purchase one from them and then have it fitted by a level 2 ( Mick)

  2. Fantastic program... In the words of Molly Melrum........Do Youself A Favour! Looks like it may soon be CASA approved for flight planning and navigation.... I went to the Oz Runways training forum at Natfly... I think that 80% of the pilots at the airfield attended and most were holding an IPad with Oz Runways installed. Also great to have a local product with local support made here in good old OZ....

  3. I can't see why not! I have had people try to drive my car from the back seat LOL... Great photo of the Cub.. Who the heck is that rough looking bloke leaning against it? Dosn't look anything like my Father at all. That bloke looks like he just flew out of the jungle with Sylvester Stallone...

  4. Ok...so this oldie is trying to join the 21st century and has purchased an iPhone to compliment her iPad. Ozrunways is loaded on both.I also have a laptop which currently connects to the Internet using a next G wireless dongle.

My question is "How do I use my iPad, which has heaps of data allowance on it, to connect the laptop to the Internet so I can cancel the wireless thingy subscription?"

    Thanks

    Kaz

Hi Kazz.... This is called a WiFi hotspot. You make the IPad the hotspot and then any other computer, iPad, iPhone etc can connect to the Internet via you iPad.....

Here is the catch.... You can only do it with the new IPad 3... The older iPads are not able to do it unless you jailbreak the... Jail breaking is a hack to the iPad that allows it to do all sorts off good things.. You can lookup jailbreaking on Google, but you would need some computer knowledge to do it... Hope this helps and have a look as you might fully understand and it will allow you to do what you want.... Saves money too

  5. No worries Ian fully understood. I would just like to put as much of my purchases through you as is possible if the price is right. I am a great believer in supporting the people that are doing their best to support me.

I can help you with the camera and I know you will want to support me as I try to help you. I will purchase 2 of them and sell you yours for twice the price. That way I get mine for free and you can feel good that you supported me... Let me know what you think!

Sorry Ian.. I think I may have cut your lunch LOL

  6. Tomo got one for around $10k... Try the classifieds section (and stay away from eBay)

Hey what's wrong with E-bay.. I have a great trike and it's on E-bay? The best advice is get some assistance from and instructor or another pilot that will help you make a good choice. Go into your news agent and purchase the Sports Flyer mag as the have aircraft for sale in that. Look on this site and look for items on E-Bay that are classified adds rather than auctions. That way you can call them, ask questions and even go look at it..

    Good luck with you hunting

  7. Apparently I may have offended some of the Jabiru fraternity, that was not my intention. I copied from the Yahoo 7 site, none of it are my own words except the thread title.Regards Bill

No ya Silly Billy no one is offended at all 114_ban_me_please.gif.0d7635a5d304fa7bdaef6367a02d1a75.gif just did not think it was a Jabiru... might be one of those death darts people fly..... oh hang on I own one of them myself 111_oops.gif.41a64bb245dc25cbc7efb50b743e8a29.gif I think you do too.... might have been a space ship... yep thats what it was.. be interesting to know what it was and looks like Bob found a picture... I could not find any images at all. good news that the pilot was not hurt in any way, thats the best news of all

  8. Hello and welcome to the briefing Room... Great that you have flow in... Lots of good people on this forum and a few nut jobs as well. We all love flying as you do.. So great you have joined us..

  9. I have looked at several news reports and only one...The ABC has tried to put a type to the aircraft.... Bit early to say really what it was.... But being that so many people own such a great aircraft it is fair to say it might be a Jabiru. So many of us own them... I would like to know about a single seat Jabiru? Might be some sort of custom build..... Would be good to have a single seat ver... I think lots would buy them....

  10. Just as well you have lots of friends at the airfield.... Do you have any idea how much it cost us to pay off your CFI? Why do you think I was wearing that silly hat with the windsock on top when you landed? I passed that thing around about ten times until I thought I had enough to pay him off. Now all I have to do is find you a place in a hangar so we can get you plane locked away to keep the rest of us safe LOL....

Good on ya and a job well done. Lots of time and effort is put into getting your wings, and now you have them. Fly Safe and enjoy... You can now joint the rest of us Jabiru owners (Sky Nits) on some airfield invasions.

  11. Maybe some are a little confused as to the running on the GPS. I have an iPad 3 3G (4G???)16GB. I turn off the "Mobile Data" before departure as this kills the phone and 3G signals. It allows the GPS to operate without the assistance of 3G. I have had no problems doing this. Don't be under the impression that you need to be within 3G coverage or tethered to a wifi network for the GPS to function.

That is totally correct Ryan. The 3G has nothing really to do with the GPS. 3G just allows you to see the live weather and live NOTAMS. This can be done by tethering to a phone,,, 3G just means Internet...... However after saying that 3G will allow for faster satellite acquisition when you turn on you iPad and use GPS. this is helpfully when you turn on more than 100 km from you last point of Turing off. 3G will tell the iPad your rough location based on cellular tower triangulation. This then helps the GPS understand satellite locations without scanning for them. This allows for faster locking of the 12 - 14 sats the iPad or external GPS locks onto... This as stated in my last post is called assisted GPS... Not totally needed as you say, but usefull at times... Having Internet via tether or 3G is great with the live weather radar running in OZrunways..... Love that program Thanks Bazz..... Gotta be nice to him as he is in my brother in laws hangar and so am I at the moment.... My hangar is full at the moment until my trike sells and a renters hangar is built....... We should have an OzRunways tips and tricks section.... Very popular program.....

  12. Not sure I understand your comment Bob but re-reading my post gave me a laugh. Seems the iPad spell check wants to change words to different things like teapot...???? What the! Must go back and look at my posts before posting them. I think shafs64 understood what I was explaining... It's simply more cost effective way of doing the same thing..

    All good fun

  13. Got one quote without concrete floor. 24k. I can't afford that.

Have you spoken to whatever his names... Jabiru SK guy at Gawler about the hangar his is moving out of? What about his new hangar,, is there a space in that one? I know you have put a notice on the board but going around and talking to people and visit them when you see hangar doors open is your best bet... Often people will give spaces to people they know rather than call Someone from a notice they know nothing about.... You need to walk and talk... I will ask a few people I know for you as we'll.... You need to stay at Gawler as all the good people hang out thier..... And some other types as well LOL

  14. My IPad lasts at least 4 hours when using OzRunways . By then we have usually done enough " stick hours " for a couple of oldies and recharge that night . It is not necessary to have your WiFi + 3G IPad connected to an ..... " additional phone account " , as it still has a GPS , it just works a bit faster when connected to the 3G network ! Bob

Sorry Bob but that's not the case in a Wi Fi only IPad. It does not have 3G nore does it have a GPS. Tis is the reason for my advice to teacher to a phone. If you have a 3G iPhone (seems you do) then yes you have a GPS and you will move on the OzRunways map. A WiFi iPad will not do this (no GPS).... The reason we teapot her to a phone or use 3G has little to do with navigation... It allows us to get Internet for live weather, NOTAMS and map download if we did no do it before departing. Internet or 3G will give us faster Gps at start up only as it allows the IPad to get a rough location of where you are using phone towers. It then knows satellite locations based on that information and will speed up satellite lock ins.. This is what is called assisted GPS.. There has been lots of misunderstanding for some reason in regards to how iPads and thier Gps and network options are... This subject has been covered at some of the OzRunways Seminars and can be read about on thier website... I hope this info is helpful to others that are looking at an IPad option. Several options a greatly different price points. For me I mainly wanted an IPad for OzRunways so my above option was the most cost effective way of doing what is need....

    Regards

  15. I am going to put my tight arse point on this one.... If you are wanting to save some money and are getting an iPad for your flying then this is what I did......

Purchase a second hand IPad 1 WiFi only (no 3G) on E-bay for about $250. Then purchase an external GPS for the iPad from $45 to $100 ,, I purchased the Tom Tom at $45. I then use my phone or IPhone and tether it to my iPad for live Internet on my current phone plan.. All works really really well for under $300.. Also keep in mind that having a separate GPS will allow you iPad to last a lot longer on its batts.....

If you purchase an IPad with 3G and WiFi you will need an additional phone account for your iPad (more cost). If you choose to use a pre paid plan the Internet is charged at a really really high rate. The IPad will cost lots more and really do nothing better in terms of running OzRunways.. Oh and the batter will go flat in no time and you will need to always run it from power in the plane...

I get 12 hours running between charges on my external GPS and the iPad runs all day just with WiFi running to talk to my phones Internet. As my phone is an IPhone I also have a copy of OzRunways running in that also as a backup...

I also run a Garmin GPS196 as a third backup just in case my compass gets James and I am not able to use the old outdated method of Navigation.......Oh look out here come the rocks and stones LOL

  16. Every time I read the title of this thread, I wonder what the discussion about "Pole-ish" might be.....polish food perhaps? Now that I have looked, I realise that there is nothing edible here :-(

oh your a silly sausage Shane....102_wasnt_me.gif.b4992218d6a9d117d3ea68a818d37d57.gif

  17. I occasionally have same problem. You need to reset the iPadReset iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. This does not effect any data or apps you Might have installed.

It's worth downloading the iPad user guide from the apple site and putting into iBooks

This action will put it in DFO mode.. best to just hold down the Sleep /Wake button and restart the system... Compulsion has got a Jailbroken system so doing updates or placing it in DFO mode will remove his Jailbreak and software..... Not a good idea for that to happen... if you wish to update the firmware you will need to re-jailbreak your unit and I would not advise that if you don't know how to re-jailbreak it... Happy to help you next time we meet up at the airfield.. For those that don't know what Jailbreaking is can do a Google... It really allows you do things that Apple did not allow you too or locked you out of.., Things like getting Flash on web pages and using non Apple Certified assesories like Bluetooth GPS that don't cost $100... Oh yes and lots of free and low cost software... All sorts of cool things like using a normal non Apple mouse on your ipad and and External Keyboard and the list goes on and on... Makes and Apple more like a bowl of fruit...

  18. My iPad keeps going stupid on this site. My avatar changes and the screen shows images all over it. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

You may need to do a firmware update and then re-jailbreak it to the latest firmware 5.1.1. Also as yours is jailbroken you can use a browser called Puffin... Allows you to view flash as well and you will be able to use the smiles if you wish on this site...

  19. Don't worry you will do just fine. All of your flying buddies will be there to give you support. We will be sitting on the obs platform with a hot coffee and score cards LOL. Just think of it as a check rather than a test... I think Truro is within your area limitation once you have done you check, so we can drop in on them and drink their coffee....... When is you check flight anyway?

  20. Sad news to learn today that Neil Armstrong has died.Truly one of the worlds greatest heros that played his part in advancing our first steps into space and brought the world together for one common moment of peace in 1969.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/26/science/space/neil-armstrong-dies-first-man-on-moon.html?_r=1&hp

What a very sad loss. A great Man that has made a great advance for all mankind. The world has really lost a great human being. I bow my head in respect..

  21. One type of white cloth tape is called "insignia cloth" and sailmakers use it to repair sails and cut letters out of it to put graphics on sails. It has a very aggressive adhesive and sticks like s**t to bunny fur. Any good sail maker will have the stuff, and from my experience, some will sell it to you for reasonable prices. It usually comes in a roll about 54" wide and the white stuff goes for about $30 odd bucks a lineal metre

Thanks Scott... The stuff I have on the jab is ver strong and it is made be TESSA. I can't find the product number and anyone who knows what it is or where to get it... Never gave sail tape a thought. It's a little thinner but very strong and Whitworths sell it. Thier is a store 1k from my home... That's a great idea as I am sure it will cost less and never goes yellow in the sun,,,,

Thanks for that. I just need to find a supplier of the prop tape. I have fond one site that sells it by the foot. Seems to be very expensive and I will need to sell the house to pay for it....

  22. I bought some Nuvite metal from Frasers Aerospace recently, they were saying apparently 'Aeroglas' will be available soon which will be a 'game changer' as they say - this is a new hydrophobic liquid glass solution. A similar US product:

Wow that looks fantastic. I bet it will be expensive for a can. I can think of some really good uses for it's application. Due to my mad sick mind I could not stop thinking about all the other applications for this......I know I have made you think now! LOL
