1. I had a good friend of mine pass away some years ago. His family wanted me to have his hangar and I wanted to own it. I agreed to purchase it in shares with another friend.

I don't think the club would let me keep one of thier planes in my hangar, so I just had to get my own......

No only partly true, I just like having my own stuff that I know has been taken good care of. I simply trust myself more and putting polish on my plane is far more fun than on the car

    I'm sorry I posted this king thread....068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif

gIts fair to say that we just wanted to give advice as its not a real complicated situation for a tech. I know you asked for a diagram and it seems no one has one, so assistance was given... That's what helpful forums do for you.. It does sound like most of us think you should be able to sort this out without too many problems or cost. Now we all know you are also a Tech, I recon you should have it in the bag. I will be watching for the flashing in Gawler

  3. Hello. My strobe has failed. The fault is in the control box, not the light. Pulling the box apart and a quick check with the multimeter shows the fuse link on the PCB is open circuit. Without a circuit diagram it is tricky to fault find. All the semiconductors measure as expected but that's no guarantee they're all good. So, anybody got a circuit for a "Single magnum SMART STROBE made by Kuntzleman Electronics"? Standard unit fitted to the Jabiru J170CThanks.

PS: I am an electronics technician, I know what end of the soldering iron to grab!

Are you sure it's the board? I have fixed a couple of these and found it to be the Xeon bulb that had failed. If not its most likely an IC or transistor. I would replace them all. Go to Aztronics at gepps cross as Jaycar have bugger all in odd IC's

  4. When I flew the Sierra back from Temora at Easter we were doing around 120 knots and the burn rate was on ave around 30 l per hour. At 90 knots it was around 22....

I find the fuel burn in the Sierra a bit high and costly for me, but you can cover lots more ground fast. I guess this is the balance. When you compare it to a 2200 jab flying at 90 - 100 knots at 12 a15 l per hour. I see it as a tad expensive. But gee it's a really nice plane to fly and I do like it.... If only I had the sort of money that I did not have to care about these things... Lucky my Brother in Law has one that we (family) use.....

I am happy with my SK jabiru as its all I can afford for a plastic fantastic. Great value for money... Just damm boring to look at, but cheap to run and still fast enough to go places. I did say once I would never buy one LOL..... Funny what happens when the price is really good... Those words were really hard to eat.

  5. g day all, my aircraft is a thruster 85 my problem is static in the radio headset. The radio is a hand held vertex standard vxa 150 I have a new headset rugged air RA 950 its got the works the radio uses its own battery power the antenna is seperated from the unit and is set up on the boom near the rudder the RADIO has a ANL ( engine noise limiter) Which is on but to no affect .The aircraft engine is a 503 rotax with two year old new powermate regulator WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET RID OF THE STATIC WHICH IS SO OVERPOWERING THAT I JUST TURN OFF THE RADIO. THANKS FELLAS FOR ANY HELP

OK. The fact that your ANL is not doing anything it could be your earth to the antenna. I am not sure if you are using a separate antenna or not. Try using you radio separate from your aircraft. Start the aircraft and see if you still get noise. If you do you may have a crack in the board on the earth rail from the built in antenna. I had this problem with my icom and was told about it by icom. It was caused by me removing the radio from my plane all the time. As a tech I found the crack myself and fixed it. If you are using a separate antenna please advise what it is, as I may have other advice.. Remember a good antenna with high quality cable is very important. Use rubbish and you get rubbish....

Also antenna systems need to be tuned if they are not part of the radio itself... Radio problems can be real difficult. I manufacture antenna systems for recreational aviation and have still been stumped at times myself.

    Hope this helps

  6. With the huge growth in tattoos and everybody wanting to look like a ganster or thug or bad-ass-bikie these days it will still be hard to pick you out. Having said that, two of my favorite sayings are "you cannot judge a book by its cover" and "there is often wisdom under a shabby cloak".

Thanks for that... We do have some really good people at Gawler, and over the past few years with all the changes (highway works) we have had to all come together to save our airfield. It has been the one time that no matter your financial profile, age or looks, each person formed an important part in our future..

I have found that those that have little or choose to be different are often the most interesting people to be around. They often inspire me to think differently and to look and value who I am and what I do.....Very deep really!

Anyway time to get my bits together for some fine tuning of my Jab tomorrow. Still waiting for the reg to arrive so I can give it it's first flight. Has been mailed but did not make it for this weekend,, Bugger!

  7. Thanks Slartibartfast. Great name. One of my favourite books. Thanks for all your help. I don't know about you but I am not rich nor do I know much about most aircraft. Yes I want to buy a plane of my own but I want to be able to make an informed decision when I do. I flew in a FK9 on the weekend. Great plane and very expensive but I found I would have huge issues because 1 the seats are rated at 100 kg and I weigh 114 kg, plus I felt like a tuna trying to fit into a sardine can. I went down to Aldinga to try a Sports Star only to be told that the plane is only rated to a max pilot of 100kg. Unfortunately there are issues I have to deal with and any plane will eventually come down to a compromise between dream and reality. I really enjoy flying the Jab 170 but I like the idea of a low wing after flying Gliders. And before anyone states the obvious yes I am working on loosing weight, but my shoulders won't get any narrower. I am happy to keep shopping until the right plane comes along and I assure of one thing there won't be any shortage of planes for sale in this economy.Guernsey are you at Gawler? If so I would love to be able to have a look at your aircraft if that was possible one weekend. Hopefully I am flying Friday afternoon.

I appreciate the wealth of knowledge available on this site and the help and generosity of the users. I hope one day I know enough to be able to help someone in return. Another good film. Pay It Forward

My plane is in the same hangar as the Morgan at the moment. It's a family use aircraft, but as you know I have just finished a Jabiru. I have my own hangar at Gawler and I have a trike in it along with 4 others. If you look in the second row and see the hangar with all trikes in it you will find me. I would be happy to show you the Morgan, or my Father will (Guernsey). I am looking at being at the airfield this Sat Arvo.

Indeed congrats on job well done! love the hub-caps and the polished struts.

Thanks Ian. Just thought I would mention for others where I got the wheel trims. If you do a Google for Vic Leggot Jabiru you will find his jabiru site. He sells all sorts of neat stuff. I got some nice sun visors that are tinted for flying into the sun...

The tiny tach idea is a good one. However if you really want an aircraft style tach then the VDO is a good one. You can get them from Jabiru and they set them up for you. Well you need to ask them too as mine was not setup. It is not hard to program them, but it is better if it is done for you. A few people I have spoken too when I could not get mine to work said that thier tach was rubbish and did not work... They simply expected them to work when they connected them. They had not been programmed by Jabiru. Nothing wrong at all.

I hope this helps, and this may not have been the problem Yenn had

    Cheers

  10. MardyLooks like a great aircraft.

Out of interest how many $ do you estimate it cost you to get to this stage.

I don't have the expertise to do what you have done but am interested in how much y0u saved from a factory built version - not counting for the hours involved in conpleting the task.

    FrankM

Well frank I am not a good guide for this as I got this kit unfinished from a prev owner that just never finished it. I keep getting told that I stole it from the guy! The fact is that I saved it and gave it life at last. I only purchased it due to its very low price, as I would still be flying my trike. This was a great chance for me to own a 3 axis aircraft at a price I could afford. It did however take lots of work, but I did enjoy doing it. But I think you can save up to 40% by building yourself rather than factory built. Second hand at the moment is also a great option. Money is tight and there are some great deals around.

  11. HELLOOOO. Welcome to the forum. It's a bit plane at the moment but Ian the moderator is making changes that I am sue will take off. Sorry but at time my mouth runways with me.. Good to see you have been flying a good Aussie built aircraft..

  12. IMG_8896.JPG.8d76c9b2124d4d298696f9b0728225ec.JPG Well it took lots more work than I first thought.. My Jabiru SK is now finished and ready to fly. It has passed it's sign off... Yea Yea I know its old hat as a model, but to me it's now my pride and joy, and I am really looking forward to flying it. Kit was purchased in 1998 and has sat around in someone elses hangar. It now has been given life and would have to be the only SK 2.2 that is brand new in Australia I think?

I have posted some pics, and for those that read Guernseys post, you can now see what the rego is... I was going to nick name it Jumbo 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

How funny is it going to be on inbound calling as a Jabiru 747

    Thanks for looking

  13. I just wanted to ask if others have increased thier MTOW from 430kg to higher? I know this may be old info, but I have just finished a brand new one and have just had it signed off to a higher weight. Just wanted to know from others what they operate at and how they found it effected performance etc. I really want to here from owners that have done this rather than opinions on the matter from those that have not done this.

I have an SK short fuse 2.2

Thanks for that. I did not know this was an option.. Great help... Thanks also for your help turbo.. The problem when you have a dyslexic problem is that it is not consistent. It's not at all about the learning process. I often am not able to spell words that I use every day. Just for that moment. Or I will type fast and notice that I have put letters in the wrong order even when I know it's wrong.. It's a rather difficult thing to explain and that is why they have special tests to find out if you have it.... I had the same problem working in an electronic workshop. Yet on a practical level I have no problems at all. Anyway I have some settings to change on my iPad....

  15. Ian can you help..

I am the worst speller in the world and I just had my Father (Guernsey) sending me a private message to assist me with my spelling.. He means well, and he is correct but he should remember how many hours he spent when I was young, teaching me to spell and add up. I did not work! 083_lost.gif.2c655b36c89d6cff882e0dc8f9fc5e85.gif

No he was not bad at it, he did not realise that I was partly dyslexic. But then again when I was young in the 70s I did not know he had a perm, I just thought he had been eating lots of bread crusts. 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

There have been a few posts about spelling so I think some of us need it. I can do other things well (not many) so I still think I am balanced. Arn't I?blink.gif.7ee21b69ed31ab2b1903acc52ec4cc3f.gif

I know lots of people that are very academic, but often they can’t fit a key in lock LOL But you can't help them on this forum, but you may be able to help me

  16. Nice looking aircraft but has so much nice plastic trim that it rattles in flight. Also very limited carrying weight as its weight has been taken up by flash trim.. Also a bit cramped when inside... Very nice looking unit and they fly very well.. It's one of those things you have to balance up as we are all looking for different things and have different finances... I do know that when you need parts it takes a while to get them as they are made overseas, ad we have few in Australia... The other aircraft I like is the Foxbat and we have one you can try at Gawler also.. Same problems with parts, however they are better covered here in Australia and have one of the highest load carrying in its class...

Just from my point of view..

  17. Seems like a silly question when I have just finished building one of these.. I am just doing the sign off paperwork at home to send away and I have all my Aircraft books at the Hangar... I need the the Root cord data and wing area, lenth etc.. I just thought I would jest go onto the net and get them whilst I was at home.....WRONG! can't find anything and Jabiru don't seem to have any details on thier site... Seems the old SK has just got lost in time....

Hope someone can help so that I don't have to wait till next weekend when I am back at the airfield..035_doh.gif.37538967d128bb0e6085e5fccd66c98b.gif
