Circuits, stalls, spins, the use of top and bottom rudder, a loop and a roll in an 8kcab Decathlon got the stomach churned up a bit. More to come this weekend hopefully.

1.3 Vso for current weight short final.A cautious approach speed? Case of +5 kts for mum, +5 kts for auntie perhaps? -
Does not affect TO performance just landing as the plane likes to float. If a single knot of down wind makes big enough difference to your TO performance to question the strip length, I wouldn't advise using it in the first place. -
A
Any downwind component on a 400m strip with a plane that likes fly makes a big difference.10kn at 10 degrees won't make any noticeable difference and for all intensive purposes it could be considered to be magnetic up until Xwind Dwind limits. To be honest I hardly read the wind anyways as long as it's under aircraft limits. Windsock and AWIS/ATIS is a much better source for runway selection/TO performance. That being said the theory knowledge should be there. There are a few things in the thread that really are minimum knowledge that doesn't seem to have been passed on. But that's where the forum is good as long as good info is getting passed around :) -
Makes a big difference if your main runway is 18/36 and the wind is 090 /10 true for example. If your wind sock was caught up on the pole and not giving an indication you could choose 18 if you thought it was magnetic and get a downwind component where with 36 you have the wind on the nose. It's important to get the theory right......practically for the aircraft we fly will that 10ish degrees T to M make a real difference to what we do? Also interesting that winds are provided steady with occasional gusting measurements, yet bearing never seems to vary.... Seems the wind can speed up or slow down but can't shift a few degrees one way or the other.... I guess it either doesn't change or the character limits for the short form forecasts just can't copeAndy -
Had an encounter with a red party balloon today at 2500amsl, scared the s$&@ out of me !! Suggest it was helium filled. Just goes to show how quickly things happen. I saw it approaching from port side below the wing and moving up, banked right and missed it. It was a 10-15 knot northerly and I was travelling north west. Lucky it was not a bird or another aircraft !

This is interesting.

So just RPL and aero endorsement , then I should be good to go. Best of both worlds.Flight review is not part of an aerobatic endorsement. -
So I could still continue to use my RAA certificate for my own aircraft then use the RPL for aerobatics in a certified aircraft ?Short answer, yes you can. You will have to do a flight review in a GA aircraft as part of the process, but that could be part of the aerobatic endorsement. Also be prepared for a long wait for CASA to process all the paperwork. -
Can I apply for an RPL with an RAA certificate, do an aerobatic rating then hire an aero certified aircraft for personal use ?

I think you need a cup full in today's current society. Maybe you had the measurements wrong ?Yeah, nah, "science" means to investigate and most certainly not to announce results before the results are in.The cells have been noted to have had "change", which is the proper categorisation for the moment - might be well on the way to future humans with super strength and higher resistance to cancer for all they know. Certainly needed to reverse the current softness developing in people. Now excuse me, time for my daily teaspoon of cement.

I have not got my copy yet, but I am sure it will be a nice change from the day to day demanded perfection everyone is supposed to produce as a human being in today's society.All....happy you are enjoying the book. It was my pleasure to help Tim edit the book after another had done a quick proof read. There were a lot of spelling / grammer mistakes corrected the long hard way with Tim and I comparing notes for around three weeks. The mistakes/ spelling errors that were left in we thought added to the rough, quick nature of a rough and quickly written diary by a country gentleman. The book may not have happened if we hadn't moved it along as we did in an attempt to get it for Avalon..( which didn't happen). Both Tim and I spent many valuable hours on getting it to you, which neither of us had to spare. I am personally overjoyed to have helped Tim and to now see the book in print.During the layout process by the printer they wanted more bucks to re- edit the book after also noting some mistakes. Tim and I agreed 'stuff em' it adds to the character of the hole ( whole !) story........:).....sorry. Hope you all agree !...

Aviation a special gift to mankind !!For those who haven't seen it this is the video from the "Wings over the Rockies" museum by Harrison Ford. He is a passionate aviator as you will gather from the video & has a collection of immaculate aircraft including the Beaver featured. Superbly filmed, edited & narrated.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j8VhEWLFdE -
Aim for 2 hours a week. Bad weather weekends need to be taken into account, so make up for it in good weather. Try to get over 100 hours a year.

Design and developmentEdit
The Prime started as the Millennium Master, but the design was later acquired and further developed by Blackshape. The aircraft was designed to comply with the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale microlight rules. It features a cantilever low-wing, a two-seats-in-tandem enclosed cockpit under a bubble canopy, retractable tricycle landing gear and a single engine in tractor configuration.[1]
The aircraft is made from pre-preg carbon fibre. Its 7.94 m (26.0 ft) span wing has an area of 9.96 m2 (107.2 sq ft) and double slotted flaps. The standard engine available is the 100 hp (75 kW) Rotax 912ULS four-stroke powerplant, driving a two bladed constant speed propeller, which gives it a maximum level speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) and a cruise speed of 275 km/h (171 mph).[1]

Thanks for the information everyone. Looks like R583B is not always active weekdays. Will check the Notam and Area Freq and might be able to go Mudgee, Warkworth to Taree. If not available I can head down and use the lane from a Maitland.
-
Ask us if the restricted areas will be up on the day on the area frequency. We get the requests all day long and don't mind answering.
It does like to float a bit. Just need to be patient in ground effect and let it sink. Flare to early and she will balloon fairly well.I saw it at Natfly a few years ago and thought it was the best looking aircraft I'd ever seen in the 600kg MTOW class. Wish I'd got the scorpions out and made an offer. How do you find the long wings - inclined to float a bit? -
That is the one.Nuzza, that NG4, is that 24-7357? If so, one of the most comfortable aircraft I ever sat in. -

Still if you drift into Romeo either side of the lane you could be getting fired at by a Hornet if you do not comply with what you are toldIFR = "I follow Roads (or Railway lines)" The firing ranges are over the coast. -
Cl
Definition of "IFR" Inside Firing Range !!The lane, D589A and D589B is centered over the Northern Rail Line - keep your left eye on it and you will be in the right side of the lane but don't drift too far right (IFR!!).WikiPedia isn't a good look as a replacement for ERSA - use ERSA.The restricted areas around YWLM is pretty well 6am to 10pm local so you will need PPL with CTA and a transponder to get through.
R583A and B are not showing up in the current 7 day NOTAMS so may be de-activated. In this case you can fly higher than 2000 feet in the D589B lane north of the saddle north of Dungog OR from Glendon Brook all the way to Taree around the back of R578E. BUT always check with YWLM for the current status.
Have fun!!
