All sorted Evan helped me.Hi, give us a call on 03 8370 3024 and we'll help you out. You'll need to use the CoG limitations from the POH.- 1

Terrific Jetboy, that is what I wanted to hear. The ACS switch comes with instructions for starting with only one active mag, which is the usual configuration on lycoming engines. If I remenber correctly there is a link wire to connect to another terminal - so it earths out the unwanted mag when the key is turned to "start" -
I want to install the Bullyhawk soft start module which requires one mag to be not operating at startup.
TWhy would want to JN? -
Does anyone know if the ACS key switch can be rewired to run on one mag in the start position ?
-
Does anyone know how to set up the weight and balance envelope in Avplan ? What data do you use for the corners ?
-
I am looking at installing the soft start module and maybe the Tanis engine preheater kit to help with cold weather starting issues.

Is it required to get factory approval for a 24 rego lsa to have Rotax reccomended modifications done to the engine ?

Apparently you can use silicon dot 5 also that is used in motorcycles and bicycles. It is hydrophobic not hygroscopic like dot 4.

NAIPS, BOM, Earth wind map and Australian Atmospheric Sounding.

What brand of brake fluid are people using with Matco brakes ? I know it needs to be dot 5.

I thought this thread was about cruise speeds not altitudes ?

The prop is set at its full fine pitch and cannot be reversed. The ceiling fan motor is reversible, summer/winter setting.Does it even have the correct rotation for the fan motor? -
It's really only for looks, although it does run and the blade pitch can not be reversed so yes it is on winter setting. That's a super cool fan Nuzza!Just a word of caution though, the blades appear to have a lot of pitch. An acquaintance of mine in Darwin thought he'd make a ceiling fan blow more air so he twisted the metal fan blades to give them more pitch. It resulted in the fan running slower than it should and as a result it overheated and caused an electrical fire ...I'm not an electrician but it has something to do with the AC frequency and the number of 'poles' of the motor determining the speed of the fan. I think ceiling fans should run at 1440rpm on the fast setting with no load so with the blades on providing a load and a bit of 'phase slip' it should be around 1400rpm I think. Much slower than that and the heat builds up. As I said I'm not an electrician and have probably used the wrong terms but it might be wise to check, it'd be a mongrel to burn your plane down.
Also - on second look, did you intend for the fan to blow air upwards rather than downwards? Or is that the winter setting?

Thankfully I am the hangar designer so I approved it myself. Wish it was always that easy !Did the hangar designer authorise the fitting of that prop or is it an owner built 19 Reg experimental hangar??Phil- 1

What is the actual CCA of the Odyssey PC680 ? I have seen one website suggest 170 and another 220.

Weight and balance becomes a problem in my aircaft for rear COG and endurance. I recently had a prop changed from 12 kg to 7kg and I am reasonably light as a pilot. It affects the minimum amount of fuel I need to leave in the aircaft. The C.G point in my aircraft there is no where forward that you can put weight except for the engine bay.Hi JustnuzzaA Lithium iron can't be too light for any aircraft, if it affects the W & B then put something else there ie tools, tie downs etc I am replacing my lead acid battery with a lithium iron one and will save 5 kg weight, nearly 2% of the aircraft weight for no downside. This is free extra performance. Most people don't understand the term ultralight aircraft. who was it said "design a plane then add some lightness"Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I will probably have to go with the Odyssey. The Deka is to wide for my battery box and the Shorai is to light for my weight and balance.

No replies. Someone recommended a Fullriver battery to me for engine starting but with the colder weather now here I'm finding it difficult to start, works fine in the warmer months. Further research suggests i am in need of something with a minimum of 200 CCA to turn the engine over fast enough. The fullriver is 20AH and 165 CCA. looking at an alternative YUASA or similar any ideas ?

Terrific, especially if you have downloaded all maps and info for Avplan on a 16 gb Ipad on a limited broadband usage plan. What are you supposed to do to update, delete all your maps and then pay again to re download ? Not very consumer friendly !!
