Yeah, they were wild old engines from what ive read! There was a chapter in Neil williams book "airborne" about flying some of the old aircraft and controlling the engines at the Shuttleworth Collection in England. Its an old book now, but well worth the read!I believe the original rotary engines were fed a fuel/oil mix thru the hollow crankshaft. Little or no scope for controlling engine speed except via a kill switch. A replica could overcome these problems with several modern technologies. It could end up so civilised that they might have to add a special "sounds like its about to disintegrate" mode to the engine management unit!- 1

Far easier to get someone to teach you. Basic stuff doesent take long to learn when someone is pointing you in the right direction!

have always wondered how these low to the ground canopies go when hitting a wire fence. Have always like tubular steel construction, bu i guess theres pluses and minuses to each different construction method.

the c185 prop noise was a horrible sound, think most would have had different props fitted now. Heard this was because the tips exceeded the speed of sound at max rpm!

Have only been watching the aviation market for the last six months or so, having been away from flying for a good few years. Was just wondering if there are more used aircraft for sale/cheaper prices than in previous years?

Gotta watch this again that was unbelievable!lark: Check out this vid for both crosswind and STOL performance...make sure to watch until the end. I guess it would have had minimum fuel. I know a Savannah can do this kind of thing too. -
wow, never looked at one before! looks great!!BoxFat. Last year, I spoke to a pilot who had owned a Foxbat/Valor/A22 (they seem to have an identity crisis) and he reckoned it was the best aeroplane he had ever owned. At that time he had owned a number of other light planes and the Foxbat was considered the absolute best. Another plane he liked a lot was the ICP Savannah which he claimed had similar flying characteristics.With respect to looks: I think it was a pity that Aeroprakt dropped the shark-like (or Holden GTR Torana-like) vents on the sides of the cowls. Did a trip down to Tassie years ago it was great, really enjoyed the bass strait part! If you get the chance do it!

maule M7, 6 seats and around 120 cruise, handles short and rough strips well! (not a kit or rec though)

yeah, the 40deg flap was great for approaches over obstacles as well as short field stuff.
