  1. Taildraggers have the effect of stopping you from becoming lazy or complacent, as you are aware that you are only as good as your last landing. Even if you dont regularly fly a td it improves your confidence and ability in nosewheel machines. At the end of the day having td experience adds another string to your bow and can open up more variety, fun and opportunities for different flying experiences.

  2. Where is the other strip to the north of the highway? I know there is a model aeroclub strip there. I will be moving out to Bowenfels in a few months, so would be good to know?

yeah its on the left hand side of the highway (heading towards sydney)just before you get to the bottom of mt vic pass.
  3. G'day everyone. New to recreational flying and new to this site. I have enjoyed reading some of the stories in the forums.I Achieved a PPL in 2002 and have vertually done no flying since. Raising a family and the rising cost of GA flying found me drifting away from aviation. After spending a couple of weeks sifting through mountains of recreational flying websites and doing the sums on affordability, I have gained a renewed interest and am keen to get back up in the air to start a conversion to recreational certification.

I am based in Tumut and looking forward to becoming involved with the local aero club, operating a Jabiru 170.

sounds a familiar story. Looking at doing the same!
  4. Nope, haven't been made for a long time now - well the T500s that is. You can get a new Thruster T600 Sprint, and other variations from http://www.thruster.co.uk/spec/My advice would be to have a good look around for a 2nd hand one. You should be able to pick up a T500 for $15,000 or so - cheaper for some earlier versions.

thanks for the info. Still its a shame someone cant start making them here!
  5. It depends on the model Jab, but, having flown C152 first then J170, I'd say it's a bit easier to handle and I felt more confident in it's capabilities. It's lighter, thanks to the composite materials used in construction. Also, being a newer design, it's like the difference between a 70's car and most recent year models. There's a lot of differences but some may prefer flying the older types to the newer ones. Each to their own.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the insight. Guess ill have to try one out to see what its like.
  6. Only instructional aviation vid I can remember was for the r22 helicopters, dont recall ever seeing any GA fixed wing or ultralight ones. However just saw that there are alot on youtube but hard to say how relevant (or instructional they are) you would have to spend ages going through them I guess.

  7. Can anyone advise me on what movie this clip is cut from? Its a great clip!!!

Side note... can anyone find faults in any of the flying activities/techniques undertaken during the production of this clip! You may have to look very hard!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3hL4seZpJo

A great scene! Heard they originally were going to use the helio courier for this scene but the 39ft wing span was a bit much compared to the 30ft 10in of the M5. Not sure if this is true or not but it sounds plausable.
