Taildraggers have the effect of stopping you from becoming lazy or complacent, as you are aware that you are only as good as your last landing. Even if you dont regularly fly a td it improves your confidence and ability in nosewheel machines. At the end of the day having td experience adds another string to your bow and can open up more variety, fun and opportunities for different flying experiences.

Xair is a nice machine, shame its not a taildragger though!

yeah its on the left hand side of the highway (heading towards sydney)just before you get to the bottom of mt vic pass.Where is the other strip to the north of the highway? I know there is a model aeroclub strip there. I will be moving out to Bowenfels in a few months, so would be good to know? -
Havent been to the kat strip since the late 90s, had assumed it would have been closed down by the locals by now!
-
think there are 2 strips at hartley? Thanks for that, the Xair is stol so shouldn't have any problems. I regularly fly to Bathurst and have sampled the very friendly aero club there. Good crowd that middle NSW crowd. -
Made the decision to go with a canon a few years back as it was still made in japan and the nikon I was considering wasnt. Not sure if this is still the case though? (believe nikon also had some probs with batteries.Think that was resolved though)

Mostly only flown GA TDs. Although always found a good take off and landing much more rewarding in a TD!

Once you are interested in aviation dont think you ever totally lose interest. Good to get back into it again!!

sounds a familiar story. Looking at doing the same!G'day everyone. New to recreational flying and new to this site. I have enjoyed reading some of the stories in the forums.I Achieved a PPL in 2002 and have vertually done no flying since. Raising a family and the rising cost of GA flying found me drifting away from aviation. After spending a couple of weeks sifting through mountains of recreational flying websites and doing the sums on affordability, I have gained a renewed interest and am keen to get back up in the air to start a conversion to recreational certification.I am based in Tumut and looking forward to becoming involved with the local aero club, operating a Jabiru 170.
Cheers

Great vid! looked like a great day and location for flying!A few posts back there was a request for video of a Sapphire. Here's one from last Saturday. Had a nice fly around the lakes at Boort in central Victoria. -
thanks for the info. Still its a shame someone cant start making them here!Nope, haven't been made for a long time now - well the T500s that is. You can get a new Thruster T600 Sprint, and other variations from http://www.thruster.co.uk/spec/My advice would be to have a good look around for a 2nd hand one. You should be able to pick up a T500 for $15,000 or so - cheaper for some earlier versions.Pud

Always liked the look of thrusters, people always say good things about them but there seem to be not that many getting around. Do they still make them?

Thanks for the insight. Guess ill have to try one out to see what its like.It depends on the model Jab, but, having flown C152 first then J170, I'd say it's a bit easier to handle and I felt more confident in it's capabilities. It's lighter, thanks to the composite materials used in construction. Also, being a newer design, it's like the difference between a 70's car and most recent year models. There's a lot of differences but some may prefer flying the older types to the newer ones. Each to their own.Cheers,

Yeah, I forgot all about the kings videos!I have "Kings "take-off-&-landing" ,not too bad, shows whats needed.bryan -
how does flying a jab compare to say a c150?
-
Only instructional aviation vid I can remember was for the r22 helicopters, dont recall ever seeing any GA fixed wing or ultralight ones. However just saw that there are alot on youtube but hard to say how relevant (or instructional they are) you would have to spend ages going through them I guess.

ouch! you can never can relax with tdraggers.

always liked the look of the light wing, only been in one once though.

sapphire is an interesting little machine! dosent seem to be many videos or info about them online though?

A great scene! Heard they originally were going to use the helio courier for this scene but the 39ft wing span was a bit much compared to the 30ft 10in of the M5. Not sure if this is true or not but it sounds plausable. Can anyone advise me on what movie this clip is cut from? Its a great clip!!!Side note... can anyone find faults in any of the flying activities/techniques undertaken during the production of this clip! You may have to look very hard!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3hL4seZpJo
