  1. g'day y'all just been looking at the cost of buying a overhaul kit for a Mikuni fuel pump - during surfing, I came across this ad on eBay - states the pumps are Japanese made - for sale from Townsville - comments please... Mikuni Pulse Pump DF52-73, 35LPH Flow Rate With Dual Fuel Outlets (Sold Each) | eBay
  2. ya know what, I always thought that a tail dragger with a forward vision problem would benefit significantly by having a little camera mounted under the nose of the aircraft you could feed the video back to a drop down tablet for reference while on the ground, and then fold it up and record the flight onto the tablet for future viewing - it ain't rocket surgery, folks... this stuff is available for FPV options for drones and does not cost a lot, and it's not all that difficult to set up...after a few grubs were seen checking out houses in our street I popped a camera inside my letterbox that transmits to the house for under $50 - records vehicle details and number plates perfectly and nobody even knows it's there... 3. well you know what, the great man was a legend, and if it's good enough for Mr Fisher it's good enough for me.. BP
  4. oh gr8 - I only need 20 - wonder how much it would cost to get the old ones sand blasted and chromed??? or maybe powder coated??? or maybe gold plated???
  5. thanks Neil, I'll check them out too - geez these ones that came on the acft are a weird shape !!! BP
  6. wow so sad, sorry to hear that - must have been sorrow for all concerned, including the pilot of the warbird...a second or two earlier on the brakes and....different outcome aviation can be a cruel mistress, but then life in general is like that - if I hadn't taken the shortcut, or if I'd left home a minute earlier (or later) - all the same, really - when your time is up... BP
  7. wow thanks M61, I'll take a closer look at those links and see what I can work out cheers BP
  8. hey y'all, in the process of giving 0455 a big refurb I want to replace all the D shackles at the end of the landing/flying wires. I thought they'd be easy enough to source as a good quality stainless steel item from a chandlery but they're a real funny shape and I want to get the same design if possible - can't find anything similar on the interthingy...I'd be prepared to use a slightly different shape but the dimension from the inside of the top section to the outside of the pin must be exactly the same, otherwise I would be looking at changing the length of all the cables = damn ! anybody got any idea where I can get them from? I haven't tried Kupunn (or Lockwood) as yet... cheers BP
  9. hey I fly a tail-dragger and I don't have any problem with vision during taxying...
  10. not that is NOT gonna buff out...anybody get hurt in this one? the prop damage looks awful close to the cockpit of the little one...
  11. I had already bought an Odyssey PC545 for my Drifter (mounts in the nose and I am trying to lose weight off my big fat gut to reduce weight all round) (?) - dumb bunny here didn't check the weight = 5.2kg.....150 CCA - $250 I hadn't considered any Lithium type of battery because of my knowledge of Lithium Polymer batteries - then I discovered LifePO4, which of course (yeah HIC, I GOT IT!!!) are a different beast altogether I just bought a Wisun F1W210 for my 582 powered Drifter - 3.8AH - 180 CCA - 400 PCA - Max Charge Current 20 A - Weight 800 Grams - $150 delivered I am tempted to put a temperature sensor on it (just to be sure) but I get the impression I would be wasting my time...it even has a little test button/light built into the top of it showing Low/Mid/Full charge but you know what - this new technology has a way of making you think about the way things have always been = can a battery this light really do the job??? I hope I'm not disappointed, but I don't think I will be - we shall see... BP
  12. currently looking into the possibility of staying a few days at a little place called Ball Bay, just North of Mackay - even found a beach house for $120 a night, sleeps 8 in 4 double beds - noice !!! if we can get into the airfield at Ball Bay without drama (Nimby Territory, apparently) I will book the house and take one of the rooms, anybody wanting any of the other rooms = $30/night + a bottle of red wine as a booking fee! if I don't get any takers, no big deal, I'd pay more than that for a motel...per night...and I can get a full refund up to a week before the booking date, so all good if dates change for any reason not sure if I made the comment before but I am not on any real kind of schedule for the trip so if I find a nice place I'll be tempted to hang around for a few days - Ball Bay looks like one of those places... anybody wanting to hang around, all good, if ya wanna get on with it, hope we catch up along the way - works for me... BP
  13. geez, youse blokes - that'll buff out (the Tecnam, that is)...so it's true then, those propellor thingys really can hurt ya....wow... BP
  14. bloody hell, they're going to need a hell of a lot of runway to get off the ground....
  15. Ball Bay looks like a brilliant stopover for a few days - just found a lovely beach house with 4 bedrooms for $120 per night - I'll get in touch with Bob and will look closer at the house... thanks for your input guys BP
  16. ok folks, listen up - just heard from Mike (Bluesy) that the Thangool Fly-in is cancelled - as such we will not be bothering to spend the weekend there... Mike says there is a Gliding Club about 40nm North of Thangool, so I'm currently looking at that as an overnighter - watch this space - we might go a bit further North? BP
  17. hey thanks for the link I'll try to get in contact with Steve Walz via FB BP
  18. sorry Hongie it was not a PM just a request for info around Mackay in the forum BP
  19. already sent Hongie a request for info on airfields near Mackay for an upcoming 'safari', a bunch of 60 knotters from Boonah to Cooktown via coast and back inland - any advice re. flying in that necka much appreciated guys BP
  20. hey Hongie, re. our planned trip to Cooktown from Boonah in May '18 - (see thread = Cooktown Trip) we are looking for somewhere noice around Mackay for a small group - what would you recommend if it's a pretty area we might stay a few days (or if the weather is crap...) cheers BP btw, the Irish 'spelling+memory' joke I heard is this: how do you spell WHALE how do you spell OIL how do you spell BEEF how do you spell HOOKED now, what are the four words, in the correct order? then they say WHALE OIL BEEF HOOKED love it - damn funny to hear little old ladies say that.....
  21. the plan is to leave Boonah on the 24th May and fly to Monto via Kingaroy, one night at Monto and a quick hop to Thangool for the Fly-In on Saturday morning, Friday/Saturday at fly-in, flying out Sunday 27th. Going over my flightplans in more detail and I see a problem with this (above) because it is wrong! it don't add up! anyway, it is 4 hours flying, adding a one hour break = 5 hours on Day One - a bit long I think So - MY plan (yours may be different) is: Depart Boonah early on Thursday 24th May - fly to Kingaroy - break at Watts Bridge - overnight at Kingaroy 24th = 118nm (tracking via Aratula/Thornton/Tent hill to avoid R625B midweek) Depart Kingaroy on Friday 25th May - fly to Monto - break at Gayndah - overnight at Monto 25th = 128nm Depart Monto on Saturday 26th May to Fly-in at Thangool - approx. 40nm - overnight at Thangool 26th Depart Thangool on Sunday 27th - fly to = TBA Please note that my distances shown are using IFR techniques (I follow roads, railways and rivers) and will be different to yours... Depending on numbers confirmed mid May I will: Talk to the Flying Tigers at Boonah about aircraft/pax arriving on either Tuesday or Wednesday for an extended stopover before departure on 24th Talk to the Kingaroy Mob about aircraft/pax overnighting on 24th Keep in touch and please don't hesitate to tell me if I've stuffed up again - it's called OMS - Old Man Syndrome cheers BP
  22. g'day Jabba, yeah Atherton is well and truly on the list and please pass on my appreciation to the Club, looks like a place where we might spend a few days.... cheers BP
