I don't believe this is a big cost if you take it over the life of the hose which I think is 5 years. I am a firm believer of doing it by the book. After all people like Rotax have a lot more experience than me with their engines. I have only had 2 of their engines, how many have they had experience with?++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++the hose clamp shown below is used on a number of our factory built aircraft and if you look closely you can see that when crimped they support the complete diameter of the hose and this is what is required for small diameter hose because you lose a lot of crimping pressure under a standard hose clamp. These units must be connected with a special tool which can be purchased off eBay for around $15 and the claims themselves are not cheap at around three dollars each, they can be reused a couple of times without any problems but they will be damaged if you try to close the clamps with pointy nose pliers or side cutters. Hopefully a few others will jump in the conversation with a bit more experience and knowledge about hose clamp in small diameter tube but I can see from the distortion in a photograph of your fuel flow meter that there is a problem and you need to be careful because these units will crack and they need also to be away from heat source which means they are normally covered in fireproof sleeving unless in a really good airflow position.
that's my $0.16 worth ! and my total knowledge of hose clamps

Santa Claus, like all pilots, gets a biennial checkride from the Federal Aviation Administration, and it was shortly before last Christmas when the FAA examiner arrived.
In preparation, Santa had the elves wash the sled and bathe all the reindeer. Santa got his logbook out and made sure all his paperwork was in order.
The examiner arrived and walked slowly around the sled. He checked the reindeer harnesses, the runners (landing gear), and Rudolf's nose. He painstakingly reviewed Santa's weight and balance calculations for the sled's enormous payload.
Finally, they were ready for the checkride. Santa got in and fastened his seatbelt and shoulder harness and checked the compass. Then the examiner hopped in carrying, to Santa's surprise, a shotgun.
"What's that for?" asked Santa incredulously.
The examiner winked and said, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but you're gonna lose an engine on takeoff."

This property is protected 3 days a week by a shotgun.......you guess which 3.......Oh and let everyone know you have a bachhoe to bury the bodies of those that didn't guess right. Told you I'm an upriver boyThere's a simple answer Scotty,,, When someone 'orrible lobs in,,, shoot 'im... That way, Mum and the kids get to keep the property, and you get free board and lodging and meals and dental and medical and everything for a couple of years. How good is that?Turbo and David
The property insurance might not be adequate but it did not stop a rise of 23% this year. As far as my strip goes only a very sellected few get an invite.

Not sure about South Africa Spin. from what I'm told after 1 season training they are ready for the scrap heap. Plane and engine. I know of one school that is looking at others to replace the Jabs as they are not lastingAs regards the perception comment, I was referring to the reputation the equipment enjoys in other markets - and that is a reality. Many of us may harbour grave suspicions about Jab reliability, with some justification it seems, but this seems far less prevalent in the US and even less so in South Africa which has a large and active population of the creatures. I'm not sure that I would take the activities of plaintiff lawyers, particularly the US species as being representative of the general population. -
TurboA pilot who meet the reasonable intelligence test, could expect to land under these circumstances if a paddock has a mown strip and a windsock, so you would have a duty of care to provide a warning of the obstacles. This could be in the form of large orange balls on the power lines (yes I know, red tape and cost). Practically the best way may be Crosses on the strip when it is not in use by someone whop has been briefed etc..
Been thinking about your ideas about Crosses on the runway etc. I believe any pilot overflying Dex or my strip should be able to determain they are not ALA's or public strips from their locations and the obstructions such as trees and powerlines so therefor must be private or at least on private property. So therefor permission would be needed to "enter". I believe you are expected to allow safe entry to your front door from the street or road so you can then tell them to pi## off, but past that point? Landing in a back paddock? I don't think I would be keen to put crosses on the strip as that could make it look more than it is, a mowed paddock. And besides, mine is suitable for STOL opps only, no matter what some hero types have said like "I could land there" in planes they need to read POH a bit more.

If it is the standard setup for Rotax there are only 2 EGT senders. One for right bank and one for left bank. If that is so it could still be in one carby as each bank is feed with a different carby. Have seen something similar on a 914 and it turned out to be a problem with a float chamber venting tube. I would also check the rubber carby sockets for cracking. Let us know how you go.

I have a "paddock" at my place I use. Just because it is mowed and has a wind sock means naught. Invitation only. The extract below clearly states that the rules some are quoteing are in fact not rules but only guidlines and "in most cases" a pilot that "(a) has sound piloting skills; and
(b) displays sound airmanship." can take off or land safely. Here is the link: http://www.casa.gov.au/download/caaps/ops/92_1.pdf
These guidelines set out factors that
may be used to determine the suitability
of a place for the landing and taking-off
of aeroplanes. Experience has shown
that, in most cases, application of these
guidelines will enable a take-off or
landing to be completed safely, provided
that the pilot in command:
(a) has sound piloting skills; and
(b) displays sound airmanship.

Thats the way I was taught in the trike. Latter on in training in 3axis the FI turned the noise off on engine out training and all was good, I didn't panic and went straight back to the glide approach. That works for me. My trike instructor explained to me the same thoughts as Wayne.I teach them to close the throttle on base and land with power off. My reasoning for that is that if/when the engine quits on them one day, they'll revert to what they were first taught and they'll control their airspeed with attitude.Cheers Scotty

Greetings all,
As some of you may be aware, Rotax have yesterday released an Alert service bulletin in regards to a possible crack that could occur on some 912-914 series crankshafts.
The engine serial numbers affected are listed in the Rotax service bulletin, however for some reason the EASA AD lists ALL 912 and 914 engines as being affected, this is not the case.
For ease of looking, I have attached to this e mail an Excel file which lists ALL the engines affected by there serial number and also the official Rotax alert service bulletin.
No engines sold by Bert Flood Imports are affected, however there may be some factory built aircraft, or engines supplied with overseas kits imported into Australia that may be affected, so I suggest that people check there engine serial number with the list attached.
ALL the engines affected were built at Rotax during the period of October / November 2010
We are aware of only 3 engines in our distribution area that are in fact affected by this service bulletin, and I will be contacting these people directly.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best Regards
Wal

Well folks I went to the Glouscester Fly-in on the weekend and meet some old friends and made some new ones too. But i did meet 2 nameless fellow forumites there as well. They remain nameless (unless they want to repent their sins) as I went as a shy, reserved bashfull type of a young fellow and I came home a bent and twisted old dv8. I have been corrupted by these 2 and now I feel abused and violated. They no doubt they will tell another story, all of which are lies. I am not like that, I did not say that and I deffinately did not do that, but if I did remember I was corrupted by those 2. They have a lot to answer for. I think I had a good time but can't remember taking any photos but I do remember one of those nasty old men taking some shots(another story) so maybe there are some photos around. Thankfully I was not PIC and could have a little sleep on the way home. Speaking of that , I think I'll go and have a little lay down now.

Do you want me to sing it to you. :DGreat clip, but I can't get the music in either screen mode ... bugga. -
Us Kempsey boys just hear that music everywhere.;)i diddnt go full screen and still got the music maybe my comment on youtube was a bit premature!!!!!Cheers Scotty

Just a little clip I shot the other day while we were trying to re-arrange Ole's hanger to fit everything in. Put some music to it to get Wayne and David in the mood for some sippin' at Gloucester.
For some reason you need to play in full screen mode to get the music.
