  1. If it's the same stuff I got with the muffler, Rotax supply a stainless "donut" so you can cut whatever curves you want out of it, as well as straight tube.  I did the cutting myself based on a wooden mockup of the engine then got an experienced welder to join them.  Having said that I was slightly too long in one so had to re-cut, I need to either get him and his welding equipment here to do it in place, or take the lot up to him and hope that it fits after.  I think I'll try to get him here.

  2. Surely all owners would have to sign some sort of legal agreement that the flying activities are an integral part of the development, as part of the sale agreement.

If the 60% really don't like planes I can't see them buying a place on an airpark.

(Mind you I do understand that people are illogical creatures at times.)

  3. FINALLY my rivets arrived... only 4 months since ordering, the company had somehow lost the original order and had to redo it.

So I bought some windscreen mastic, masked off the edges of the windscreen and top screen, and screwed / riveted it all together.  It's strange seeing it now without the clecoes that have been there for the last couple of years - she's had a haircut!

  4. I was in Hobart on Saturday and noticed a light aircraft doing fairly steep turns over the city.  Wondered what he was up to so flicked on FlightRadar24 and was quite surprised when I saw his track.

Almost looks like he's flying over all the roads in the CBD - same angles.  Privately owned C182 RG.  Any guesses as to what he'd be up to?

    PS don't say "cropdusting"...

There's an error in the caption, the aircraft in the foreground is a Hillson Praga, not a Hillston Praga. There were only ever 3 imported into Australia.

They were a beaut, lightweight, sporty little machine - but unfortunately, none of them survived WW2. One was destroyed in a crash in 1943, and the other two were lost in fires in 1944 and 1945.

Here's the newspaper story of the Hillson Praga that crashed. It was being flown by two Inspectors from the CAC, and they both climbed out of the wreckage relatively unscathed.

As long as it's not a Hillsong...

Short Skyvan isn't it... I made a R/C model of this when I was about 18, with 2x .25 OS motors I think.  Never actually flew it for some reason.

  7. To clarify,  in my case I changed all 3 tyres, not just the nosewheel.

If that's not enough then either the prop diameter,  engine position or landing gear height would have to change,  none of which is easy or cheap.

  8. I had this problem with the CH701 setup.  Ended up getting a larger front fork and upsizing to the 8.00-6 Carlisle Turf Glide tyres.

The larger fork is wider too to accommodate the fatter tyre, so you need new axle bolt setup as well.

Despite the fork being from Zenith, the larger ICP axle fits it - I got mine from Peter from Aerokits.

  9. Looks like it!  I had both wings on (with supports) last weekend but need to do a fraction more skin trimming around the rear mounts, at the moment it's got a tiny bit of forward sweep.

Looking forward to getting the wings set up properly so I can work on the struts.

  10. Over the xmas break I finished the last bit of concreting - a ramp in front of the shed - so now the plane can finally leave the womb!

I went to pull her out the other day - racking my brains to think of a flat spot on the property where I can set up to put the wings on.  When I got the main wheels on the flat bit outside the shed I realised the wings would fit there, so she didn't have to go any further.

I struggled a bit with the left wing, the skin near the root still needs a bit of trimming and the cabin frame bracket is a REALLY tight fit.  Will have to get her out again next weekend if it's sunny and try again.

Also need to make another wing support for the other side, which will be taller as there's a drop off after the concrete.
