  1. Hi All

I am finally getting around to fitting the weight upgrade kit to my Savannah

I am not looking forward to removing the wing leading edge skin. As I didnt build the aircraft it will be new territory for me.

Also I have removed the slats and fitted Stolspeed VGs. I want to remove the slat mounting brackets while i am at it but not sure what to do with the holes in the leading edge skins.

Any advise or tips on going about the above would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

  2. Winton Sportman

    Hi

I own a winton sportsman also

Great little aircraft to fly although i havent flown it for a few years but hope to get it back in to air eventually It would be interesting to see how many are still around and flying

How about a few pics of your

    Cheers:thumb_up:

  3. Protecting basic flying

    Hi All

I am all for the wieght increase to 760Kg. Anything that makes the RAAus larger and stronger is OK with me.

Although I agree with what Keeffe has to say and feel that flyers of slower lighter aircraft (95-10 mainly, including a few others) should be excempt of some of the rules and costs I can see happening to accommodate faster heavier aircraft.

  4. Upgrading 750 Kgs

    Hi All

As far as 750Kgs goes I think we should go for it.

Heavier aircraft (not necesary faster) sit in the air more stable and are better all weather machines.

The big problem with RAAus I feel is that they are heading towards the same rules as GA (How long before we will require biannual medicals)

Maybe this is the trade off if we want to fly bigger faster aircraft and enter controlled airspace (which I think has been mentioned)

If we are going down this path maybe a line should be drawn in the sand stating

aircraft, with this wieght and peformance can be flown under these simpler rules.

And faster heavier aircraft can be flown under these more complicated rules.

But I am afraid we will lose the simplicity of where it all started for more complex machines and i feel this simplicity needs to be protected Remember we all most proberly started with these aircraft and if we all had to start with the more expensive aircraft a lot of us most properly would not be pilots today.

    Just my thoughts.

  5. Maybe someone can help me with a fix for my problem of using Altronics headset on my Icom handheld radio.

All I get on transmit is a squeel although when I use a Flightcom headset the radio transmits OK.

Any ideas for a fix so i can use my altronics heatset!!!!

  6. Hi All

    Looking for some advise

Instead of using GL1 ply on the wing spar of the aircraft I am building (Asso V)

I am considering using marine grade Hoop Pine ply mainly because I can buy 8X4 ft sheets. As I have to fit the ply with grain direction of 45deg to the length of the spar. With 4ft X 4ft Finish birch ply I would have I lot of spliced joins.

Looking for advise on what to do is the hoop pine ply weaker or stronger than birch ply???

    Cheers All

  7. Thruster Experimental

    Hi All

Thanks for the info on fitting a Jaby 2.2 to Thruster.

There must be a way to do this !!!!!!!

If I built a modified aircraft out of a couple of wrecked thrusters and fitted a Jaby engine could I reg it as an experimental???????

    Cheers all

  8. Hi All

I think up to 750KG would be a good idea. It would make a few marginal two seater aircraft more legal and able to carry up to there designed gross legally.

Also a heavier aircraft sits in the air more stable and is not so prone to turbulance etc.

I feel limits on speeds and H.P. would be more apropreate

Some of the new plastic fantastics are getting fairly fast and I think speed and stability are a good test for a pilots skills.

  9. Hi All

What are the max hours recomended before the rotax 912 needs a rebuild? It it possible to rebuild the motor to 0 hours?

And if so can this be done by any qualified person ?
