Sounds like you need to get a full set of proper spanners Maj you can't condemn something if you can't fix it properlyMmmmm interesting........................doesn't sound like much fun for the average guy. The fact that you can't even use a standard spark-plug socket on a jab spark-plug doesn't install too much faith in me. It all goes right back to the initial engine designer.................has he kept the basic field maintainer in mind when it comes to basic maintenance.................Mmmm........NO !!..........................sorry not good enough IMOP...........................Maj....Brian

Chris,
I have found that by turning on the mags when the engine is spinning helps, as the inertia from the prop is not being pushed back by the engine timing as it is trying to fire at 25 degrees before TDC,it seems to allow the engine to achieve the required rpm easier to give you a better spark for the initial start.
You still need to have a good battery and starting system as nothing can help if they are not in good condition.

If you have a jab that is a bit difficult to start in cold weather I have found that if you spin the engine with the starter and then turn on the mags it helps

Hi Rod!
Sorry you couldn't make it out there tonight.
We are often out at the airport, tomorrow we are off for a bit to Maryborough then back home. Saturday at this stage if it's nice, we are off again somewhere.
About 3 ish tomorrow we will be off, then back before dark (of course!)
Saturday, whatever takes our fancy.
Ours is the green hangar on the Northern boundry of the airport, just go past the flying school and keep to the outside road, you will see it.
Are you after hangarage rates? Everybody seems to pay about $50 roughly a week, for rent.

Rod.
We will actually be up at the airport tomorrow (Thursday) night about 5.30-6.00pm. Brian is doing some work up there, so if you want to come up and say Hi! we will be around.

Chris,
Glad to hear that you got back home safe.
Hope to see you again soon, and you are welcome back anytime.
Linda and Brian.

Hi Rod!
You need to come up and visit and have a cuppa, and let us show you our awesome airport and have a tour.
You fly a gazelle I gather atm? Is that the yellow one up at Ballarat?
Need to get you into a Jab....:)

Rod.
There may be a couple of hangars looking for tenants in Bacchus Marsh.
Let me know if I can help.

Hi Burbles 1 and Relfy,
We usually use brake cleaner on our jabiru underneath when it gets a bit oily or dirty, we dont use carby clean or heavy degreasers as they can strip paint and Relfys question about polish you should not use anything with silicone in it as if you have to do a repair at a later time the area affected by the silicone will be harder to repair and paint

Maryborough is having a flyin next Sunday 14th of November.
All are welcome.

*edit note: fixed.

The best way we have found to stop birds in the hangar is to distribute moth balls around the hangar up in the rafters and where the birds get in around the doors it seems to work
To Boleropilot there is a firm called Pumpkin head that makes all kinds of covers for all kinds of planes they are located at Yarrawonga airport and do a very nice job.

You might have given the clue with the carby choke, if that is the case then No4 is running lean.

How do the new diesels go for vibration and how does the fuel go at low temps without waxing and not flowing at or below zero degrees?

Hi Mathew,
your closest big airfeild would be Stawell, it has 2 runways 18-36 at 854 meters and 11-29 at1403 meters it is not far from Stawell township, you will need WAC chart Hamilton (3469)
Hope this helps

The most critical thing to maintain in a jab motor in flight is the EGT and CHT if you hang off the prop and have low air flow through the ducting and high engine temps then you are doomed for a failure, do that with any engine and it will not last.

If you are going to turn pistons around you might want to consider the raised compression ratio in the combustion chamber due to the piston pin offset and the damage that it could cause through detonation damaging pistons, heads and breaking through bolts.

Health & Safety :: PCAS Systems :: Zaon PCAS MRX - Aviation Pilot Supplies Shop | Flight Gear | Aircraft Instruments[/url]) and I will get one when I get a new aircraft. You are right they depend on Transponders so they are no substituite for the eyes but at least they will confirm something to look for if the other aircraft has a transponder
Yes we do have one, and it is great.
Exactly what Ian says, that it is not a substitute for eyeball 1 and 2, it does alert you when you can't see anything...and it does make you sit up and look. Ours is set at 5 nm and when you are moving at 100knts an hour, it gives you time to take action if required.
Highly recommend it.

How about a Gazelle, they are cheap, slow and you can fly them with the doors off for a great view.

If you want to help the brakes from fading, you could try fitting the callipers to the rear of the wheel so as the disc can get some clean air and cools the disc better, we have our brakes fitted in this way and have never had any problems with braking performance.

TVSA @ Bacchus Marsh is a GA flying school, The people there are friendly enough, we fly out of Bacchus Marsh all the time it is our home airfield, if you are wanting to learn to fly recreational out this way you could try Penfield at Sunbury, Lethbridge or Inbound aviation at Ballarat. they are the closest to here it just depends on what type of aircraft you want to learn with.
Cheers

.....the Jab jumpstart jamboree we see on cold mornings at fly-ins.
Interesting to watch that.....
We had to get my fathers car last year at the Bundaberg flyin to help start a couple of them.
We haven't had that problem yet.

Thanks for the good times Decca, you will be missed.

If you didn't like vodaphone coverage then definitely don't go with 3 mobile phone, I used to have one and I could have done better with two jam tins and a bit of string between them.
