  1. Try this site for helping to solve most problems with flight simming. http://vistaoz.org/index.html
  2. How about blah trafic, jab1234 entering and backtracking rwy36 for rwy27, blah... blah trafic, jab1234 backtracking rwy27, blah. CTAF[i would still use radio] or CTAFR , that is how i would call , as for gaap or cta not at all sure, but a good question the more ithink off it. am interested on correct call, but as in a lot off calls are a little diff at times as long as not too long and intentions notified. cheers trevor.
  3. Made me laugh, remembering what my instructor was telling me about a 747 pilot doing a conversion,on first landing started flaring the little jab 160 at 200ft agl. I asked how long to sign off, 8.5hrs. he reckons he's only had prob 2 or 3 that didnt need 5hrs, most 5 to 10 and some over for ga to raa in jab160. cheers trevor...
  4. Was the Sapphire pilot wearing a helmet, and would a 15kt< headwind landing would be acceptable for a Sapphire, as i believe you've flown one and what is its x wind capability[i will go and check sapphire site]. I guess all landings in small aircraftin winds 15-20>kts difficult . Good to hear he escaped injury, seat belts save life. Trevor.
  5. Good point John, lets try and keep every thing to the highest of standards. When ever ive been in small ga aircraft that as performed air to ground comms, they all ways had and used uhf. And Ian, im sure if you was in genuine saftey probs , i to would break the law. i would take the chance as i think you would have to be pretty damm unlucky to find a court that would condem you unless you had some other crimenial intentions associated with your actions. The 120.85 freq, is that a designated ch for aircraft to aircraft chit chat, or is it a local practice u use with locals in your area. i guess formation pilots must use a desegenated freq. My instuructor[i'm still a student] told me about the 123.45, [glider pilots use quite a bit] but still only for aviation related talk and not to clutter up airways. I guess monitoiring correct freq should be main proritey. cheers Trevor.
  6. Try this http://www.users.bigpond.com/stevendumesny/ was updated to kim burge sapphire 4 or 5 mths back. i think he mentioned on this site somewhere that he was taken delivery eithier oct 07 or jan 08 . Wonder what engine is going to replace the rotax.
  7. So that is true, as i was only recently informed, Subaru engines originly desiged for aircraft. Go Subaru...
  8. RFDS Photo taken back in Feb 2004 at YCVN,one of RFDS new pc12 vh-nwo [north west operations]. 2nd photo vh-nwo taxing to rwy04 with customs landing [it was a windy day] and a chopper in the background, just kidding. Actually its a dragon fly in foreground.
  9. Bendorn, i've just had look at voz fourm and if you go there and look up Essiental Aussie Addons theirs a thread under title off "Saab's Victorian Airfields" , doe'snt sound to promising but since you dont have Voz or any mesh installed you might be ok, but sounds like you may require a few other files installed to make them work. Another way around it if you only require those 4 airports you mentioned and you have some photos of them and there location [lat & longitude] you may find someone who likes making add-ons to do for you as i've have known that to happen before. Seem's if you were to metion [if you do have photo's] that you've got pictures and you actually post them on site it gives programmer's more inspiration to make them, good luck, Trevor... p.s, if you dont have photo's and if you're able to take picture from goggle earth, that may help.
  10. HI Deskpilot, did you try right clicking and saving , then open, good luck Trevor
  11. OK. i've just looked at avsim again , unable to find v1.4 but looking at v1.3 it says you require v1.2 installed for v1.3 to work. Looking at voz that ive have installed v1.5 , cant see those airports on list but that does'nt always mean that they are not there as some are there but not metioned. Best ask on voz fourm which you will find at http://vistaoz.org/index.html . you do have to become a member to d/l files. Do you fly on-line as in Vatsim/Vatpac . Another site to check out, is http://www.virtualvfr.com/ for asking questions on flight simming, they also have links to vatsim. They are friendly and helpfull and conduct on-line group flights and good place for learning and practising radio procedures with live [vatpac] ATC. Hope this helps, will now go and have a look at some other sites to see if i can find those fields you've mentioned. Hope this as helped, Trevor.
  12. Just had alook at avsim and only find v1.3 which says you will require sabs_vic_airfieldv12 for it to work. Unable to find v1.4. Have you read 'read me file' also did you unzip file before installing. Why not uninstall file and try VOZ files, they have a lot of fields that not in fs2004. Make sure you read instuctions before install though and suggest checking out voz forums. Good luck, Trevor...
  13. G'day, i personally dont have any experience wth the Wasp, but there is a report on it in the Dec/Jan edition of RAA magazine, cheers TP.
  14. Hi Flyer, I to believe you should treat all props as live . I do not turn prop when performing my walk around checks and believe it should only be done by lame or level 2 maitainer with mags disconnected. But seem's with a jab 2200 motor before first start with all switches off, MAYBE ok. I wonder what the Jabiru hand book say's. But for rotax it seem theirs different reasons. Cheers TP
  15. Not so sure with rotax, but in the jabiru 160, when i asked instructor the need to turn prop at least 4 times, answer was checking compression on each cylinder to see if all the same amount of force required for each. If one was less , suspect valve not seating properly. ie jab230 6 times, 6cylinders. Always check switches are off before turning. Another guy metioned that if you have earth fault you might get ignition, but instructor reckoned you would be battling to pre start a jab 2200 motor by hand even with switches on, dont think i would try that though, but i guess you should treat all with caution. TP
  16. My condolences to the Brown family, and to all his friends in this forum. Some of us did not meet the man in person, but we did get to meet the great person that the man is. Im sure he would have enjoyed knowing you's as much as he seemed to enjoyed this fourm. May you R.I.P. George ..
  17. I guess, small amount off oppisite rudder, but bit hard to say from down here. I kept getting told not to use to much stick and let plane fly itself more. Trevor
  18. G'day, thougt i'd better introduce myself. I have been a member a short while now and would like to say a BIG thanks to the people who make this fourm and all the members who contribute. This is a very good site for information and learning. Great that other people with same intrest to share there knowledge and thought's. Im a student Pilot learning to fly in Jabiru 160 where ive done two stint's of 10 days november and 7 days in december to get a total of 16hrs so far. It has given me new found confidence and inspiration, and i owe some off this to use guy's for taking the plunge and to anyone thinking about, i suggest you seriously think about having a go, for even I thought at the time there is more important things in my life i should be sorting out first. My 1st choice of aircraft i hope to purchase one day is the LSA Sapphire as i like the sporty looks and costs and its x country capabilites. After i complete my training i would also like to do some gliding training and also go for my PPL one day as well. But thats all in the future, so for now its head down, bum up and work hard, and many happy flying days to you all, cheers Trevor.
  19. As a student pilot learning in a Jabiru 160, I was wondering if someone could inform me, what type the tanks in wing the J160 has, for iv'e noticed theres a lot of sloshing and rocking of plane whilst pushing plane back in hanger. Also , but im sure you's all would know, but just in case, if you ever happen to spill fuel on your clothing make sure you wash down under shower or hose with water before removing clothing. Im sure you've experienced static electricity when removing clothing. Just a quick note on the un-explosive fuel tank, had superviser you told us to use this new 1gal fuel tank to use for re-fueling the generator who then bent down over top off, un screw the lid then lit a match and waved over top of opening,to which i was suprised so many verbal obsinerty's could come out off my mouth while back stepping at incredible rate, and as much suprised at the whole thing not blowing up in his face. Have not and would not show that to any one, but would not have belived it if i had'nt seen it. When i asked a tech'y once why dont aeroplanes have it fitted, the old answer 'profits generally win over saftey' , Cheers and a safe new year to all, Trevor.
  20. South China airways have a school at Jandakot WA and at Merredin which is about half way between Perth and Kalgoorle. They have two citations jets which fly up north a fair bit. Perth ,Alice ,Darwin and i see them refueling quite often at Learmonth. I was told they use outback country to fly over for ther nav exercises because of the sparesness of landmarks etc and is simular to the inland regions of China. Generally see two older and rounder instuctors and a very young and slim Chinese guy get out. Singapore airlines also have a school at YPJT. TP
  21. Hi Kim, Congratulations on buying a Sapphire, just wondering and interested, are you buying in kit form or factory built. Is there any Sapphire's located at Bindoon as i would love to see one, hopefully next time in Perth [i live in the north west of WA] i will get time to vist Bindoon. Cheers TP
  22. Q. How often is the BAK book revised, and what would one expect to pay new/second hand. cheers, TP . p.s is BAK book a casa writen or private and who publishes it.
  23. From reading AUF publications, Quite right with comment "great learning source, as im a none flyer." and the atc forums i read etc, i'd be with a the good airmanship ways for inless it was a private airstrip, or if you hold a un-res ppl, or a emergency, considering all the things i can think off that could be unsafe on performing straight in approach as rec flyer why would you bother. How's this, just the other day i read how a rec flyer tko from a country airport doing all right calls encounters front on a c182 charter operator on final to land, and then mentioned " something i did not know " how by not making radio call and airport operator not there , no landing $. I could also understand there times you could if instructed or given oppurtunty to by aircaft/s in area[as then you know field ok] as stated in casa's new rules ,'pending' why not, especialy on long flight ,detorating weather, and the cost's. That's why i think it's a rule option, for the rpt. And one thing i have learnt from watching aircraft in the air, a turning aircraft is easy to see than one that does'nt, cheers, TP
  24. p.s thanks for the photo, nice one, i think i've got a photo of -051.
  25. Thank's, great report, so my selection and all the great feed back and info i find out about the LSA Sapphire is leading towards a sap as my choice for a first up aircraft. If i stick to my plans ,hopefully i'll get there sooner than later, and that "tailwheel " , very interesting the shopping trolley ans, are you still using it and if you required to replace through wear ,pretty cheap. May i also ask , with the half shield on cockpit how is it for radio comms with headset and mic and is shield high enough from any bugs . I guess the open cockpit sure would be nice at the right times , cheer's TP
