98 becomes 91 in short order in unpressurised containers, ever noticed your car fuel tank is pressureised to prevent this, not many aircraft tanks are, so unless you purchase & use in same week your using 91 anyway.

This doesn't seem to be supported by technical articles from the oil companies. In fact in an article I read there are instances where 98RON actually went up in octain over a given time period although by a minute amount. However overall all fuels deteriorate or change composition over time

  2. It was forecast -  from the time we let these clowns to have total control of what was previously a members organisation -  it has been all down hill.  No doubt the usual supporters of “GA mini”  will come out in support of this approach with LAME maintenance and class 2 medicals unrealistic and unsustainable fees  - it is time to get rid of this tripe. There is no point in paying membership fees AND registration if maintenance & medical requirements are the same - just go GA and forget MINI GA.

    OR regain control of RAA.

Time to step up Fred and make a difference, board nominations are now open.

  3. From my limited experience of flying outback NSW we struggled to get any 95 as 98 is stocked at most outlets and from what I was told 95 will soon cease to exist. Got caught out by a supplier at Wilcannia and had to refuel with 91 but because I had around 20 litres in tank it became a cocktail and didn't make much difference. Running AV gas long term in a 912 certainly does when it comes to lead contamination

  4. If the aircraft is owner maintained, given the MPC from SAAA and the online course from RAAus, then the maintenance log may be beautifully kept with extensive notes all of which are meaningless because it tells you nothing of the mechanical competence of the author simply that he knows what to write where and what numbers to put next to his/her signature. I learnt nothing about the actual maintenance when I did my course.

From my experience that could apply to many LAME out there, except the writing may not be as neat

  5. This trike was built by Air Creation France as a static display for the German airshow back in 2013 and arrived in Australia with 88 hours on aircraft and a brand new wing.

Currently engine time is 319hr and the Bionix13 wing has 231hrs. They painted it in a custom colour for the show which is BMW Grey. Fitted with Stratomaster Enigma EFIS, Microair 760 radio. Has all documentation incl. journey log, flight manual and maintenance reports and releases. The trike has never been road transported and the wing has never been folded since the day it arrived in Aus. No incidents, no accidents or marks. Always hangared at YMFD

    RAA reg 32-8381 $50,000.00

  6. Perhaps not as riveting as a 5 day test match ending in a draw 074_stirrer.gif.5dad7b21c959cf11ea13e4267b2e9bc0.gifI would think it is worthy of a 30 minute doco, or perhaps a 90 second piece on the local news, once or twice during competition...

I'm showing my age here, but in 1987 I assisted with some TV coverage from the BTV6 helicopter at their earlier world championships.

I may have sold you that camera, BTV was a customer of mine

  7. Very Australian- pilots are RAAus pilots

    - aircraft are RAAus registered

    - aircraft are Australian made - Airborne

    - funded by

    the Australian Film Fund

even Airborne have it advertised on their home page ... probably not a great advert for existing pilots and people watching this crap show and the flying 'skills' exhibited wanting to come into the sport are in for a shock when they meet an actual instructor and pilot[/quote

I was told that CASA had got hold of a copy of the video and did take some action.

  8. thank you kasper for that answer to my stupid question when persons make remarks without an explanation gets me to question motive

and yes I have been on a flight on a trike no he did not frighten me or do anything stupid as I will go again when it warm these old bones don't like getting cold Neil

Starch, I have no motive other than to gently point out that the poster was bordering on ignorant when it comes to knowledge of weight shift aircraft in the same way i have limited knowledge on the flight characteristics of aircraft such as you fly.

FYI I own and fly an Aircreation Tanarg which was purchased from Chris.

  9. I think trikes have evolved a lot over the last 10 years with the main manufactures moving to 4 stroke engines that set and forget and better materials used . But there is lots of trade offs in doing this the tare weight has increased a lot and bigger arms needed to control the trust of the bigger engine .I don.t fly trikes but over the years have seen the landing distance increase a lot . I remember 20 years a go they used to come in and fare and be stopped in a few yards it use to amaze me . But now its a bit different and speeds have increased between all the models . So more weight gives you better penetration but trade off you need a lot more height to recover from stall .In the early days they only flew in calm morning now they fly in any weather. So my question is what are the limits of any weight shift aircraft and how fast ,how heavy ,and how rough conditions can they be design for .Also one thing that hasn,t been addressed is better protection for pilot as there zero at the moment .

Dan311 it may help with your understanding if you were to take a flight with an experienced trike CFI who could demonstrate the capabilities of a modern trike. Some of you're assumptions maybe missing the mark.

  10. I suppose if you have a chute collapse at 100 ft with those elliptical canopies they fly with, you would have to be a quickwild west gunslinging cowboy and be really quick on that trigger.

100 feet, good luck with that. Im picturing a While E Coyote cartoon with canopy floating down over him as lies burried in the canyon floor

  11. Yes dan there are 90 percent will be with you but that 10 percent that won't then you have that thirty percent that every things ok then you have 20 percent I don't give flying frills I want to to fly I don't care what you do as long as I can fly anywhere As I have found out by making this statement "all rotax powered air craft will have fuel return line to tank "

As in my opinion and rotax installation manual

As foxbat have now made it mandatory for this to be done but there is now set time as to when it is to be done that I can see

Haven't had a problem with it doesn't wash with me

Has anybody looked at it no because the high hr pilots that may have picked up on that may not be here

Like don't need a lift fuel pump cause the tank is higher than the carby it will just flow down the pipe bullsxxx since when have fuel tanks been 5 mtrs above the carby

The cost of doing is minimal if these items are done at the start the weight what's a couple of kelos or a life neil

    150 percent ??

  12. Others may disagree but IMO there is no such thing as a "beginners trike" Trikes vary by manufacturer, flight parameters, wings, engine, etc but none are marketed as a beginners aircraft. I did my training in an Airborne 912 with a Streak then Arrow wing and then went on to buy an Air Creation Tanarg.

It was within my budget and suited the type of flying I intended to persue - touring. So for what its worth you should make the decision as to which trike based on budget and intended use.
