  1. I'm a relative newcomer to recreational aviation having only been certified for a little over 3 years. In that time I have purchased a rag and tube machine ( Air Creation Tanarg 912ES ) and have logged over 200hrs. To date my organisation, RAA has been a joy to fly under. No hassles with paperwork or renewals, great information flow, good online interface to name a few.

My main concern is that if certain parties manage to fragment our sport resulting in a number of associations then none of them will remain financially viable for long.

  2. I would be concerned that with all this shananigans going on and if it continues that the umpire ( CASA) will blow his whistle and make a call that none of us recreational pilots will like. In most instances the umps decision is final and hard to overturn.

Also, there are not enough members or potential members in this country to have more than one coheasive, effective and financial association under which to fly and even that entity will struggle due to numbers.

  3. 27/8/16 I flew to Tumut for a BBQ and social gathering. The new extensions to the club house looked great. The day started out , smooth air , clear sky's and sunshine, by lunch the weather cooled but maintained clear sky's .

I was interested in a powered hand glider from Camberra , after a lengthy conversation with the pilot , I decided that I am not ready for this type of flying.

A jabiru had a flat nose wheel tyre during landing , plenty of people ready to lend a hand or offer advise.

I would say 20 planes , but I did not count them , a mixture of trikes , GA and RA planes ( 1 powered chute)

For pilots to stay at the club house there's accommodation unit on site .

Before I realised it was time to leave , what a pretty valley , what a great bunch of aviators and friends

See you next time Tumut aero club and friends.

Glad you found the strip given that this thread is USA/Canada

  4. Interesting point, ev17. Does this mean only regular fliers should post? What about pilots with most of their flying behind them? They contribute an awful lot of expertise and experience to this forum. I confess to being an habitual posters and would love to get more airtime, but spend too much time improving my plane. Meanwhile I quite enjoy the online discussions and debates.

No not at all. I guess I was having a backhanded go all those who have nothing better to do than bang on ad infinitum on this site in a negative way without contributing one iota in a positive way to the organization we fly under. It appears to have got worse lately. Usually a sign of an idle person with too much time on their hands

  5. How is this a "general discussion on recreational aviation" as per the Forum.

I have an excuse for being grounded, weather however I am starting to suspect that the majority of habitual posters on this site fly from their Jason Recliner.

Maybe a poll on who actually logs some hours. The results may surprise

  6. oh THANKYOU Onetrack - your info is magic!I will check both suppliers. I'm replacing my x4 landing gear bolts at the moment they're M8 x 70 (Grade 8.8)

I know Chinese products have come along way in quality but I can't trust their fasteners just yet.

    Thanks mate!

Bremick is actually an Aussie company based in Sydney. Stick with AN fasteners meant for aviation and give the others a miss. It's not worth the few cents you save. Peter at Yarrawonga Fight Training runs a pilot shop and ships Australia wide. He also handles Airborne, Air Creation and P & M trikes so talks the language

  7. Hi All!Have aquired myself a Winton Grasshopper and although it's going to undergo a rebuild before it flies again, I'd love to hear from anyone out there who has expierience with one or presently owns one, the usual things to look for ect.

    Thanks in advance!

Before you go fly it please get some instruction and sound advice as you may not be round long enough to become "OldGrasshopper"

  8. so when a l2 l4 LAME repairs your 2 year old air craft with out repair manual for said aircraft or maintanance manual and raa was informed of this that there is a specific regulation and law for the repair of aircraft after an incident or accident not guide lines the repairer did not obtain repair manual raa reps did not actthere a few aircraft that do not have repair manual granted but part of the importation of aircraft is that they will comply with certain international laws and regulations

so why has raa reps now asking for data from l2 l4 and making a song and dance about it 8 years later when they have known or should have known to hard for them

if this senerio was out off their reach why not push it to the regulator cassa their the boss

p/s oh by the way cassa did pass the buck back to raa

farri after telling one ex rra rep to go back to school and learn to read and look at photos

I still have the parts that were removed from said aircraft that raa have on two occasions failed to have examine by them when they were less than 4 mtre from then neil

I think I get where you're coming from, however if one of our clever members could develop a "Storchy Translation App"

That would be a great help

  9. But my problem with an argument that it doesn't matter because the outcome is good is that this is JUST the same logic that sits behind an argument that supports 'its for safety' and you can't challenge it.While the posted material is not disputed to have value the apparent handing over of personal details without concern for the fact that RAAus hold that personal detail for limited purposes is not IMHO acceptable.

Because the same 'its for a good purpose' argument applies equally were RAAus to hand over our full postal and contact details to our current insurer so they could provide to us information on insurance options ... happy for an insurance company to have it?

Mate, that's the least of your privacy worries. If you connect to the Internet or own a mobile phone then the world knows when you sneeze. RAA knowing your postal address is the least of your worries.

  10. Its not in an old tech manual it is in the current one ...section 9.1Electronic ACR is not possible and it still requires an L2 ... and its not required to register for the first time

If RAAus Tech actually are doing their job the forms and photos were received in the RAAus offices ... or they should not have finalized the registration

Why prudent to have a weight and balance on a weightshift? the balance is already marked n/a on all forms as it is not any part of the operation of the aircraft and the factually I have already been through with RAAus Tech over coming up 2 year this airframe has an empty weight variance from 125kg to 150kg depending on which engine and wing I am flying on the day ... the WHOLE engine setup on this airframe was designed by me to be plug and play - I have three engine modules that range in power from 40-100hp and they can be switched out in under 15 minutes and I have 5 different wings whcih can be switched out in under 5 minutes ... all flying as 1 aircraft (confirmed with RAAus) this is in fact up to 15 differnt combination of weight and performance ... the 'weight' form was submitted at the highest weight combination.

Hey Kasper, I'm interested to know what your rationale is for building and flying a mix and match trike ?

What determines the configuration for the flight ? Does the plug and play ( or plug and pray) add much in the way of maintenance costs and time. This appears to be a similar approach that many of the US trike owners adopt

  11. There are two types of Mr Funnel. Normal type and carbon injected C type. C type deals better with static electricity by conducting, not so much chance of spark jumping.98 Mogas stored in a plastic jerry can will turn into 91 mogas in about two weeks. Get a hydrometer and test it - you will be surprised.

    John.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that you can tell the octain of fuels just by measuring the specific gravity. Can someone please expand on this

  12. And which report will that be? You producing one?The forum is for Accidents and Incidents , not just condolences, if you don't feel they should be discussed don't read the forum

People such as you are part of the problem, going off half cocked making ill informed comments. What would you know about manoeuvres in a current model trike ? Having flown an Edge X doesn't qualify.

Anyway the networks afternoon news is going to air as we speak with a more factual version of what occurred.

How the hell can you gain knowledge discussing speculation and rumour !

  13. RIP fellow aviators - no one sets off on a joyflight thinking they may not come home. The debate about discussing accidents (speculating) rages on all forums whenever friends are involved. I'm firmly on the "discuss away" side of the debate - and yes I have lost close friends in flying accidents. It hurts like buggery, but the best advice I can give is, if you find it upsetting, give the forums a break for a while. A lot of useful gen comes to the fore in post accident discussions, whether it ultimately proves related to the accident or not. 12 months time when the report comes out, the circumstances are blurred in most people's minds and it just doesn't have the same impact.

    Utter rubbish

  14. "Yarrawonga Aerodrome manager Peter McLean told the Herald Sun the men, both experienced pilots, had been performing flight manoeuvres around the airstrip when their XT-912 Arrow struck the ground."I guess we will never hear any more about these "manoeuvres " or whether they contributed to the accident! Manoeuvres and flexwings are two words I don't like in the same sentence.

Condolences to all those near to them

Please be careful as to what you say in regard to this accident. The airport manager was misquoted by both Herald Son and Border Mail so little if non of the above is fact.

Why not just express your condolences and wait for the report before commenting further.

  15. The largest purchases "of Australia" are Singaporians actually, never hear them mentioned anywhere. I was down the docks the other day, saw 2 Australian farms being unloaded, it's a lot of soil I tell yas - I'm sure that's what some people actually think happens. Now lets see, Australian Farm going broke as usual holds onto his land, in debt, Aus Gov gives him handouts not much returns or employment etc.

Foreign owner invests money, employs Australians, new machinery, transport companies, local town's economy, supermarket prices cheaper ...

Yeah I can see why you're afraid of these things. Not.

Actually knowing Chinese a whole lot better than you do and having for many years sought out land for recreational vehicle use from Australian Farmers, I would call absolute B/S on that.

If the situation does happen, and more likely the refusal from the Australian on-site managers, I will be delighted to offer you my services at this end to make inquiries.[/quote

"The largest purchase of Australia is Singaporians". Where did you dredge that little gem up from ? Any facts to support it ?

I gather you keep a foot in both camps just in case the rats have to desert a sinking ship.

By the way, what has recreational vehicle use got to do with foreign ownership.

And if you know as much about me as you think you would know that I married a Chinese national

When it comes to opinionated B/S you are up there with the best of them

  16. A high beam warning is a couple of flashes. The vehicle using high beam was a long way from the cattle even further than the truck. I'd say high beam helped preventing the seeing of the cattle. watch again.

I would say the Truckee may have had "pushonitis" because regardless of whether lights were flashed or not he should have slowed until he figured out what was going on. I concur with Kaz on this one
