  1. Seems to me I'd rather be in that plane with an engine failure than a speedy gazelle, although an efato wouldn't be any fun if you were pushing the limits but push the limits in any aircraft and an efato wouldn't be fun, certainly looks as though an out landing in a paddock wouldn't be too bad in it

  2. I was just curious as to how long the batteries last in different ANR headsets, with or without Bluetooth. How much difference in battery life between brands?

I searched and found a few different ANR threads but didn't find one specifically asking about battery life.

Also what is the performance like once batteries are dead?

  3. If you want to use your iPhone as a backup download the ozrunways app and download the relevant maps for your area. The iPhone has a small screen but would still be better than nothing and ozrunways has lots of other neat handy features. Personally I think if you fly and have an iPhone it would be silly not to have it.

If you load the maps onto phone at home there is no need to take wifi thingy with you

  4. Definately go with the tail dragger first. When I learnt I was given that same advice (instructor owned the tail dragger and I was sceptical) and I could soon see the wisdom of it, you learn to use your rudder from day one. After getting my certificate I did my cross country in the nose wheel and was surprised at how quickly I became "rudder lazy".

  5. I use the full size iPad (mini's weren't out when I got mine) and the only hassle I have had as far as service goes is if you wish to look up an airfield if you haven't downloaded it previously then it won't do that without phone service. GPS works fine. So just be sure before you go I think it is into settings and download all parts that you "might" need. I am not sure wether the same applies to the charts as first thing I do is download all relevant charts for where I am and where I plan to go but would pay to be careful it would be a shame to be out of phone service and not have map picture.

  6. That would be the way I do it Phil but at this stage only have raa certificate would like to polish up my flying (maybe grinder needed for rough edges) get some hours up once I finish putting rivets in the hornet and then maybe look at getting ppl as well.

  7. G'day my name is sam (although I have been called plenty of other things)

I live in nsw and started to learn to fly early last year (in a good old j3 piper cub) something I have always wanted to do but never thought the better half would "endorse" but lo and behold on a long drive home from the inlaws when I mentioned it would be twice as quick in a plane she told me "why don't you go and get your licence then." So I didn't need telling twice.

I did my pilot certificate on the j3 then my nav training in an evektor sportstar and loved it all.

At the minute I am partway through building a Hornet with the crew at Aak. (Really enjoying that too.)

    Anyway that's me
