As facthunter says the only way to check if a rotax is running rich by looking at the plugs is to run the engine hard for quiet a while and then cut the mags and then pull the plugs and check them only problem is this then involves a glide back to the airstrip and towing it back to the hangar
This is because the rotax engine runs very rich at idle especially the front two cylinders
I dont believe after 80 hours the carbies are going to be worn enough to run richer than when new
The only thing that can really change is dirty airfilters

can you adjust the sensitivity in the settings my skyview did the same until I adjusted the sensitivity right down

Have been reading all the post and was wondering who I should give my proxy vote to ( as I cant get to the meeting ) I want pick someone who wants raa to sort out their problems and to be open and represent the needs of us any sugestions
-
Hi I cut a star picket into 3 and tapered the end 150mm down to a point on each one belt them in with a small hatchet ( also doubles as a canopy breaker ) they hold real well and are fairly easy to get back out but if they get stuck not too much of a loss

casa are there to help raa solve the problems casa dont want to shut down raa they just want them to follow the rules
ie dont fly LSA aeroplanes before a certificate of airworthiness is issued ( the issue which started all these problems ) dont fly your plane if it is overweight or unregistered
dont change props on 24 registered planes etc

I am saying the oposite that if the board gets kicked out casa will shut down raa
I am concerned that there will be no one to run raa

got my letter today it doesnt say anything about giving your proxy votes to middo just a form that allows you to give your proxy to anyone
and by the way
if the board gets kicked out as it seems that everyone wants to do who is going to run raa
getting sick and tired of all this crap I thought this forum was about flying and not attacking the board every 2nd post

Hi I will burp when hot next time I fly and then compare again when cold
-
asses ear is in the grampians google it for all the info
-
You may get a different reading after leaving the engine overnight Depending of the level of the oil tank compared with the engine Ie IF I burped the engine when hot and got a reading right on the full level and then let it sit overnight I will allways find the level down to about half but if I reburp the engine it will be back up to the full mark
I belive this is because the oil tank is fairly high and some of the oil runs back to the engine sump
ps and I never have had to top up the oil level between oil changes ( oil every 25 hours and filter every 50 )

three weeks from student licence to first solo seems unreal. How could someone learn to fly that quickly
First solo should be when they are ready not rushed to occur on a certain date

The frequencies published on charts are for operational purposes only. They are not a means of social contact. If you need to pass non-operational information to another pilot, use 123.45.

HI as I stated before just because it got through illegally before doesnt mean that it can continue that way. RAA has finally picked up this problem and there will be a way to fix it you will have to work with them to find a solution. Do you expect them to ignore the problem with the current problems with CASA And yes unfortunately the L2 inspection is worthless as it appears he has not checked the paper work properly to see if the prop fitted has been approved and as I said unfortunately you have inherited a problem but there will be a solution This is not a 100% RAA problem just a problem that has gone undetected since the prop was changed the first time without the correct procedures being followed

Sorry to hear of your problems transfering the rego to your name but just because it was ILLEGALY registered before doesnt mean it should be allowed to continue in that state now. Just because in the past RAA wasnt aware of the prop change doesnt make it their problem now. Were they told the prop had been changed. Even if they were I am sorry but the problem is yours
It is about time we in the RAA realised that we are given a lots of concessions in the aeroplane world. Speak to someone who is trying to register a GA type aeroplane and see what problems they encounter There is a saying that you cant fly until the paper work weighs the same as the aeroplane !!!!!
And as Metalman says some people seem to treat rules as something to be ignored if we choose to, and that is what got us into this problem in the first place Yes us not casa not RAA but us by not playing by the the rules how many people have altered 24 registered planes without approval how many people fly overweight planes or unregistered planes how many fly without a current BFR
COME ON EVERYONE START PLAYING BY THE RULES BEFORE CASA REALLY FLEXES ITS MUSCLES

hi have you checked the pitch is the same on all three blade and that there is no run out also something could be breaking down under load you could try setting the pitch a lot finer and see if it runs smoother under less load
-
yeah i reckon they are great but i am bit biased since we have one over 200 hours on it now and all going great hope to take it to bushley park flyin on the weekend

Lots of people only use avgas with no problems. The rotax site indicates that it is ok to use avgas you just have to change the oil and filter every 50 hours. I believe most people change oil more often anyway, I always use 98 premium at home and away i use avgas I change the filter every 50 hours and oil every 25 hours and have just changed to aeroshell plus 4

thanks techo's from the above .................. looks like the majority say you can log airswitch time - lift off to landing - for Rotax 912
that's good news ! - the finance ministries budget sheet looks healthier
the difference between tacho and airswitch over 1500 hours would easily amount to ..................... (guessing 150 hours)
For a rotax oil changes and time before overhaul you have to use tacho time from engine start to engine shut down
for airframe maintenance I believe it is lift off to landing

Just been advised by nearest motorcycle shop (Singleton) that Shell VSX4 is no longer available & they said to use AX7 which is its replacement.
I rang Flood's & they said DON'T do it. Use Aeroshell Sport Plus 4.
So I just found an easy way to get it. Skyfuel has an online ordering facility.

$171.85 + freight $20 for 12 x 1 litre bottles
Flood's had it also but freight was a killer (their words not mine)
