  1. Morning all, Archer Falls Airfield Fundraising newsletter 2013 has been published, it's a tiny bit big to upload here, though please log on to www.archerfalls.com.au and feel free to download it from there....(it is only about 2mb)...while you are there check out the awesome images of LED model planes night flying....many thanks to Jacko & crew, and Swado & crew for the spectacular night sky show!! or simply search google Archer Falls Airfield Fundraising Newsletter... thanks all those who supported the events, in particular aviators... Thanks x E
  2. Hey folks, if you are planning to call in to Archer Falls Airfield Fly In Drive In, we'd love to see you...here's some housekeeping: 1. If you would like to arrive early (Friday) we can handle early arrivals and find you a camp underwing or whichever you are aiming for.....self cater Friday night, though food starts in earnest 7am Saturday...through to Sunday sunset (though we may be able to keep the BBQ going until later if supplies hold out) 2. Flyin pilots - receive free entry and camp, only tickets for passengers and others to sort on arrival...camping family (or 2 adults and upto 6kids) two day entry + one night $50, add another $10 only for each extra night camping....singles $25 + $5 for each extra night... IF YOU ARE FLYING IN FOR THE DAY OR CAMPING PLEASE LET AIRFIELD PERSONNEL KNOW ON ARRIVAL - 3. Saturday night two options.... Gala dinner - spit roasted beef, lamb, pork, chicken accompanied by roast seasonal vegetables, and now also mixed salad platters, followed by a lovely dessert slice & cream, tea/coffee...lucky door prize, raffle, and a charity auction....guest speaker - worth hearing he's won 2 presidential awards from President Bush USA for his efforts in years gone by.... This one needs bookings please - limited tickets - $25pp OR Country campfire hearty beef/veg casserole + damper, with tea/coffee - bookings only if you are bringing the whole tribe - $10pp BOTH DINNERS FOLLOWED BY LIVE MUSIC - THE HI-BOYS BAND - rockabilly, countrybilly, rock'n'roll until midnight.... 4.CHARITY AUCTION - LIMITED TO A DOZEN ITEMS.....we've been presented some exceptional aviation art limited edition prints from internationally renowned artist David Marshall - the prints on offer are from originals in the RAAF heritage collection....thanks David, we hope to do justice to these....we've also been offered a couple of unique/unusual items such as a vintage Max Electra radio in immaculate condition, etc, so we've decided to auction these following dinner - proceeds to the fundraising efforts for RFDS and the community service groups working at the event... 5. We welcome all, and hope you enjoy Archer Falls Airfield...knowing we are really a 300 acre property that happens to have a main, and cross runway....so please don't expect the 'hilton' though we do hope you will be pleasantly surprised... while the facilities are basic, our hospitality is warm, the drinks cold, the food hot, and the 'club area' is always popular....by the way, suggestions have been coming to start a club, if you are interested please let us know....our philosophy is simple.....Archer Falls Airfield Aero Club to launch (officially, as it's always been unofficial) to provide opportunity for flyers to do what they do best, enjoy flying, eat, drink and enjoy great times, while we raise awareness and funds for charities that need our help....likely the only compulsory thing will be to visit at least once or twice a year for the social events(with the shortest meetings we can legally manage) ....with great food, drink and company....email us if this if of interest, [email protected] (as soon as we get through this event we'll be ready to get organised we hope) We are often asked to have events at home, and as long as folk can take us as we are, believe in flying for flying's sake, and like us believe charity and community is important we would like to continue doing what we do.... In the meantime, please consider calling in for the October event, even if just for a few hours, the more the merrier.... OH, ALMOST FORGOT....most of you would know the name Barry Tapsall from car racing...he wandered by last week and has now booked to come for this event, and we've been cheeky enough to ask him to help judge the show'n'shine!
  3. Hi Gandalph, he - Doug Field - will be at the Archer Falls Airfield Fly In Drive In October 5/6 - he founded the event with his father, Ron, back when he founded Wings of Life - now a registered aviation club of Griffith University (2010) to raise awareness and funds for RFDS, while providing inspiration to youth in aviation. Now with 70 members $30,000 has been raised for RFDS, with hopes to add significantly to that amount from this year's event. BTW, many thanks to all those who have written nice comments regards Doug's recent landing...
  4. Hi Ian, apologies for the delay in responding...been a little crazy and we've had issues with IT again....Thanks for the reply, yes, thought it might be though we are impressed with everything on your site and looking to one day enhance the website capability for Archer Falls Airfield, as now have plans to include auto donate to RFDS through it, and perhaps create some decent image galleries...Edith gets into this(writing for Sport Pilot she collects loads of images, with a lot of aircraft, and others about the place, and it would be good to have them online eventually) maybe you can recommend a website builder as that's not our thing...and the wordpress one we have serves a purpose but tends to be unreliable when you most need to update...like this week, so hope you don't mind we've put a little more event details on the forum entry. Thanks,
  5. oops forgot to let you all know....there's also a facebook page on the event (just last week for the younger ones) but thanks to young Michael Wright there's an album of more than 600 snaps from the 2012 event if you want a look....though bearing in mind it will be different again this year....this year a bush style fly in without the airshow....though Paul Bennet did put on a fantastic show, and don't be worried about the horses in some snaps...it was part of an Australian Light Horse demonstration (they'll likely be back for next year)....this year the aircraft, classic and unique cars and bikes are the feature attractions....that and live music from 11am Saturday and again on Sunday...plus an outside radio broadcast with 101.5fm airside Saturday during the day...so its all about atmosphere, fun and flying....

We look forward to seeing you, your families and friends....help Wings of Life help RFDS...and these organisations who are helping - St John Ambulance Kingaroy, Villeneuve Rural Fire Brigade, Woodford & Kilcoy Lions Clubs - BBQ, RFDS Auxiliary Bundaberg Branch & friends - coffee shop, Woodford Cubs - the random rolling raffle throughout the weekend(they are saving for Cuboree) the Woodford Scouts & Venturers (with some help from Caboolture) manning the gates and carparks, Aviation High Brisbane & CQU Aviation students helping airside with Wings of Life working on grounds and the bar...and that list doesn't count the displays coming along....help make this the biggest ever at Archer Falls Airfield, we've got some stunning countryside for flying, Somerset dam to our west and Glasshouse Mountains to the east...and Mount Archer as our backdrop...on final you'll see it ahead...
  7. Hi Dave, if you are ever down our way call in... we have a local flying mate who hails from the Isa, and shares his time between there and down our way, will let him know and you might catch up, he's a wealth of information and likely can give you some local advice
  8. Hi folks, wow the response to the event is growing...we better give an update, and let everyone know what has been added to the event... Aviation High School Brisbane has just come on board, with a group of students and staff coming along both days, and it seems their team is keen to help us airside, for which we are most appreciative. We've also now partners with Woodford, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers, their leaders and families, who will be looking after the entry gates and carpark, and you will see their display selling our raffle tickets for the weekend - thanks to these groups. Not only is it great to have their help on the gates - they will be 'earning' a reward for their help as they save for their 'Cuboree' - the annual Cub camp coming up, we hope everyone supports their groups. With 5 entry gates, and last year 1,000 visitors over the weekend they will be kept busy. We can also thank the Lions, now with both Woodford and Kilcoy clubs combining to keep the BBQs going, thanks Bundaberg RFDS Auxiliary who have a convoy arriving to look after the coffee shop, that's a huge commitment for which we are most thankful, and of course Ron Bishop, Senior Lecturer Aviation CQU Bundaberg who is organising a group of students to come down, the Australian Women's Pilot Association who are taking part also, and still more confirmations to come. They say many hands make light work, and we thank everyone who has offered to help, and look forward to everyone having a great time, and achieving the fundraising goal for RFDS. We've also made a commitment to donate funds to each service organisation from the weekend, so we hope you will all come along, this will help support all the groups and we can all have a great time. For those wanting to chill out and relax in the afternoons, Woongooroo Estate Winery has joined in with wine tastings both afternoons, and of course the licensed bar will open about 3pm for those who are staying on... Did we mention that while there is an entry ticket price to encourage pilots to join in and provide an aircraft display for our visitors, you each receive FREE entry for the pilot to the event and camping, with only passengers to require tickets. And please remember we have a Show'n'Shine for aircraft, classic and unique cars and bikes, with prizes in various categories... the prize list is growing with almost $1,000 in total value now...thanks to even more sponsors coming on board... So if you haven't already planned to come, please join us in creating an impressive line up of aircraft for all our visitors to enjoy, the young, the aviators in training, and the folk who have only dreamed of seeing aircraft up close. For unique displays Werner's DC3 converted 'airbus' is coming along, and it seems an original operational WWII Bren Gun Carrier all the way from Rockhampton thanks to Central QLD Light Horse. We'll keep you posted as more displays are confirmed, you are welcome to come along, though if you are bringing aircraft in a group perhaps drop us a line...we have set aside a few acres of aircraft parking/display along the cross strip, with easy access to the main runway, adjacent to the spectator viewing area, and with so many indicating they will be coming we are currently erecting a fence to separate aircraft from the general area. Marshall team will greet aircraft on landing and guide you to parking/camping. Please let them know on landing if you are planning to fly out same day so you can be guided to the day parking area, and we can set the site to suit all. If you are looking or want to give others information you can also check the event name on facebook, we've had to join the 21st century and put the information on it now (all our young folk use this it seems) Okay, that's enough to take in, better get back to site preparation....looking to be another beautiful day outside... See you soon, be sure to say hi...
  9. Hey TK58, October 5 & 6, the Saturday and Sunday....as it's a long weekend, if folk want to leave Monday with aircraft allowing them to enjoy a relaxing Sunday evening it won't be a problem... Hope to see you
  10. No need to apologise....Ron rules the roost....this is just invisible fingers doing his bidding....Ha Ha.... Great to hope for the band....love your philosophy... Did we let you know Defence Force Recruiting have confirmed coming along, as has CQU Bundaberg senior aviation lecturer Ron Bishop with a small group of students for this year, with view to bringing the entire aviation faculty next year....he's another fantastic mentor of youth like yourself...and has some really interesting tales of times in USA airforce, I understand he was awarded not one, but two presidential awards by George Bush, in defence aviation. So our goal to engage youth continues to grow...we have also issued invitation to Aviation High to consider partnering the event, so even though they may all send just a few this year we are working towards clearing the land over the creek to create space to add a youth camp for all training and education for next year's event..... If we can get this happening, build the creek bridge and get them all involved, then I guess we will also need look at adding workshops to the event.....mind you, if these groups all join in perhaps we can extend with the youth event leading to the open event....just ideas putting out there for now....since the date now takes place at the end of school and uni vacations it does rather lend itself though...so much for a quiet life and Ron's retirement... BTW, already have a father and son from Warwick booking to camp, and I know Zach intends to fly with you again this year..... For other forum members, please let us know if you are looking to prebook, especially groups and aircraft, so we can get a better idea of layout....saves a little on the day to have ideas on who is coming...but of course last minute deciders are still welcome...
  11. Thanks for the kinds words....but really everyone needs to know its folk like GoFly, Aero Flight and Pterodactyl who run flights all weekend cheaper than normal to make sure all new comers have a chance to discover the joy of flying that deserve accolades... We need thank the Lions Club, the Rural Fire Brigade, St Johns, RFDS auxiliaries and a whole heap of individuals who come and get things organised, and all our local businesses who help us....it is getting a little bigger.... Thanks to all those who are helping, and hoping the rest of you come along to enjoy their efforts.... by the way, for the young ones Defence Force Recruiting team say they are coming, and also Senior Aviation Lecturer Ron Bishop CQU with a group of Bundaberg's aspiring aviators.....he's another mentor to the young ones, so energetic he already has plans to bring a heap of students to next years event....camping bookings are coming which is great..... Again, thanks the kind words GoFly.....you don't take enough credit for your help....its people like you who give Edith and I the energy to burn the midnight oil...
  12. Hi Administrator.....we would be interested in a site, as our old site is temperamental....locks us out regularly and is limited in its information, so what's involved....
