You write poetry, Sixties ... The search was on for a DC-2 to take part in this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098812/ I recall a scene with them standing under the engine nacelle of one such when the discussion turned to "corrosion" ... whereby a comment was made that "y'o aint gonna get no rust behind a Wright"...
2. Just this once, bugger the prop ... here's my Walter Mitty "Chuck Yeager" disguise. http://www.bd-micro.com/NewsReleaseFLS_Microjet.pdf Oh, and having coped with just a little of Sunday's F1 event - I can't wait for the real racing season to start. MotoGP and Superbikes, in case you hadn't guessed.
3. I don't quite see the point, other than it's something of a gimmick and a bit of fun... And no, there's nothing wrong with having fun...:)
4. I dunno how you keep up with all this, Willy - but your efforts are genuinely appreciated, keeping others like myself in touch with the outside world... Just outside Mallala township to the north of Adelaide - we not infrequently go there in order to either spectate or act as volunteers at motor sport events at what used to be the RAAF establishment there - is a beautifully maintained war graves cemetery which ever so poignantly has graves in it of those who never made it past their training for WW2 ... they didn't even get a chance to fire a single shot in defence of our homeland. So many sacrifices - even before departing one's home soil.
5. Then there's the case where the aircraft is the one which should give way to the other traffic....

7. Omigod. Dire Straits and a Dakota. Should I be ashamed to admit that I misted up just a bit as it ended? WELL DONE! Postscript: I bet 60's just LOVES this too!
8. That is nothing short of absolutely fan-bleedingTAStic! Superb...!!
9. Yes, what a great experience for the lucky bugger ... Here's an image I downloaded years ago - apparently shot somewhere near Christmas Island (in the Pacific), and it looks to be just a tad chilly outside!

Great! And dont'ya just love the Flight Engineer's comment of "..it was like a flying simulator" , referring to the number of in-flight engine "events" he experienced in the type.
11. What a great Blog! Beautifully and so entertainingly written - and any Yank who can write "...The officers of the 93rd thought that L-4s were “vehicles,” with the accent on the first syllable..." is simply wonderful!
12. Hello taxpayers ... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-02-23/us-military-lays-f-35-fleet-low/4535724
13. Good one - and why is it I've only ever associated water-methanol injection with piston engines, excluding (up to now) turbo-props...
14. Wonderful technology: great viewing. All the US needs to sort out now is how to deal with suicide bombers and fundamentalists...
15. Makes one think that air shows might be more dangerous than combat! (I'm thinking of Ramstein here...)
16. Hi Willie ... yep, that's the one. Can't explain auto-play failure - IT stuff definitely not my strong suit. I'l toss this one in even if it's off-topic: found it on the web a couple of days ago and ... naturally you came to mind!
17. Good stuff here, and in amongst it there's a brief clip of a Convair 240 rear steps in use, too. That's be the same aircraft I flew in when I was still a freckle faced redhead in short pants. (doesn't bear thinking about...) http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/g2_g4hh8sKM&feature=g-vrec?autoplay=1
18. It's hardly recent, but during my time spent on Nauru - 1973 to 1975, there was a 3 aircraft formation fly past/around the island to celebrate the arrival of their newly acquired Boeing 727, flanked by the "junior partners", a pair of Fokker F100's, C2 RN-1 & C2 RN-2. I have no idea of the legality of the formation flight, but it was a very memorable sight indeed. And sorry .. I have no photo to post. BUGGER!
19. And a trivial question might be ... which mark Spitfire? Maybe the ones buried in Burma, perhaps:rolleyes:
20. Wasn't there something with the VC10 that it was one of the rare occasions where the cruise speed of the aircraft (relative to its compeitors, perhaps?) went up, yet the landing speed did not rise? Nice BIG cutaway here http://charlyecho.com/cutaways/?page=11 ... along with LOTS of other aviation cutaway stuff. Be warned - you could well spend a lot of time here...!
21. Hard to believe, but I actually had (and wore!) a sports coat which had lurex thread woven into it (blecch!!!) Might have been about the same time as the Presley purple socks... omigod.
22. Schoolkids riding pushbikes to school each day. These times there's so much traffic on the roads it's only those kids whose parents want to lose - forever - their chidren, who are seen on a bike.:p Crikey, Red .. you've certainly started something here!
