  1. interesting to watch the people leaving ,there's one person(would have to be a fella) who comes off the shute and just hangs around, not sure if he's a steward, or some dude with a camera phone,I'm leaning towards camera dude!

  2. Yeh I wondered about spatial disorientation with the trike pilot, it was a clear night with a full moon so he should've been able to keep an horizon , unless he got down low and got messed up. I know a fella that got caught out a while ago , tooling along quite happily in the setting sun and then desended into blackness when he was landing, I have it on good authority that he learned a good lesson and has never done it again!

  3. From most accounts they were looking at VH regoed stuff and I hadnt heard of any fines, really though a ramp check shouldn't be an issue if your doing it right , I had an issue with the Eurofox on takeoff and the Casa guys were the first there with some good advice when I got it back on the ground, can't say I felt intimidated at all, although I don't get to upset over coppers either!

  4. It is always a sad moment when someone get hurt or killed , when it's while persuing some sort of recriational pastime it seems a bit unfair , but, with aviation rarely does anyone go up there without training, depending on your choice you may do lots or less but we are all trained to be the Pilot In Command, that means we are solely responsible for all the desicions made BEFORE we leave the ground . I too saw the trike take off and thought " I hope they're just doing a circuit" , and yes there was plenty of time for a couple of laps , maybe the people on the ground that were closer to the pilots ( both in the AC were pilots) should have said something and probably did , but the final desicion rests with the PIC.

I believe there is a good safety culture in Oz , I've seen pilots get a 'word" when they're getting a bit loose with safety , I've seen Casa informed when things got out of hand with a restricted pilot doing long navs with pax, I've made desicions in convoy with other AC when I thought we were better on the ground , but I personally don't feel any responsibility for people who do stupid things and die . I happened to be chatting with a CASA guy when the call came through about the crash , he said that of the nearly twenty fatals he investigated all bar one was pilots doing stuff they shouldn't be doing , again Pilot In Command made a desicion to do something stupid !

  5. Well, we had an interesting Natfly , went up in a group with two kitfoxes and a gyro. One Kitfox lost a brake at yarrawonga so we ended getting into Temora about 1700. Had a top time meeting up with forum and facebookers and having a wander about, didn't get to any seminars though , was really hoping to get to the ozrunways but missed it. The trip home started off with a moment , I had a fuel issue on take off from 23 and had to swing around and get in on 36 , lesson learnt , don't turn off the boost pump on a Eurofox till your at altitude and in cruise , it gets a big drop in pressure which turns into a spluttering glider. On the way back to Melbourne our gyro pilot had an engine failure just north of echuca and ended up putting down in a paddock , no damage to the gyro or the pilot. We spent the night at mangalore and then had a bit of an adventure getting through the glenburn gap , we ended up on the ground at a tricky little strip at yeaburn waiting for a break in the weather to get into the Yarra valley.

All up a top weekend and great meet to meet up with every

  6. I'm in cahoots with a couple of kit foxes and a gyro I think, so I may not be able to unleash the Eurofox (95kias) as I reckon the foxes will get 75 less about 15 knots of breeze, not sure what a gyro does but I don't think theyre real quick

  7. I've tried this before and couldn't find anyone, I'm going to give Dex a visit, but not sure how to get everyone in one place at one time , I'll be camping next to a white Eurofox taildragger #7772 and hope to be partaking a couple of whiskeys late in the day(for medicinal purposes of course), so if your wandering past do stop!

  8. Interesting to reread the report, apart from the issues with the aircraft, the ASTB seems to be pretty sloppy to release a report without confirming some pretty basic info. I remember at the time there was all the carry on about a dodgy school and an unreg plane, turned out it was just a some public servant not investigating properly, still I wouldn't bother with a Sierra myself.

Maybe the builder of the ferris wheel could do some consulting work with Morgan's aircraft!

  9. Thanks guys for the quick replies.Yes, the velocity certainly looks impressive for a kit build... 4 seats and 200knot cruise. Theres not many others that fit that criteria. A lancair would be the beez neez but i dont have half a million.

I will probably get back into my training at Lilydale? Who's the team out there?

there's a couple of schools at the two airfields , both are good although I haven't tried to rent any of the pipers at YLIL, YCEM usually has something available in a trike gear AC, there's also a Cherokee six at YCEM if that interests you.

the aeroclub at YCEM is a pretty good bunch if your into that side of things as well

    cheers Met

  10. Hi Bren, welcome to the forum. I have an RV6 in the works as well as a resto on a kitfox type aircraft ,,,as well as a couple of components for an EXP Super Cub, happy to chat about building , I hang around Coldstream mostly and head over to Lilydale for some of the more interesting renters over there.

    cheers Met
