  7. seeing as how some of the usual suspects have got the the thread offfline...i hope the coming year is good for u!
  8. i have no grieif with 1 in 60's...i do them all the time as a check on the VOR etc.... my worry is that many RAA pilots (ussualy, but not always older) are not good with numbers and have heaps of trouble grasping the concept...many have no trouble grabbing a protractor and reading the course correction (quite accurately) required... there is nothing essential about 1 in 60's..it's just another way of getting the job done...and fairly inefficient as well.. it ain't part of the RAA syllabus and needs to be acepted as another thing u can use to correct tracking errors... if u cant work out where u are on the map...your buggered!....doesn't matter what u are using! PPS i posted this in the hope that there will some vigourous debate (unlike happens in 'another place'....)
  9. I can't find it in the syllabus, i don't believe it is very useful for RAA pilots, and, I reckon it will prevent many cross-country pilots from getting the endorsenent (should the local CFI require a demonstration of ability to apply it)....any thoughts??? PS There are "other" ways of correcting your heading which I reckon are easier to apply and understand.
  10. welcome Bill...i hope the conversation is robust...rather than sanitised.
  11. To fellow and fellowette TAA members that may have participated on another forum....and who may have had a falling out....change your passwords... 17. i missed this forum and posted on another.... no heat shield around the fuel lines i see. [T]here are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know. cficare, Today at 3:25 PMEditReport
  18. The ATSB has released its investigation report into the In-flight upset - Airbus A330-303, VH-QPA, 154 km west of Learmonth, WA, 7 October 2008 A Qantas Airbus A330-303 aircraft departed Singapore on a scheduled passenger transport service to Perth, WA. While the aircraft was in cruise at 37,000 ft, one of its three air data inertial reference units (ADIRUs) started outputting intermittent, incorrect values (spikes) on all flight parameters to other aircraft systems. Two minutes later, in response to spikes in angle of attack (AOA) data, the aircraft’s flight control primary computers (FCPCs) commanded the aircraft to pitch down. At least 110 of the 303 passengers and nine of the 12 crew members were injured; 12 of the occupants were seriously injured and another 39 received hospital medical treatment. The report is a timely reminder for passengers to fasten their seatbelts during flight. Final Report:http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2008/aair/ao-2008-070.aspx my emphasis.....it amases me that so many ignore the advice!
