  1. hey nomadpete, boleropilot here, 200 hour Drifter pilot - we will be in Tassie from 22/12/17 to 2/1/18 - we will be based in Hobart (IXL Jam Factory) would love to see some of the local aircraft/pilots and maybe swap a short flight for a nice bottle of red grape juice ? cheers BP
  2. just wondering why my avatar has vanished and my profile details have reset to zero......
  3. new member? no avatar? wtf ?
  4. having worked in a country town Stihl dealership, I can tell you that a lot of people do not realise the amount of 'repair items' kept in stock by such organisations - a lot of it has to do with 'very old' agricultural machinery that parts are simply not available for any more. and the last thing you want is your 50 year old tractor being unusable because of a $2 seal that has failed and Big Boy Tractors went out of business a decade ago... farmers are notorious (famous?) for keeping stuff running when it stops - our little shop had about a million seals and about the same number of O-rings - they could supply just about anything! most seals will have numbers on them to identify them - be aware though that there are differing types of seal designs and purposes. O-rings can all be measured with a micrometer and with charts stating diameter and thickness they can be usually supplied - same comment as per seals apply - basically you are just making sure the seals/O-rings are brake fluid capable another reason for my awareness of 'hard to get parts' is my ongoing restoration of Renault cars - seals and O-rings for my 1966 Renault R10 are currently not available over the counter (who wooda thunk?) let me know if you don't have any luck with a supplier for the parts you need, if you send me the numbers I'm happy to check with the pricks I used to work with to see if they can supply what you need cheers BP
  5. well ya know I might change me mind about going on with 0455 - been doing some 'flying' on the sim and it's making me think twice - what sort of world would it be without a Drifter key in me pocket..... all depends on how the nerve 'alterations' pan out - gotta say that it appears to be improving at an exponential rate hey if I can use a word that big I can't be washed out yet! will get down to the batcave this afternoon and play with the new 582 for a bit, that should get the juices flowing might even take a cheeky little glass of Pinot Noir with me to sweeten the moments... cheers for now BP
  6. hey thanks Frank (and to the other guys who have responded) - much appreciated, I'm feelin' a little fragile here...every positive word helps, believe me smell and taste sensations have improved slightly and most of what I have read tells me to expect that double vision is much the same and is yet to be investigated more thoroughly, vertigo depends on how quick I move around but that alone does not bode well for Drifter flying hell, it don't bode well for RC flying...I know, let's try that first!!! got some real good people lookin' after me and boy do they hate Doctor Google - I just use him for basics and get back to the team for treatment - that should work... as the lead in my favourite movie says - "life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get"
  7. and my avatar vanished at the same time - what just happened?
  8. just don't do what I did "well, you failed the test" "why, I'm still half way through the emergency landing" "you're landing downwind - you'll end up through the fence at the end of your chosen landing field" "but - the wind was from the West when we took off..10 minutes ago" "yes, and the wind is now from the East - look around and you'll see some indicators of that - what about hazards - can you see any?" "um - yes, the first one I saw is the big windmill on the fenceline..." "very good - and what do windmills tell you, David?" "um .................bugger!" "it's called a Sea Breeze, you goose - see you tomorrow, David"
