Thanks for the advice but to make the harness is a bit beyond my capabilities that’s why I’m chasing somebody to make me one thanks Keith.

May be easier and simpler to buy something like a TRIG Com Radio which you can put in monitor mode and then transmit on either freq when desired.

Hi folks, my ky97a has lost its screen. I have to ferry the aircraft to Bankstown in the next week or so to get new radio amongst other things. While a handheld will probably work I was wondering if anyone in the Sydney / Camden area had a serviceable ky97a lying round I could borrow ?

    Try this…

Phone Bankstown Tower, give them AN ETA and ask permission to come

    in NO RADIO.

If you have a Headset with Bluetooth capability you could phone the Tower at one of the reporting points and they will talk you in.

To confirm this,I just phoned the tower and they said no prob!

PM me with your phone number if you want further advice and help

Thanks for info.  What is the available cooking or refrigerator in common room like for preping meals we have a family in our group and they were asking me today if I know what's available.

Uni of Wisconsin Oshkosh has all that info.

Not sure about J230s but in my Savannah I have taken the suction mount and put velcro on it, then put velcro on some of the cockpit tubing at the top left side, then once attached by velcro I have put two zip ties around as well. This arrangement keeps the whole thing securely in place (I also had the suction mount fall off the lexan).

It seems to work so far, and I can't really see any way it can fall off now. Where it is placed allows the required clear view upwards and forwards.

When the weather improves (haha) I will be going out to the airfield and will take a picture or two.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Mine works fine mounted with good quality Velcro in the space above the top of the window in my J170.

The Antenna has no problems receiving GPS signals in that position as the composite structure does not block them.

It’s out of the way and solves the suction cup issue.

Just have to remember to turn it off!

I have a throttle lock fitted and both doors secured with a lock.

I seem to recall a law that came in years ago that required all aircraft parked outside had to be disabled by a lock. Piper Warriors have a unique throttle lock arrangement.

Jabirus have a hole in the throttle line through which a padlock can be installed.

People are allowed to have their own opinion. We still have silly people doing mad things on aeroplanes. It's not like the old days of having lots of  people up  the front. More's the pity.   Nev

I accept that Airline Crews need a high level of Security.

My issue is the private pilot who lands and just wants to go into town to support the community!

Why should they have to pay hundreds of dollars every 2 years for a Card they are never asked to show!

Surely a Pilots licence woukd suffice?

Not at all. I am totally impartial and neutral on the subject. If an aviator want to use the high security facilities then it requires the stipulated correlate high security Category C ID clearance

I cannot believe what I have just read!

I will compose a reply when my rage has dissipated!!

I was under the impression that anyone airside of the security perimeter fence HAD to have an ASIC card, no exceptions.

You mean to say, a planeload of armed-to-the-teeth Islamic terrorists could fly in and land, and shoot up and take over an airport, without all of them being fully compliant with ASIC cards?? :classic_rolleyes:

Nahh, couldn't possibly happen, that's too far fetched. Like something out of that fictitious "Entebbe" film!

    Your first paragraph is correct

If you land and don't cross the fence, refuel, check the oil, clean the wind screen, you won't get challenged at all. If you cross the fence you won't get challenged. It's when you try to get back to the plane you might get challenged. That's how I understand it. Some folks think you cannot land without an ASIC, which is bollocks.

Well a friend of mine landed at a Security Airport a couple of years ago, and before he opened the door to get out and refuel, he was accosted for his ASIC!

He had it in his bag and was berated for not wearing it!

  10. Consider this scenario…

You land at a Security Controlled Airport.

You shut down and are about to head into Town, when a person strolls over and demands to see your ASIC.

You say, Sir (or Madam) I demand to see the paperwork giving you the authority to see my ASIC!

After the stunned look disappears from the apparent Officials face you say….

SIR, you are upsetting and harrassing an Aircraft Captain, and I demand to exit the Airport without further interrogation.

Silly scenario I know, however we shouldnt have to go through this possibility when landing at an Airport and simply wanting to go into Town and support the local economy!

Not sure what he is getting at - I fly out of The Oaks.

You are correct regarding the charts, circuit height  and the minimum overfly altitude BUT it is not uncommon to have aircraft overly (particularly those inbound to Camden) below this altitude.

As I see it, Camden Tower will instruct (amongst other things) the inbound aircraft to maintain heading and altitude not below 1800ft  - way too many pilots, anticipate this instruction and are already on decent to 1800ft thus entering The Oaks "airspace".

Adding to this, is the likelihood that the Camden in bound aircraft is on Tower frequency 120.1 & Sydney Centre area frequency 124.55 not on /  monitoring / overflying call The Oaks 126.7

It was more the comment about TRAINEES INSTRUCTED  TO KEEP HEADS DOWN and DONT GO ABOVE CCT ALT that stirred me up!

Same thing happens at the Oaks.

Landing ' Camden ' aircraft over fly the Oaks runway.

Trainees are told to keep their heads down & never go hight than the circuit hight .

    spacesailor

    Sorry thats rubbish!

Take a look at the VFR Charts for the notation that describes the procedure for overfly not below 2500ft.

CCT Alt at the Oaks is 1900ft.

Where did this info come from??

  13. Hi all

I recently noticed a low CHT reading on No 1 Cyl in cruise.

Engine is a Gen 3 2200 in my Jabiru J170D.

The temps usually sit around 140deg on all Cyl but the last few flights No 1 Cyl is bouncing around between 95 and 105deg.

I have checked the wire connection to the cylinder which looks intact, but haven’t gone any further at present.

I have also been advised to put the probe into boiling water and check the gauge reading but haven’t had the chance yet.

At this stage I am assuming maybe a broken or chafed wire between the gauge and the Cyl probe. The instrument is the MGL grey Bar type EGT/CHT display.

Just asking if anybody else had this issue and the resolution.

red just to clarify, there is no option for users to delete a Post.

There USED to be a time limit with an option, but not any more.

    Franco.

Yes we used to be able to delete ourselves.

    red750 why the change?
